I actually had a day off yesterday (!) so we had a change of scenery 😃
I had a fab session with Jack, Bear and Marmite yesterday 😃
They were so excited about the training!
Jack was who I went to see though, he is an over-excitable, frustrated greeter and as such he shouts and charges at other dogs on his walks 🙈
He really enjoyed the new training techniques though, so that should transfer to the outside world so that he can be a little more calm ☺️
🌟Team Poppy 🌟 Team Murphy 🌟 Team Inara 🌟
All did so well yesterday at the Showground! The teams were working in a challenging environment of other scents and a strong wind to find their trail layers, great work everyone 😃🐾
Wow what a great afternoon of trailing yesterday!! 5 teams trailed in a variety of woodland and fields and had a fab time finding their trail layers in bushes, up trees and on logs and benches 😅
It was awesome having some extra trail layers too as we were able to have decoys on some of the searches 😃
Well done to Team Connie 🌟 Team Koko 🌟 Team Wilson 🌟 Team Milo 🌟Team Isac 🌟
I love hearing about all your successes 😍🐾 (and getting pics of your pooches always make my days that extra bit brighter 🥰)
When I first met Dottie a week ago she was so scared of me she growled at me for nearly 40 minutes! Compare that to today when she ran up to me to say hello like we were old friends 🥰
Dottie is nervous of a lot of things, but particularly strangers and other dogs. Her family are working hard to reduce Dottie's anxiety and help her decompress when she's at home so that out on walks she can cope better with her triggers ☺️
Dottie, her dad and I had a lovely training walk today, teaching her that stranger-danger isn't the end of the world and she doesn't need to make the bad things "go away" by barking!
We've had the BEST week away blowing away the cobwebs with sea air 😍
Artemis' seizures came back but lovely Laura at Claro Hill Vets was on hand with great advice and we've upped her epilepsy meds so hopefully that'll help.
I've had lots of enquiries while I've been away, if I haven't already got back to you I'll do so over the weekend 😁

October dates available to book from 1st September 🐾
That's a wrap folks! I'm away from today until Friday evening getting some rest and spending time with my family and the pooches! 🌊 🐾☀️
Urban mantrailing yesterday and wow these guys smashed it!
🌟 Team Hector 🌟 had a brilliant introduction to mantrailing, with Hector picking up the "game" super fast!!
🌟 Team Mylah 🌟 had her first decoy trail 😃
🌟 Team Miso 🌟 built his confidence even further and trotted through all his trails like a boss 👊🏻
🌟 Team Billy 🌟 had some longer, more challenging trails and was an utter super sleuth at finding his trail layers 🕵️♂️ 😍
Fantastic work from everyone especially as the pooches were working in warm temperatures and in an urban environment for the first time!!
Brilliant Puppy Play session this morning at Hopewell Dog Park in the glorious sunshine ☀️
Odin, Toby, Rupert, Otto, Frank, Maisie and Ozzy had the BEST time splashing in the paddling pool and making new friends 😍❤️🐾
A selection of puppies blasting off some steam after working super hard in class this morning! ❤️😆🐾
Little Donald might be small in stature but he has a mighty bark!
His barking is frequent and can be triggered by many things or, sometimes, apparently nothing 👀
Hopefully, with the addition of enrichment games and some medication to clear up a skin condition that's clearly affecting his sleep and by default his mood, his barking should be reduced 🐾
Ozzy is just the most adorable pup! He also has very sharp teeth and bounces like Tigger 🙃
We had a very busy first session teaching Ozzy the value of keeping all 4 paws on the floor and giving a lovely auto-sit and eye contact instead of jumping up like a kangaroo 🦘 And we also taught him a fun game to get him to drop things he shouldn't have plus the start of some recall training 😁
Can you tell he was a smidge tired by the time I left 🙊😂❤️
A busy weekend of mantrailing with 8 fabulous teams!
We introduced Team Alfie to the exciting new game and he was a star 🌟
Teams Maya, Ronnie, Isac, Bramble, Maggie, Otto and Milo all progressed their trailing skills a little further 😃
We incorporated all of these techniques into the 2 sessions 👇🏻
🐾high finds,
🐾different scent articles,
🐾scent transfers,
🐾walking finds
🐾decoys
and
🐾split trails
Great fun! 🤩
Fab first Small Pooch Fun Session at Hopewell Dog Park yesterday!
We were exhausted just watching them 😆🐾
What better way to round off a training class at Hopewell Dog Park than a POOL PARTY 😂
Everyone did get a chance to cool off I just wasn't quick enough with my camera !
PS the water was originally clean 🙈
Handsome Benji enjoying a stuffed bone that I brought to our session 😁 (amongst a huge selection of other goodies!).
Benji is a big cuddle monster at home in his safe space, but outside he's a bundle of nerves and he shouts and pulls on the leads 😔
I'm going to be working with his dad to help Benji feel more safe and give him the tools to better deal with the outside world ❤️
🚨 Only 2 sessions left with availability 🚨

‼️September mantrailing dates will be available to book from 7.30 pm on Thursday this week! ‼️
We introduced Team Milo to the world of mantrailing yesterday 😃 And Team Millie and Team Blaze continued their progress with some fabulous trails!
Brilliant work from everyone and we managed to stay quite cool in the shade of the woods 🌲 🌳 😎
I met floofster Fudge this morning 😍 His hoomans have been preparing for his arrival for a very long time and Saturday was his long-awaited gotcha day!
I'm super excited for our next few training sessions to see how this little fella develops 😃❤️
An excellent new urban venue for yesterday's trailers 😃 The teams all rose to the challenge of different terrain to what they've been used to!
It was nice not having to wear waterproofs and walking boots for a change too 😆
Well done Teams Inara, Bob, Ruby and Bowser! 🌟🐾
I so appreciate lovely reviews 😍🥰❤️
Direct quote from a fab client and his awesome pooch who've worked incredibly hard at loose lead walking 🥳🌟👏🏻
Me doing my happy dance 👉🏻💃😆
Artemis and I trailed with my friend Helen at Wainwright’s Canine Academy on Monday and Artemis was a little star as always 🤩
Helen put together this fab video for us 🥰🐾
A very warm weekend of mantrailing 🥵 And all 7 Teams did incredibly well considering the heat especially on Saturday!
Teams Miso, Mylah, Connie, Maggie, Maya, Bob and Otto took their mantrailing journeys up a notch trying out scent article starts, scent transfer starts (using a hand shake 😃 🤝) and having their trail layers in different positions such as lying down in the grass and on benches 😄
The position of the trail layer can make a big difference to how a dog reacts to the "find" at the end of the trail, but all the dogs did really well and greeted their trail layers with enthusiasm!

Artemis and I trailed with my friend Helen at Wainwright’s Canine Academy on Monday and Artemis was a little star as always 🤩 Helen put together this fab video for us 🥰🐾
I teach (and bang on a lot about 🙈) the value of reinforcing the "side" position for our dogs. This video demonstrates why! I haven't called Artemis once on any of these occasions.. she simply checks in and assumes the position next to my leg 😁 She also does this when she's on the lead, I'll do another video for that! PS apologies for the awful soundtrack 😜
🔉 sound on 🔉 I love a game of recall ping pong to keep pups engaged outside, and to teach them the value of returning to their humans 😃 There's so many fabulous games we can play with our dogs regardless of breed or size, there's never any need for aversive methods or tools to keep them coming back to us ☺️🩷 Thor picked it up super quickly on his first time off lead yesterday! 🙌🥳
📢 Sound on! Perfect recall off a bouncy deer 🦌 😃 No need for "vibration" collars, prong collars or any other aversive nonsense.. just good old classical conditioning of a recall cue 💓☺️
Two of Artemis' own trails from Friday's mantrailing session with York Mantrailing 😁 She absolutely smashed all of them but on these 2 she did particularly well. So proud of her progress! PS it's 4 minutes long but look her at little legs go 😆
🔈Sound on🔈 Otto had his first off-lead walk yesterday and he super smashed it 🤜 🤛 🙌 Here he is demonstrating that he knows ALL his new recall cues and games off.by.heart.... 🥳🤩
🔊Sound on 🔊 If we do nothing else on our 1:1s we definitely laugh.. a lot 😂 And teeny Truffle on her first off lead adventure yesterday was so excited I just had to film her 😆 Once she’d got over her zoomies she actually listened beautifully to her mum and I and was a little star for the whole walk 😍
Lead walking is the most requested behaviour I’m asked to help clients with. Here’s a video of Artemis showing our training journey over the last 2 years. We started when she was 8 weeks old, then I lost my mojo a bit when she was 1 and realised she was pulling like a steam train 🚂 and was reacting badly to traffic 🥺 So back to the drawing board and daily practice, and here we are today! Watch it to the end because the last clip in the woods is genuinely impressive. She’s surrounded by her favourite furry creatures 🐿️ hence the stopping to observe the little b*ggers running around her from every angle 😆
Working on “place” training in our third class of Grade 2 Obedience/Life Skills this morning 😁 Everyone is working at their dog’s own pace, so we have focus on distance, duration and send-to being improved on here. Some huge progression since Week 1 🥳🙌
I was chatting with a friend about scent work this afternoon and different odours and thought I’d teach Artemis a new one! Here she is smashing a search for rosemary (had some in my spice rack 😂) after only working on it for 10 minutes! Scent work is just fantastic for getting those busy spaniel brain cells working 😜 🧠
Teaching recall to puppies is one of my ALL TIME favourite things 😍 This is Larry’s first time off lead and running free as a bird! He’s certainly already learnt his recall cues 😃🙌🏻🎉
🔉Sound on 🔉 A little montage of Artemis’ recall! Some points that if you’re already a client of mine you’ll no doubt be sick of hearing 😜 🌟 only say your recall cue once, if you’re having to repeat it it’s because your dog doesn’t understand it 🌟say it like you mean it, no weak, under-your-breath whispers 🌟only say it when you really need your dog to come back, don’t “test” your dog by constantly saying your cue. They’ll get bored of hearing it and start to ignore you. 🌟And lastly, and this is probably an unpopular opinion but I don’t care, ALWAYS reward a recall… pay your dog for doing what you asked!! In all of these videos there were a plethora of squirrels which Artemis ADORES to chase, but she still comes back when I call her. NB ZERO AVERSIVE TECHNIQUES OR EQUIPMENT WERE USED OR REQUIRED OR EVER WILL BE WITH ANY OF MY OWN OR CLIENTS DOGS
At 12.5 years old Lady understandably has some arthritic aches and pains and stiffness .. so today we started her physio and hydro therapy and she loved it! Well she didn’t quite love the swimming but she gave it a good go 😆 Sophie The Harrogate Vet Physio is absolutely amazing with her and Artemis, I highly recommend her if your pooches need treatment 😍
Baby Hugo’s very first time off the lead yesterday 😍 He knows his recall cue “here” really well already and we had just taught him “ready find it” so that was a work in progress 😜
When is a recall not a recall 🤔 When it’s a voluntary check-in! Here’s a compilation of a few of Artemis’ MANY check-ins on our walks. I rarely call her back as she likes to ping back to me to see where I am. She does this because from 12 weeks old I have ALWAYS rewarded her with either a treat or at the very least a “hi there!” so it’s worth her while coming back ☺️ This then overrides her natural desire to b*gger off after those pesky furry things 😉 🐿️ 🐰 Zero need for prong collars, shock collars, e-collars, vibration collars or any other aversive cr*p ✋ 🥳 I also often use the release cue “off you go” otherwise she won’t go away and dog 😂 Lady is an old girl now and largely always by my side 🥰
Look at the fabulous progress we’re making in our Reactivity Rehab course! This is Billy parallel walking with Artemis who he’s never met before today 😃 Billy’s mum was using all the techniques we’ve learnt in the classes to keep Billy calm and focused 🤩 And we had a huge breakthrough with Bruce the doberman who worked predominantly outside of his barrier for the whole class today 🥳🙌🏻
