Another satisfying groom training session Number 1 for Pepper the cockerpoo.
After being referred from another local groomer as they felt they couldn't help her with her reactivity seemingly getting worst each time.
It takes a good groomer to realise this and being able to pass on clients my way knowing I have the experience in dealing with difficult dogs.
No way at all the fault of her previous groomers.
At groom training school we are taught to groom dogs but not necessarily how to handle those that don't want it or have fears.
Being a dog trainer and behaviour work the small handling skills can make such a big difference to build her trust in me her groomer.
On the first visit glad to say I could complete a full groom, assessing her triggers, using very simple and effective handling and training methods that the dogs feel more secure and trusting with.
She started off trying to kill me 😬 but this isn't her it's her fears and her default reaction to grooming. By the end of her session she was so loving and full of wiggles and kisses.
She had some extreme matting Which once removed she instantly felt better for
This groom isn't show worthy or catwalk pretty but gives me the most satisfaction, look forward to seeing you next time pepper.
**note pepper has been vet checked prior to groom to rule out any pain, and is muzzle trained, she allowed me to remove and I could complete her head ♥️♥️🐶🐶♥️♥️

Shout out to this little dude, in for a dog grooming training session his first one with me👏👏 He did try and wriggle away for holding his head at first but then after some work fell asleep in a Chin rest.
He came recommend following a bite.
My popular dog grooming training sessions are designed to access the dogs triggers, put a training plan in action with owners groomers and or vets.
( the amount of dogs I see for nail clips because the vet can't do it!!)
*** no insult here...⤴️only observations.
Most reactions are fear based and or lack of knowledge in handling or how to help when your dog needs that help the most.
And on most cases it's resulted in moving forward with full grooms and I just handle the stressfull bits for each individual dogs needs. Not all dogs enjoy grooming but can learn to tolerate it with positive yet effective techniques, tools and handling.

Now that the winter chill has started I'm seeing a lot of extra matting areas that are caused by wearing coats/surgery recovery suits.
Here we can see on the chest of a cavapoo some matting that had developed whilst recovery in a suit after a spay op for 10 days.
Meaning we had to go shorter today to remove the matting- but will realise her super cute Christmas photo later 🥰
So if your dogs wearing coats especially the tighter fleece ones then please remember to remove when home especially if wet and muddy, then brush the friction areas to avoid matting.
Not against coats or fleeces as some dogs definitely need- infact my own dog is upside down on the sofa right now in the dog cam wearing her Christmas onesie🤣 she gets very cold.

Please remember "no brushy no fluffy"
Here's an example of what some people may see as a fluffy dog that needs a trim, from the video you can see this isn't the case there is matting at skin level, under his top layer of coat which had been "brushed"
If I can't get a comb through your dogs coat then it will be a shorter trim due to animal welfare, injury risk, and the extra tole on my expensive equipment.
I shall always advise on the brushing needed at home to help, as ever the only way to stop this is regular professional grooms plus brushing at home between grooms.
Every 4-6 weeks.
On that note Christmas is only 6 plus weeks away so be sure to book up in advance, once my appointments are gone they are gone.
