Please report cruelty and injured animals to the national helpline on 0300 1234 999. Since 1824 the RSPCA has worked tirelessly to promote kindness and prevent cruelty to animals. To report a mistreated, neglected, injured or distressed animal call 0300 1234 999 or report online at rspca.org.uk. The branch cannot help with these cases; they need to be handled by the national RSPCA's Inspectors. Fo

The Stort Valley Branch is run as a separate registered charity & branch of the RSPCA and relies on public donations to provide animal welfare support in the local area. If you would like to donate, or to volunteer to help us, please get in touch by email or phone! Our subsidised veterinary service for pets at our Harlow clinic is available to those on 'means tested' benefits. A consultation fee is charged at each visit. Please email or call our friendly team if you need more details or aren't sure whether you're eligible. Injured wildlife is treated free of charge. Normal hours: Monday to Thursday, 10:00am-3:30pm. Please call or email to check hours for a particular day, as we sometimes need to vary them. Our branch area extends from Saffron Walden to Harlow and Broxbourne including and the villages surrounding this corridor. As some neighbouring RSPCA branches don't offer a clinic service, we are also willing to see clients from nearby towns in those areas. There are RSPCA clinics in Chelmsford and Colchester, covering most of Essex. We are also an advice centre and can offer advice on the care of animals, details of local shelters and rescue centres, etc. If you're looking for a bargain, or have good-quality clothes to donate, please visit our charity shop at 2 The Dells, Bishops Stortford! https://www.facebook.com/rspcastortvalleycharityshop

Great news!

A law making pet theft a specific offence has been passed this week 🎉

Previously, the theft of a dog or cat was treated the same as any other stolen property such as a mobile phone.

It's a relief that the Bill has passed ahead of Parliament dissolving for the UK General Election, as sadly many other Bills have now automatically fallen. This includes the Import of Dogs, Cats and Ferrets Bill, which would have cracked down on people making quick cash from the exploitation of animals.

Our updated price list, effective from 1st June 2024. We've been able to reduce the cost of follow-up consultations a little in spite of the cost of everything we do going up, but unfortunately the cost of drugs has risen so much that we've had to pass on some increases.
The SV Branch is a small charity and we rely on donations and people using our charity shop in Bishops Stortford for our income. Please check it out when you're next in Stortford - 2 The Dells, right opposite the big car park. RSPCA Stort Valley Branch Charity Shop

** XL Bully Dogs **
We're hearing that there's likely to be an extension to the neutering deadline for younger pups. We'll share more when it's confirmed but would generally advise neutering as soon as you're able to.
Don't forget that you may be able to get help with the cost through the RSPCA/Blue Cross Veterinary Care Fund:

Fox cubs are now appearing all across the UK and, with that, stories of adult foxes spotted 'carrying away' kittens or adult cats will start to rise dramatically.

Please don't be alarmed, sightings like this are usually a v***n moving her cubs to another location (usually a second den site) and are no cause for concern!

Have any of you ever seen this in person?

PLEASE SHARE!

XL Bully dogs... The RSPCA / Blue Cross / Battersea neutering support scheme is now live! More information here: https://www.bluecross.org.uk/neutering-your-xl-bully-support

If you have a XL Bully type dog, please remember that it needs to be registered for exemption already and neutered by the deadline (June for most dogs).

XL Bullies are very much still welcome at our Harlow clinic for check-ups, vaccinations and basic care. Sorry, pooches, but muzzles must be worn to comply with the law. We aren't able to offer neutering in our clinic, so please ask your primary vet. We'll try to gather a list of the local vets who are participating, too.
