Who is young enough to remember Art Attack? 🤣.

Maybe the heat is getting to us, but it turns out that 34 sacks of pond sticks (weighing a quarter of a ton and worth £1360) can make a fish bigger than the van 🤓

🚌🚌 It turns out pallets of JBL All Season Pond Sticks are like buses! No sign of them all year and now two have come along at once!

We ordered these in November and it's taken until yesterday for them to battle through a computer system drama and Brexit-related border delays!

Please come and buy lots of them ASAP as there are too many to fit in our storeroom and they probably take up as much space as a bus🤣🤣. £39.99 each! Bargain!

The toadlets are on the march! This is the time of year where tiny toads have left their ponds and are hunting round your garden for insects. Tread carefully and dig/mow with caution- they are soooo little and easily squished🥺

Ever wondered where duckweed comes from...?

You can spend hours painstakingly scooping it off the pond but by the next day, it's back! It often hitch-hikes in on frogs, toads, newts and birds, and it only takes one little piece to start off your duckweed collection again!

A little covering of duckweed is healthy for the ecosystem, but too much can choke other plants and block light and essential gas exchange at the surface.

The best way to control it is to remove as much as you can by hand and then add an anti-duckweed treatment (which usually works by binding phosphate so the duckweed is starved of nutrients and can't spread). Come and talk to us about the best options for your pond.

Remember to make a draining board!

If you are clearing out pond plants, make sure you let them drain on a plank above the water for 24 hours to let any critters squiggle safely back into the water before you put it on the compost heap. 🪱🐌🪳🦐🐸

FISHMAS DELIVERY SCHEDULE

To make up for the fact we're closed between Christmas and New Year, we're doing a mid-break delivery run. We've put together some easy packs that are set prices, but if you need (or just crave!) anything else then just get in touch and we'll see what we can do🙃.

A = £25
B = £25
C = £30
D = £25

Delivery cost is already included in the pack deals, but will be £5 for anything else, anywhere within 5 miles of the shop (e.g. if you wanted £20 of driftwood, it would be £20 + £5).

Thinking of a new fish tank for Christmas?

Make sure you plan ahead for the set-up/cycling time📅🤓. You ideally need to be setting it up a week before you add the first fish, so your options are:

🐟 Set the tank up by 17th Dec and come and get your first fish on Xmas Eve
🐟 Unwrap the tank Xmas Day and get your first fish delivered to your door on the 31st

Delivery day this holiday is Sunday 31st and it is the usual £5 delivery cost for addresses in a 5 mile radius of the shop. You can order/reserve anything we have in stock at the time and we'll advertise details of some 'selection packs' you could choose from over the next few days.

Both these tanks were set up in the same week in October, both 60 litre SuperFish Scapers (A is the 60 rectangle and B is the 60 cube). The sets come with a hang-on filter and LED lighting, and include fertiliser and liquid CO2. To really get those red plants popping, a pressurised CO2 kit has also been used on both tanks.
All plants are from our usual high-quality Aquadip selection and kept in stock here.

All votes will be counted until 24th Dec at 1pm, when the lucky winner of an NT Labs ProCare Aquascaping Tool will be announced.

Our guess is that this is an adult leech with newly hatched baby leeches stuck to its underside, but if anyone can confirm or expand on that, we're keen to learn! 🤓

Although we are normally 'business as usual' on bank holidays, we will be closed on the national Bank Holiday Monday 19th September as a mark of respect for the HRH Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.

*This will affect the order deadline for live food 🪱 and aquarium plants🌿, so please let us know by 5pm Sun 18th if you need anything for the delivery arriving on Friday 23rd.
