Gridlock

We are at bursting point, with a long long waiting list, and our recent babies being ready for their forever homes but not one firm offer to adopt any of them…

It is unsustainable going forward as without adoptions there are no donations coming in, and no space to take piggies who need us.

If you are considering adopting please please fill in our form and send photos of your setup or ask our advice. Recently we have had a few applications that have then just gone and bought pigs from pet shops rather than wait for our babies to be old enough!

We can’t continue to help guinea pigs without good homes being offered.

**Puppy/Dog Training** Diss & Harleston Dog Training Club is a CLUB not a business. Our friendly instructors have a wealth of knowledge (one is a top obedience judge in the country!) about how to help you teach your puppy/dog to listen to what you say, come when you call and be obedient.
Our club members are able to show you how to achieve goals by showing examples with their own dogs - many people running dog training businesses are unable to do this!
Join our Kennel Club registered club and keep your puppy/dog happy and stimulated.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year! 🎆

It was my first full day back at work today since mid Dec and wowee what a brilliant one it has been. ❤️
I think I’ve got back to everyone who got in touch over the holidays and I now look like Opal (one of our spaniels) and need a lie down 😆

The van will be back on the road in Feb so will be arranging new area days for this year as soon as it’s up and running again🥳 🚐

I’m still working from my base nr Halesworth as always, Mon-Sat, so just book online if you’d like an appointment.

💜 2024 - Thoughts and Plans 💜

2023 was a difficult year for many rescues, ourselves included. We have never had so many surrender requests, or so few decent offers of homes. We have also had more dumped guinea pigs than we have ever experienced in 15 plus years of rescuing. While we are thankful these little souls are now safe with us it is a worrying trend.

Our decision in Autumn to focus on being a refuge and retirement home for older Guinea pigs didn’t really materialise due to the gods laughing at the foolhardy plans of us mere mortals. The minute we decided to focus on oldies, we had nothing but emergency babies and pregnant sows, which are now using all of our available spaces while they sit out their pregnancy watch (10 weeks) and any babies are old enough to move to new homes (another 8 weeks). Meanwhile we are receiving multiple surrender requests daily, some of which are heartbreaking and urgent. With another 3 emergency dumped piggies over Christmas, we really are at capacity, along with having 5 pregnant sows ready to pop.

So, what do we need for 2024? Thanks to recent donations we have plenty of food and hay, plus some generous PayPal donations to help towards our re-roofing and storage shed. What we really need is good offers of forever homes for our few adoptable pigs, and the capacity to help those on our very long waiting list.

I would love our imminent babies to have homes waiting for when they are old enough, but all too often people won’t wait and go to a pet shop instead. Wouldn’t it be amazing if all of these babies were reserved to forever homes from birth? There’s nothing worse than babies growing old in rescue and someone missing out on their early days.

We also need a network of trusted people we can rely on if needed for transport in emergencies, or if we have a need to catch dumped pigs again.

We don’t currently rely on foster homes for the simple reason that we are quite remote and I’d rather have the piggies here under one roof. We have previously appealed for local fosters when needed, and might consider this again in the future.

I am considering converting the other half of the shed to be overflow accommodation when needed, but this of course comes with additional costs to not just build but to heat / air condition throughout the year. I will do the sums.

Everyone can help by sharing our adoption posts and spreading the word that there are guinea pigs in rescue needing homes. Some people still don’t think of adoption as an option for small animals. Let’s make sure we keep spreading the word.

Saw this post so thought we must share:-
Morning everyone.

We are desperately trying to find a little Romanian rescue dog who has gone missing from our care yesterday. He has been seen around the golf course/common area, also around Earsham, around the fields but is also crossing roads. This dog is traumatised and in flight mode, so really important not to pursue or chase him. If anyone sees him, please could you call 07774368378 immediately. We have been up all night searching and again this morning as we are desperate to get him back safely.   he is a little white dog with a black patch over one eye and still has his lead on, so you can't miss him if you see him. Please spread the word and pass these details on if you can. Thank you so much.
