Periodontal disease occurs when the tissues that surround teeth become infected and inflamed. Bacterial plaque build-up on the teeth causes inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) if not removed. Over time, infection and inflammation spread deeper into the tooth sockets, destroying the bone around the tooth roots – meaning teeth may need to be extracted (if they haven’t already fallen out!).

The good news is that plaque can be removed with daily dental home care, and gingivitis can be reversed if caught early. Speak to us about the best dental care regime for your pet to help keep their teeth clean and healthy!

Before I left Louie’s appointment he thought it was important to share with me his puppy blanket. He was very serious about me being trustworthy enough to behold its beauty (what’s left of it anyway! 😂)! This boy has such human eyes and expressions, I just love him 💕

🐾 Low-cost neutering scheme 🐾

We’ve teamed up with University of Glasgow The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and Inglis Vets to offer a low-cost neutering programme for eligible cat and dog owners. The procedure will be carried out by final-year veterinary medicine students with supervision from a fully qualified vet.

We offer a limited number of neutering appointments for cats and dogs each week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at our veterinary clinics:

💭 Who is eligible?

For those in Glasgow, the scheme is open to those living in the G1-G82 postcodes of Glasgow and for those in Paisley in the PA1-PA8 postcode area.

For those in Fife, the scheme is open to those living in KY1-5 and KY11-12 postcodes.

Dogs who have originated from or spent time in countries outside of the UK are not currently eligible due to the risk of brucellosis.

For Glasgow:

If you are eligible for our low-cost neutering scheme, you can apply by calling 0141 530 3741 and selecting option 3 between 10am and 3pm from Monday to Friday.

For Fife:

If you are eligible for our low-cost neutering scheme in Fife, you can apply by calling 01383 510999 between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

𝙅𝙊𝙄𝙉𝙏 𝙎𝙐𝙋𝙋𝙇𝙀𝙈𝙀𝙉𝙏𝙎 - What are they and should we use them?

Joint supplements contain two main ingredients 𝗚𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲 and 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻. These are two 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 of cartilage. Glucosamine regulates the synthesis of collagen in cartilage formation and may help reduce inflammation. Chondroitin inhibits the destructive enzymes that break down cartilage.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺?

𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵- If you look at some puppy and kitten food, it often contains these supplements as added ingredients or lists sources of these as ingredients (hydrolysed Crustaceans and Cartilage). This usually has enough of these key ingredients to build healthy joints. However, once on adult food this ingredient is often left out.

𝗢𝗹𝗱 𝗔𝗴𝗲- Once our pets reach 7 years old they are considered senior. Some larger breeds of dogs or animals with shorter lifespans this is sooner. To maintain joints we should consider starting supplements again at this stage as a minimum.

𝗣𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀- Joint supplements can help slow progression of arthritis and should be given to these pets alongside prescribed treatment.

Joint supplements are considered safe to give, so can be supplemented throughout adult life.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝗜 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁?

Due to demand I have extended my service area, some areas will incur a £3 or £5 fee due to distance and ease of access.

Some places like Airdrie are now without a service fee!!

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺?

Probiotics are the “𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱” 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 in the gut that keep the intestines healthy. They 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 in the intestines and 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. They 𝗶𝗻𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁 growth of 𝗯𝗮𝗱 bacteria in the gut. Without them conditions like irritable bowel, leaky gut and even skin disease can develop.

Probiotics should be used;
• Following a bout of diarrhoea, for at least ten days.
• Alongside antibiotics and for a couple weeks after.
• Where disturbance in gut health is suspected.

Probiotics can be used to improve symptoms of;
• Skin disease.
• Irritable bowel disease.
• Urinary tract infections.

Which product do I choose?
• Pick a product with as 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 as you can find. (i.e Bacillus coagulans, Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus acidophilus etc).
• If your pet has 𝘼𝙇𝙇𝙀𝙍𝙂𝙄𝙀𝙎 or you suspect they have, remember some products contain animal proteins for flavour.
• Chose a form that’s 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘆 to administer; 𝙋𝘼𝙎𝙏𝙀, 𝙋𝙊𝙒𝘿𝙀𝙍 𝙊𝙍 𝘾𝘼𝙋𝙎𝙐𝙇𝙀.

Another busy day over. The equipment used has been scrubbed, through the ultrasonic cleaner, soaked in a final cleaner, rinsed and now drying. Ready for another day.
