Tia was brought to us after she was shaking her head a lot after her morning walk.
In typical spaniel style, she had been diving amongst long grass and a grass seed had found its way down her ear canal!
Grass seeds are commonly found lodged in ears, between the toes and even in eyes!
If your dog loves to run in long grass, make sure to give them a good check over for seeds as they can cause issues.
Harley definitely earned his brave boy award this week. Harley has been in for sore ears, he has been such a superstar for the vets and nurses when he has been having his treatment.
What a handsome lad he is!

However for those that suffer... this also means a flare up of seasonal allergies 🤧🤧
Dogs can experience allergies just as much as us humans, just like lovely Amber here. However thanks to her regular medication, she is itch free and super happy!

Emma graduated in 2023 from the University of Surrey, she enjoys all aspects of veterinary but has a particular interest in small animal medicine. Emma loves working in first opinion practice and how variable every day is.🏞
Emma is an avid cat lover and has her own called, Princess who was a rescue.🐈⬛

🐾Nicola Barter🐾
Nicola graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2018 and has been working in small animal practice since. She started her career in Norfolk but has recently moved to Harrogate with her Norfolk terrier X called Beanie, to live closer to her sister.
Nicola really loves the variety of general practice and how every day is truly different. In her spare time, she loves to get out with her dog, spending time with her friends and family and arty hobbies like painting, sewing and embroidery.🪡

🐾Andrew Bates🐾
Andrew graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2010. He started his career in mixed practice but has been dedicated to small animal practice the last few years. He has worked in Suffolk and Sussex and has now come back to the area that he grew up in. Andrew enjoys working in first opinion practice and is interested in internal medicine, radiography and ultrasonography.🩻
Andrew doesn't currently have any pets - due to moving around a bit - but he is wanting to get a feline friend once he is settled.
Outside of work he enjoys Lindy Hop dancing, making and seeing art, bouldering and getting places by bike.

🐾Leigh-Anne Brown🐾
Leigh-Anne grew up in the West of Scotland and graduated from the University of Glasgow in July 2000, and moved to Yorkshire in the August of that year and took over the Harrogate practice in 2008.
Leigh-Anne says "the most rewarding thing in my career is getting to know our clients and their pets. Knowing pets from their first visit to their last is a real privilege. It’s lovely to see people every year and hear about their lives too and to see their human families grow up."
She has two dogs, Senga the Bedlington terrier cross who is 1, and Hatty the chin-pin who was a rescue from Miss Mollies. She came in with a broken leg whilst heavily pregnant and I fell for her despite being a “big dog” person at heart.
When she's not in work mode, Leigh-Anne loves going to festivals, being a bit of a music geek, and reading. Herself and the dogs also like to visit all the dog friendly cafes, restaurants and bars in Harrogate!

Today, up and down the country people will be celebrating their fathers on Fathers Day! This is the day to show our appreciation for our dads (whether that be human or animal!) and let them know that no matter what awful dad jokes they come with, we still love them! It is the 10th of June 2024, meaning new cat microchipping laws are now in place! 👨⚖️
ALL cats must now be microchipped before they reach the age of 20 weeks old (excluding farm/ferals). Failure to do so may result in a fine.
If you need to check your cat for a microchip, the details stored on their microchip or book in for chipping, please call the practice on 01423 886666 to make an appointment📆
⏳24 hours remaining!! ⏳
The law on microchipping cats is changing TOMORROW, you must ensure your cat is chipped with up to date details, failure to do so could result in a fine. We will still be offering £10.00 microchips throughout next week and encourage anyone who is not booked in, to do so ASAP!
⏳The final 48 hour countdown for getting your feline friends microchipped is ON! We are open today, 9am-6pm with available appointments to get those chips implanted, give the practice a call and you will be taken care of!⏳
⏳There is now only 72 hours to get your cats microchipped in order to conform with the new law being introduced this Monday, we have appointments available today and on Saturday to have those last minute chips implanted for just £10.00!! ⏳

Beautiful Bella has lost two kilograms on a weight loss journey with Wakefield Vets4Pets – and owner Hayley says she's much more active, playful and affectionate as a result. "She just seems generally less grumpy as well – she probably felt how we do when we've overindulged!"
When Bella came in for her booster vaccination a year ago the team noted that she was overweight and would need to slim down to help her live a long and happy life. Since then the three-year-old house cat has been put on a special diet and she's now lost a third of her weight. Hayley said: "We're incredibly grateful to the team at Vets for Pets. They've given us some great advice and tips to keep the weight down. They are so approachable and we've never felt judged by them."
Head veterinary nurse Jess said: "Bella has been on her weight loss journey for over a year now and she's seen once a month for basically Waggy Weightwatchers as we call it. The owners have stuck with the plan very well and took note of everything we have told them, which is great. A 2kg loss is quite a substantial loss for a cat, so she's done really well."

Ten-month-old Filemon is on the mend after he fell behind a wardrobe and fractured one of his front legs in three places.
He was taken to the specialist orthopaedic team at Vets4Pets Cross Hands in Llanelli by his owners Kasia and Andrzej where he had surgery to repair the bone with implants. The main recovery barriers for Filemon were possible nerve damage, and keeping him quiet long enough to give his bone and wound time to heal – which veterinary nurse Rebecca says is no easy task for a cat owner. She said: "Thankfully, with the help of his diligent owner and plenty of the right medication, Filemon is recovering well and has full range of motion in his leg."
Kasia said: "We'd like to say a massive thank you to the Vets for Pets team for doing an amazing job to get Filemon back on his four legs! After surgery Filemon was in a crate for six weeks which wasn't easy for him being such a young and playful kitten. It's now been two months since the surgery and he's recovering really well. He's enjoying himself again just like before the accident."

Meet Jimmy, thanks to his microchip, he was reunited with his family after 2 years!
In 2021, Jimmy was suspected to be involved in a road traffic accident in which his owners were told he didn't make it. After straying for 2 years, a member of the public brought him into Doncaster Vets4Pets where our team scanned him for a microchip. After a quick call to his owners, our team were able to reunite him with his owners. We do love a happy ending💚
Storm visited Preston Capitol Vets4Pets after she got a stick stuck up her nose on a walk. The team used an otoscope to help find the stick inside her nasal passage. After using general anaesthetic, they used forceps to pull our the stick that was tightly wedged. After the removal, Storm was back to her usual happy self 💚
Aubrey visited Vets4Pets Runcorn and made herself comfortable in the sink during her consultation😆

Daisy visited Vets for Pets Hereford for her annual nail trim. She manages to keep her nails maintained by using a variety of different sized perches. This allows for natural wear to keep them in good shape.

In honour of 'World Spaying Day', we'd love to invite you along with us to Senga's spay! Spaying (and castrating) is something we do routinely and it is an extremely important part of owning your pet, to prevent some illnesses and also stop overpopulation and unwanted litters! Spaying can significantly reduce the risk of certain issues such as ovarian cancer as well as stopping the chance of developing pyometra, which is serious and can be fatal. We would advise spaying kittens from 4 months of age, and dogs 3 months after their first season. Day 4 of Rabbit Awareness Week and today we are looking at enrichment🐰 Rabbits are crepuscular, meaning they are most active at dusk and dawn. Bunnies love to dig in dirt and play in their tunnels, as beutifully displayed by Whiskey. They are very active and like to have platforms to explore, as well as toys to play with. An environment that encourages physical and mental stimulation will ensure your bunny is happy! Scattering your buns food will encourage them to forage and keep them active, placing things up high, encouraging them to stand on their back legs is also very beneficial to their physical health, as it helps stretch their backs! Hands down best moment this week? Diesel running in to see us, wagging his tail, two days after major surgery. This fifteen week old baby boy shredded something stringy which got wrapped around his tongue and stuck, and was swallowed so the other end made it down his oesophagus, through his stomach and about three feet into his small intestine, where it gathered in a ball and wedged firmly. His poor system was trying to move it through and it was getting tighter round his tongue, like a cheese wire, and his gut was turning inside itself like a telescope trying to move the blockage. He had to have the string cut in three places to release it, then an incision in his stomach and two in his intestine to remove it. Speedy diagnosis and surgery meant we got there in time to give him the best chance but even so this is a remarkable recovery! Well done Diesel, what a relief! Here’s our nurse Naomi doing an in-patient check on the lovely wiggly Walter, who has had a very rough week but is well on the mend. He also managed to participate in the nurse training meeting on her lap and learned all about surgical sterility preparations 😂. We’re please to see him on the mend- how can you not love a job like this? Have a great weekend everyone!
