Seasons Sleepings!

We're open 9am-3.30pm Christmas Eve and then we catch up on some sleep until we reopen on Saturday 4th January.

We would like to thank all of our lovely customers for your support this year (especially those of you who brought chocolate and biscuits!). Have a good break and all the best for 2025!

❄️Cold weather feeding❄️

Please don't feed your pond fish while the weather is this cold! The gentleman who brought us this water sample has tragically lost his 20 year old koi carp 🥺because he kept feeding his fish when the water temperature was too cold for bacteria to break down the waste safely, so the Ammonia level has rocketed. He also forgot to monitor his pH level and his pH was 1000 times more acidic than it should be.
If in doubt at this time of year, don't feed pond fish at all. They spend the summer building body fat so they can coast through the winter without eating. Wheatgerm-based winter food is great, but only for 6-10°C water temperature. Any colder than that and bacteria can't reliably break down the waste.

🚌🚌 It turns out pallets of JBL All Season Pond Sticks are like buses! No sign of them all year and now two have come along at once!

We ordered these in November and it's taken until yesterday for them to battle through a computer system drama and Brexit-related border delays!

Please come and buy lots of them ASAP as there are too many to fit in our storeroom and they probably take up as much space as a bus🤣🤣. £39.99 each! Bargain!

Ever wondered where duckweed comes from...?

You can spend hours painstakingly scooping it off the pond but by the next day, it's back! It often hitch-hikes in on frogs, toads, newts and birds, and it only takes one little piece to start off your duckweed collection again!

A little covering of duckweed is healthy for the ecosystem, but too much can choke other plants and block light and essential gas exchange at the surface.

The best way to control it is to remove as much as you can by hand and then add an anti-duckweed treatment (which usually works by binding phosphate so the duckweed is starved of nutrients and can't spread). Come and talk to us about the best options for your pond.

FISHMAS DELIVERY SCHEDULE

To make up for the fact we're closed between Christmas and New Year, we're doing a mid-break delivery run. We've put together some easy packs that are set prices, but if you need (or just crave!) anything else then just get in touch and we'll see what we can do🙃.

A = £25
B = £25
C = £30
D = £25

Delivery cost is already included in the pack deals, but will be £5 for anything else, anywhere within 5 miles of the shop (e.g. if you wanted £20 of driftwood, it would be £20 + £5).

Anyone good at pond critter ID? Our guess is that this is an adult leech with newly hatched baby leeches stuck to its underside, but if anyone can confirm or expand on that, we're keen to learn! 🤓

Although we are normally 'business as usual' on bank holidays, we will be closed on the national Bank Holiday Monday 19th September as a mark of respect for the HRH Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. *This will affect the order deadline for live food 🪱 and aquarium plants🌿, so please let us know by 5pm Sun 18th if you need anything for the delivery arriving on Friday 23rd. We will be back to normal opening hours Tuesday 20th 9am-5pm
