Some of you will have noticed the lack of Noodle stories over the last few weeksā€¦ but here is the sad news, that has been hard to come to terms with.

Heartbreakingly, Noodle passed away on 13th December 2024 šŸ˜¢

We knew this day was near as old age was gradually getting the better of him, but it never makes it any easier, in fact itā€™s almost more difficult. But Noodle still had his place in the herd and was enjoying himself still, despite feeling the cold and his age a little more.

Noodle has been with us since he was 9 months old, and has been with us through all the highs, lows and changes along the way. Heā€™s done lots of trekking, school groups, brownies, dementia groups and so many other therapy sessions, heā€™s been to various events with us and even a wedding too. He has helped us become who we are today too. He was completely dependable and compassionate.

In semi retirement, heā€™s took on the role of babysitter, and he was a brilliant role model, showing the young boys the ropes of life, many a llama looked up to him, and wouldnā€™t be who they are today without Noodleā€™s guidance.

There will be a massive hole left behind by Noodle šŸ’” but many happy memories and smiles!

Rest easy Noodle, you deserve it šŸ’•

We would love to see any photos you have of Noodle, letā€™s remember him and everything he did šŸ©·

Oh hi Rufusā€¦ are you waiting for bedtime?

Rufus is a suri alpaca, and he feels the cold more than the others, so he likes to be tucked up in the barn with a straw bed every night šŸ¦™

Some of you may have noticed that we have been a bit quieter recently, and this is because itā€™s been a tough few weeks for us, whilst trying to keep up with winter duties and Christmas, and we have some sad newsā€¦

At the end of November, after a very short sudden illness, and despite veterinary attention, Simon passed away.

Simon has been with us since he was 6 months old, but he was only just over 8 years old when he passed away. Simon was quite a poorly youngster, and has always been an animal who needed extra attention to remain in tip top condition.

Despite any health issues that life threw at Simon, he never let it get him down. He was a smiley, happy and chatty chap. Simon enjoyed meet and greet, showing off his fluffy fleece, but he also loved getting out and about on walks, even confidently leading treks out, which is rare for our alpacas.

Anyone who met Simon, will know about his love for chatting, Simon always had something to talk about. He was always humming away, whether he was in the barn, meeting people, out trekking, or out and about in the field.

We already miss Simon and his humming, as do his alpaca and llama friends.

Thank you for all the memories!
Rest easy Si šŸ’•šŸ¦™

Lloyd, Nigel and Neville enjoying the snow on Monday ā„ļø

The snow may make some pretty photos, but itā€™s causing us problems nowā€¦

We had over a foot of snow fall Sunday and Monday, but now with the way below freezing temperatures, everything is frozen solid.

The access to the farm is dangerous, so we have cancelled all treks and experiences this week, until at least Sunday.

However, the llamas and alpacas are happy, they enjoy the cold dry weather! šŸ¦™

Bolly is such a handsome chap!

He is now part of our golden oldies herd - how did that happen?! it doesnā€™t seem 2 minutes since he arrived as a 7 year old. But now he is 15 years old, and has lost a couple of teeth, making hay eating a little tricky, so has made the move to the golden oldies herd for a little extra TLC!

Donā€™t worry, he still loves to be with customers and joining us on short treks out!

Itā€™s Malcolmā€™s 6th birthday today! Happy birthday Mr Grumpy!

**EDUCATIONAL PART!**

Do llamas and alpacas spit? Yes, they both do, but not normally at people.

Does Malcolm spit at people? Yes, truthfully he does sometimesā€¦ but why?

Spitting is a form of communication between the herd, and spitting is often used as a defence mechanism.

Llamas and alpacas are strong imprint animals, and this means that as babies (up till around 6months old), they need minimal human interaction. They need to learn to be llamas from their mum and their herd. Too much and/or inappropriate human interaction can break the boundary between humans and llamas, leading to a llama that sees humans as no different to them, and will then treat humans like other llamas/alpacas. This can be impossible to undo, and is often known as ā€˜Berserk Syndromeā€™, which can result in a dangerous animal.

Malcolm is by no means dangerous, heā€™s actually a gentle and nervous soul, but he often doesnā€™t think twice before offering us a spit, usually through ā€˜defenceā€™ in his mindā€¦

He is usually on his best behaviour around customers, but he is not part of our trekking team because of this. He might occasionally join a staff member out on a trek though as he loves getting out. Malcolm does still love a fuss, so he does join in meet and greet, where we can monitor his mood and behaviour, but we always go by Malcolmā€™s rules!
