Bit of info about the ingredients we use…
As I find knowing where our food comes from is just as important as knowing what we putting in our body’s after all health is wealth & we are what we eat so don’t be caught lacking…!
Our organic kumquats (or Chinese oranges) may look like tiny elongated oranges, but they taste like no citrus you’ve met before. Their paper-thin skin is sweet, and their insides are bursting with tart juice. Eat them whole, skin and all, for a gustatory firework – or cook into sour-sweet sauces and desserts, we were most impressed by these tasty little lime-kumquat hybrids. An aromatic balance of sour and sweet, limequats can be eaten whole, skin, seeds and all. Enjoy raw, cook into a fragrant chutney, or use the juice and rind to flavour any number of drinks and dishes. It's rare to see a crop of organic limequats in Europe..!
Our limequats can arrive either green or yellow, or somewhere in between. The colour tends to be determined by how warm the autumn evenings are in Spain. If they get a 14°C temperature difference between day and night, they will turn from green the yellow, otherwise they'll stay green. But don’t wait for them to change - whatever the colour, they’re still perfectly ripe and full of flavour.
Organic blood oranges from the foothills of Mount Etna in Sicily. Grab them while you can – the season is short!
We source a mix of the varieties Moro, Tarocco, and Sanguinello throughout the season. Moro boasts a rich crimson hue, while Tarocco has only a slight touch of pink, but a subtly sweeter taste. The Spanish variety Sanguinello yields vivid orange flesh with red streaks.
The distinctive raspberryish flavour of blood oranges isn’t actually caused by their colour; these varieties range from barely blushing to deep ruby red, but the sweet, refreshing taste remains the same.
Blood oranges have thin skins, and ours are delivered ripe and ready to eat. Keep them in the fridge for freshness, and tuck in as soon as possible (just let them get to room temperature before eating, for the best flavour). They’re unwaxed, so you can use the zest in cooking too..!
We source our kiwis mostly from Spain and Italy during the European growing season. Out of season we import from further afield such as Argentina and New Zealand - we never air freight using sea freight as the most sustainable option. Tangy and juicy, emerald green kiwi fruit gives a refreshing boost to fruit salad and to cool summer drinks. It looks colourful on pavlovas and cakes too.
Pomegranate beetroot juice may promote heart health by improving blood flow and reducing blood pressure. The nitrates in beetroot can help dilate blood vessels, while pomegranate polyphenols may improve cholesterol levels.
Some people believe that wheatgrass can boost the immune system, kill harmful germs, and remove toxins from the body. Wheatgrass is used in Ayurveda to treat high acid levels, inflammation in the colon, poor kidney function.
Fresh from the orchard, our organic pears are crisp and juicy; no dry, cotton-woolly specimens here. We bring you different varieties as the seasons change. From traditional English pears like Conference and Williams during the homegrown season, to Red Bartlett, Anjou and Rocha for sweet variety through the rest of the year. Pears benefit a person's digestion, cholesterol levels, and overall wellbeing. One medium pear provides around 100 calories. As part of a balanced, nutritious diet, consuming pears could support weight loss and reduce a person's risk of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.
The enzymes in pineapple juice help break down protein in your gut, which can help reduce constipation, gas, and bloating. Bromelain also has antibacterial properties that can protect your gut from diarrhea-causing bacteria like E. coli and reduce gut inflammation, vitamins and minerals in pineapple could help shorten viral and bacterial infections and strengthen your bones. There's also a little evidence that pineapple may help prevent cancer and even help fertility by improving the quality of s***m.
A crisp, tangy English apple with a sweet aftertaste. Crimson Crisp has a good firm crunch, with pale yellow flesh and plenty of juice. Handpicked from Paul Ward’s Kent orchards. Red Delicious apples are the healthiest from an antioxidant standpoint, Crumble Smith says. The darker the color of the apple, the richer it'll be in antioxidants. Antioxidants help neutralize the free radicals in our bodies which, when imbalanced, can cause cell damage and lead to disease.
