Pets Foundation The Pets Foundation, registered as the Pets at Home Foundation charity numbers 1104152 & SC052589.

We passionately believe that every pet deserves a loving forever home. Over the years, we are proud to have worked alongside rescue, and rehoming organisations across the country who strive to help pets in need find their forever loving homes. In 2021, we broadened our objectives, allowing us to support charities that work alongside pets and the people who love them. We will strive to work alongsi

de like-minded partners to help those people who benefit either through the addition of a pet or through time spent with them.

We’ve received a super cute thank you video from Canine Partners for the £50,000 we awarded them towards their Financial Assistance Fund 🥰

Thanks to the grant, they’ve been able to help 149 partners and their dogs with ongoing medical costs or emergency veterinary treatment which has ensured that their life-changing canine stayed healthy and happy 👏

We wonder how many takes this took 😉

We’re supporting charities that are helping people through pets, like BRAVEHOUND!

In addition to being a community partner with the Dunfermline Pets UK store, we awarded the charity £95,000, spread over two years, towards its BRAVEHOUND Companions Project supporting veterans and their companion dogs, including delivering training and supporting with pet food and vet transportation.

Located in central Scotland, it supports military veterans by providing companion and assistance dogs and supporting veterans’ own dogs. The veterans supported have PTSD, depression or anxiety as a result of their service. The charity aims to reduce isolation, loneliness, and the risk of self-harm.

We’re thrilled to support life-changing charities like BRAVEHOUND and veterans like Michael through our grant programme 💚

On Remembrance Sunday, we’re sharing an update from Hounds for Heroes. This incredible charity, supported by a small army of volunteers, helps members of the HM Armed Forces and Emergency Services should they become injured, disabled, or ill during their working careers or as veterans.

In 2023, we awarded the charity a £28,500 grant towards the lifetime costs of a specially trained assistance dog. The funds were allocated to Jollie and Emma.

Emma said: “Since leaving the Navy, I have moved back to the Highlands of Scotland, where most of my family live. I have a Hounds for Heroes assistance dog called Jollie. She’s a five-year-old red fox lab.

I have lived with my illness for a number of years, but since having my dog Jollie, life has felt much more enjoyable. Jollie gives me purpose; she also gives me focus when I hear triggering noises.

Taking care of Jollie gives me a daily purpose, something that I have struggled with since leaving my very demanding job in the military. She is also great company and gives me a reason to get out and about. I think my family feels much more content knowing that I have a companion to prevent me from feeling isolated. They also feel comfort in knowing that I have Jollie for support.

I would urge veterans who are struggling with disabilities to reach out and put an application in for Hounds for Heroes. I understand that you may feel that you're "not worthy" or there are veterans who are "worse off" than you are - but please, just put the application in and let the Hounds for Heroes team decide who needs an assistance dog. Just don't hold off because you worry that you're not a worthy applicant.”

It’s lovely to hear that Jollie positively impacts Emma and her family 💚

We're proud to be supporting veterans through our grants 💚

Earlier this year, we awarded VETERANS WITH DOGS £19,200 towards the expansion of its Partner Animal Life Skills (PALS) Programme, which is designed to train dogs to assist veterans with a variety of needs, offering not just companionship but also a sense of autonomy and emotional support.

James, a 35-year-old Army Veteran, struggled with severe PTSD and anxiety after returning from his third tour in Afghanistan. Everyday tasks became overwhelming, and he found himself increasingly isolated from friends and family.

Following application and assessment for the programme, he was matched with Buddy, a two-year-old Labrador specially trained to support Veterans with PTSD.

Today, James and Buddy are inseparable. James has been able to reconnect with his community, start volunteering, and even speak at local schools about mental health awareness.

James says, beamingly: "Buddy has given me my life back. I never thought I'd feel this hopeful about the future again. Veterans with Dogs and the PALS Programme have truly saved my life."

It’s smiles all around thanks to our recent giant cheque surprise at the Pets UK Gateshead store 🙌

Dogs First rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes dogs primarily in Cramlington and surrounding areas in the Northeast. It also has smaller rehoming bases in Durham and the West of Scotland.

The funds from the £25,000 grant will be used towards the purchase of a much-needed van to help doggos in their care like sweet Zack, who came to the rescue at 14 weeks old after his owner’s death 😢

They believe Zack is a Collie x Saluki. Zack has good vision; sadly, he is totally deaf due to the faulting Merle gene.

While in the rescue’s care, his fosterer started to teach Zack hand signals and hoped to find him a home where they could continue this training.

We’re delighted to share that Zack has now found a new home with his forever family. Zack’s new pawrent knows BSL and has started to train Zack to learn sign language 🥰

As Bonfire Night approaches, it's important to look after our furry friends.

Research from Pets UK has found that 60% of UK pet owners have observed increased anxiety in their pets around fireworks, and 29% of owners say events with fireworks are stressful.

Common signs of anxiety can include pacing and panting in dogs, hiding and hissing in cats and stamping or a change of appetite in rabbits.

Here are a few tips to help keep your pet calm and safe 💚

Our Special Friends, based in Suffolk, helps people continue to benefit from animal companionship by providing physical and emotional support during illness, bereavement or other crises and help with animal-assisted therapy, dog walking and helping with veterinarian costs.

We’re delighted to share we gave the charity a £15,000 grant towards their Animal Welfare Support Fund.

Bin Johnston, Founder, CEO and Lead Animal Companionship Practitioner at Our Special Friends said “Funding from the Pets Foundation has been vital for Our Special Friends to ensure dogs and cats get the veterinary treatment and other care they need when their owners are in financial difficulty. There is no PDSA or RSPCA hospital in our area so when their pets are critically ill or injured, people are faced with the dilemma of paying a veterinary bill they cannot afford or having their pet euthanised. The Pets Foundation’s grant to our Animal Welfare Support Fund means Our Special Friends can make financial contributions towards veterinary fees in these cases. It also allows us to pay towards other essential animal care costs, such as emergency boarding, grooming or paid-for dog walkers when we do not have volunteer availability. Ultimately, this funding means that beloved pets receive the care and attention they need at critical times to live long, full, healthy lives.”

The charity anticipates that over the year of the grant, the funding from the grant will help approximately 120 people and 85 pets 🙌

On , we want to celebrate these fabulous felines!

Did you know that around half of the cats at Cats Protection are black or black and white? While they're not as overlooked as they used to be, they still wait longer to find their forever home than other, brighter colours.

Black cats are just as loving as any other feline friend!

Just look at Tinsel, a beautiful black cat who found her happily ever after thanks to Cats Protection. After receiving the care she needed, she's now thriving in her new home.

The RSPCA Isle of Wight, an independent centre, was thrilled when we gave them the news that they’ve been awarded a grant of £18,000 towards vet bills and utility costs!

The funds are making a difference to the pets in their care, like Kovu 🥰 while they wait for their forever home.

This sweet pup came to them through no fault of his own, and it was discovered that he had mild hip dysplasia and would require physiotherapy to build up muscle mass on his back legs as he had little to no muscle.

Once the team was able to get Kovu on the road to recovery through physio, his soon-to-be parents from the mainland read about his plight and wanted to meet him straight away.

The team at the centre said, “In the first few meetings Kovu was so nervous but his lovely new pawrents were patient and showed Kovu the love he deserved. It wasn’t long before Kovu was comfortable to travel with his new family to his new home! We’ve recently received an update on how Kovu is settling in – it’s amazing to see how much he has grown in confidence. He loves cuddling on the sofa, going to the beach, he has so many new friends he runs around with and is attending hydrotherapy. It's thanks to grants from the likes of Pets Foundation that we are able to carry out extensive medical assessments to make sure we are doing the best we can for every animal in our care, so they too can have a wonderful fresh start at a happy and healthy life, just like Kovu!”

On the final day of our celebrations with the RSPCA (England & Wales) on their 200th anniversary, all that remains is for us to say a huge thank you to every customer, colleague and supplier who has helped to support the partnership between the RSPCA, Pets UK and the Foundation.

Because of your donations, we’ve been able to launch vital projects to improve animal welfare and support countless pets and people in need 💚

We understand how important pets are to our mental wellbeing, and believe that pets should stay in loving homes where they belong.

That’s why we’ve committed over £160,000 to the RSPCA (England & Wales)’s Food Bank Partnership in the North of England (2022-23), ensuring pet provisions are available to those in local communities who need it the most and help keep pets and people together. The success of this project has now led it to expand nationally and it continues to grow.

Daisy and her owner are one of many loving duos supported by the partnership: Daisy's owner told us - "l rescued Daisy around 1 year ago. When I first got her she didn’t know how to walk properly, but now she loves our long walks and going for a swim. I’ve been using the food bank every week and it’s made such a difference. After paying for gas and electricity there’s nothing left - there’s just not enough money. Being able to pick up food, toys and get help from the vet has been a massive help. I’m now able to sleep at night. I could never give up Daisy, she’s like one of my children, she means everything to me."
