Meet Barley 💓 She looks quite chill here but, if you know what you're looking for, she's actually quite worried about me being in her house (clue: look at her slightly furrowed brow and raised eyebrow above her left eye).

Barley started showing signs of being unhappy with unknown folk in the house, and generally changes in routine etc around a year ago. This exhibits as barking and even fairly aggressive behaviour towards people. She's also very disgruntled at the lovely new developments that her family have had done to their home and isn't coping well with all the changes, which is quite understandable ☺️

Barley is nearly 7, so although not an old lady, she's almost considered a senior in dog years. She had a problem with a back leg a year ago which was resolved but may still be causing her discomfort. Pain is a major factor in most behaviour changes in our dogs!
Her pawrents are going to get this checked out through a canine vet physio which is the best route to really getting to the bottom of physical issues.

In the meantime, we're going to bring in a "visitor protocol" so Barley feels safe when strangers arrive. And enrichment games and scent work are going to feature highly in bringing down Barley's stress levels and raising that all-important happy hormone production 😃

Puppy Dot is 20 weeks old and lordy me she has the energy of 20 duracell bunnies 🤭😂

Her zoomies and puppy-biting are 15% teething 🦷 and 85% tiredness 😴 Lack of sleep is generally the reason for pups' unwanted behaviour!

Introducing enrichment that promotes licking, sniffing and chewing on a daily basis will calm Dot down, lower her arousal levels and, in turn, should encourage more sleep.... eventually!

On Saturday, Teams Hector 🌟 Murphy 🌟 and Pancake took on the challenge of a walking find, delayed starts and trailing in an urban environment in the dark 😃

And we introduced Teams 🌟 Copper 🌟 and Cookie 🌟 to the Harrogate Mantrailing community 🤩 They both took to it like ducks to water, not remotely phased by the darkness for the last 2 trails!

These 2 give the BEST cuddles 🥹 Sonny and Zucco are such cuties 😍
It was Sonny who I was there to see though, he's only 7 months old and after a fright from a big, over-friendly pooch, he's now very nervous of unknown dogs in his space.

I'm looking forward to working with Sonny and his pawrents to build up his confidence and help him feel less worried around other pooches ☺️

4 fab teams excelled at their trails at the weekend on a mostly urban mantrailing session 😃

We saw some great progress with Chita gaining huge confidence looking for trail layers she hasn't met before, Connie trailing the longest distances she's done to date, Finn smashing his 3rd session with more complicated trails, and Hector aceing a delayed start and still being hugely enthusiastic to the end of the search 🥳🙌

Well done everyone!! 💃🤩

Floof alert 😍 Lily is the cutest little dot! She's a tiny cavapoo with a huge amount of SASS 😆

I had a wonderful evening introducing Lily and her humans to fun enrichment toys, Primula (VERY exciting when you're a puppy 😜) and some training games. Roll on our next training session!!

Cold but sunny session on Sunday! Teams Huxley 🌞Wilson 🌞 Isac 🌞 worked their paws off on some longer trails and walking finds this weekend.

And thank you to these lovely ladies for laying some tracks for Artemis so she could do some tracking practice too 😃🐾

Apparently Bonnie isn't very photogenic 👀 I think we can disagree! She posed like a supermodel for this pic 😍

I had such a lovely first session with Bonnie and her family this week, she was a little cautious of me to start with but was leaning in for cuddles in no time 💗

Bonnie's family re-homed her after she was taken into a rescue from being abandoned on the streets of Leeds. They've made fantastic progress with her, she looks like a different dog now!

We're going to be working on lead walking and recall and also some confidence-building outside the home plus building focus on her humans!

So sad to hear the awful news that Vera passed away today 😞 She had been poorly for a few days and it was just too much for her to recover from.

I will remember her for her zest for life, her passion for 🐿️ and 🐇, her incredible appetite, (most unusual in a whippet!) and her sheer tenacity and determination, and her love of learning new things 💗

Fly high Vera, you will be hugely missed 🌈 🐾💓

Very frosty mantrailing session at Swinsty this weekend 🥶 But Teams Elke ❄️ Marthé❄️ Layla❄️Thea all rose to the challenge of the temperature drop as we lost the light 😃

These teams hadn't trailed for several months but they were back in the game with no hesitation, well done everyone!

So proud of Ollie and his mum this morning, it was his first time off lead and he was fantastic!!

Not only was he coming when he was asked to, but he was checking in like a little star 🌟

The key to off lead success isn't calling your puppy eleventymillion times throughout your walk and hoping they listen 🫢 .. it's teaching them that if they check in with you regularly they'll be rewarded for doing so!!
