Just a quick post to say I’m in need of a longer break than I first thought. I lost my cat Merlin a couple of weeks ago and I lost both of my bunnies on Monday.

I’m not In the right headspace to do any sort of animal rescue at the moment especially when all I seem to deal with in rescue is sadness and death.

Thanks for understanding. I’m more than happy to provide other rescuers details should you need them.

🚨🚨 IMPORTANT NOTICE PLEASE READ 🚨🚨

Collars. The majority of cat owners would like their cat to have a collar, but do you understand the risks? Have you researched which collars are SAFE for your cat?

These ones in the pictures ARE NOT SAFE OR SUITABLE.

I’m sure every single person that works in rescue will have a story to tell about a cat they’ve picked up with a collar injury, and that’s because the collars that are being used are AWFUL.

These types of collars can cause fatal strangulation, if the collar is caught on a tree/fence/or even a household item such as a curtain rail, the cat has absolutely no way to free itself! Unfortunately we’ve had a very recent experience of this in harlow and the cat had to be cut down from a tree after losing his life.

These collars can also cause severe limb and mouth injuries, I’ve seen it myself. The cat tries to get the collar off with its arm and the arm then gets caught in the collar itself, unable to pull it back out. The cat had to have its front leg amputated after being trapped months after its leg got trapped into the collar. I have also picked up others with this injury but thankfully they was caught a lot sooner but the collars were very deeply embedded into their skin and they had to have months of treatment.
As for the mouth injuries, the collar can often get caught on their bottom teeth and stuck into their mouth, i don’t feel like that one needs explaining but this obviously will stop the cat from being able to close its mouth therefor unable to eat/drink!!

IF you want your cat to have a collar (I don’t think any of them are suitable in my opinion) you MUST get a SAFETY CLIP collar. although I have known these to fail too!!
They come under the category;

Breakaway collar
Safety clip collar
Quick release collar

Now please remember these don’t always work either. But these are better than the buckle cat collars. FLEA COLLARS ARE ALSO THE SAME AS BUCKLED CAT COLLARS!

The best alternative to using a collar is to MICROCHIP your cat! It can be as cheap as £10!

If you are using a flea collar, stop!! Your cat only needs one flea treatment a month or one every 3 months (depending on the brand you are using, best to get it from the vets as the flea treatment over the counter is known to cause seizures and ineffective to fleas)

Just a quick notice to say I’m taking a short break. I’ll be back next week.

We lost Merlin today, we found out he had cancer last week and he deteriorated very quickly. Rest peacefully my boy 🤍 just need time to grieve.

I think by now we are all aware that we live among disgusting humans.. but to shoot a living creature is beyond disgusting.

I would like to add that this was in January. We’ve been keeping an eye on her and she’s doing well. I did set a trap but this fox is very clever. Luckily she hasn’t developed an infection. She is being support fed and we will intervene if necessary, we have been getting brilliant advise from south Essex wildlife Hospital and are hopeful she will make a full recovery 🙂

I was going to put up a big post explaining why dogs should be kept on a lead, or why you should report it if you see a dog chasing/attacking a deer.. but I just don’t have the energy.

This boy was spotted being attacked last weekend, and only today has someone contacted me to go and pick him up. I have never seen a deer so emaciated and dehydrated in my life. A whole week he’s been sat there and not one person thought to report this. Even when I was carrying him back to my car and people could CLEARLY see I was struggling (I’m not very strong and he was very heavy in the carrier) a man let his huge Dalmatian come bounding over, didn’t call him back ONCE.

I’m sorry nobody asked for help sooner, if ONE person had made a phone call when he was spotted being attacked last week or whoever would have seen him during this week, he wouldn’t have been suffering this long. Rest in peace handsome

Huge thank you to Shantel from harold hill deer aid for coming out last night to put this deer out of her suffering.
The deer was tucked right into a bush next to a tree.
Pieces of the car that hit her were still in the road, but the driver still left her alone suffering..

Also huge thank you to the wonderful man that stopped and alerted us to her whereabouts and put the towel over her head to calm her down.

SAD POST 😞

Is anyone missing a beautiful male ginger cat? Found in the Rundells/ the Riddings (harlow). I believe he is neutered but NOT MICROCHIPPED 😢 he is huge. I do have photos of his face but I won’t share them.
Now resting at kew vets 💔
Someone buried him yesterday but he has kindly met me this afternoon to retrieve him.

Did you get a stray cat neutered? Could this be him?

POPPY 🖤

Poppy was booked in for euthanasia at 5pm today. I spent HOURS yesterday and this morning trying to find her a secure rescue space to stop her being PTS. I didn’t sleep the whole night as I was so stressed and desperately trying to come up with a solution. Unfortunately I don’t have kennels and my house is definitely not big enough to bring any new dogs in and keep them separate from my grumpy dogs!

Please don’t comment on her circumstances regarding PTS, all that matters is that her life is now saved and today is the start of a bright future. 116 miles total to make sure she is safe. Good luck poppy I can’t wait for updates!! 🥰🖤

🥺 foxes really are the most beautiful creatures.

Massive thank you to Tracey lord for helping me today, couldn’t have done it without you. Luckily we was able to secure her in an area and scruff her to get her safely in the carrier. She was very disoriented and had laboured breathing. Now safely at south Essex wildlife hospital 🧡

I can’t believe he is still looking for a home! Lou has never met a dog so for this reason we’ve decided a home without dogs is best. He can live with cats as long as the right introductions are done!

Hi everyone.

I took a short break, the death and neglect I’ve seen recently really took a toll on my mental health. I’m still struggling with the things I’ve seen and dealt with, there is still upsetting situations going on behind the scenes which I cannot post. If only people looked after their pets!

BUT.. I Started the morning off with two girls in for spay. We are praying they aren’t already pregnant, as one of the girls has had 3 Tom cats on her already.

Unfortunately I’ve just attended another deceased dog that’s been hit by a car. Owners have been located. I won’t say anything other than the fact that you shouldn’t have dogs if you’re just going to leave them to live outside unprotected. I am sick and tired of people not looking after their pets 😔😔😔😔

Had a call out for an injured fox. Unfortunately she was tucked very far into a bush next to a main road. Shantel from harold hill deer aid came to the rescue with her catch pole, although the catch pole was actually not needed, Shantel got straight into the bush and scruffed her whilst myself and two members of the public made sure she didn’t run back out into the road and then I secured the carrier to make sure she was safely contained.

Unfortunately she didn’t make it.
We don’t know how long she was in this bush for, someone walking their dog luckily went past and the dog alerted the owner to the fox. Meaning her suffering wasn’t prolonged any longer than necessary.

Rest in peace beautiful 💔🧡

Warning distressing images!!

Muntjac rescue this morning. She had gotten herself stuck in a fence and ran into a wooden post at full speed. She has split her nose/mouth open and couldn’t walk. Upon examination at the wildlife hospital she may have been involved in an RTA aswell.

ONYX 🖤

I’ve posted him before but I can’t remember if I did a full update. Onyx was posted on harlow lost & found pets last June and I went straight over and trapped him. He was completely feral and had one of the worst neck injuries I’ve seen on a cat. We still have absolutely no idea what caused this and the fur will never grow back.

The first 3 photos are from June and the rest are the last couple of months. He’s the most loving cat and he has really imprinted himself on me he follows me everywhere and if he can’t see me he meows and searches until he can find me!

Safe to say he’s another foster fail. (I say it’s a foster success 🤣)

I was in facebook jail for a little while so couldn’t post anything! Still been busy though!

2 cats unfortunately involved in an RTA picked up, unfortunately neither survived. one returned to owner.

The other is a black and white female, no microchip and has had kittens before (not currently feeding) found on ongar road near imperials Chelmsford. Resting at forest vets in Epping if anyone thinks she could be theirs.

3 cats trapped at my colony and safe ❤️

1 ex stray cat I trapped has been neutered and chipped 😊

Spud wishes you all a happy new year 🥰 My own rescue cat Potato has taken him under her wing and if you saw them you’d think they are mother and son!
Here they are cuddled up to my crochet potato’s that Gemma made me 😁

Let’s all hope 2023 is a better year for animals. This year has been one of the toughest. I couldn’t do it without all the support so thank you all.
