My Sky …. Now 12.5 years old … still loving her Muddy Mutts walks, still physically healthy and very well. Just a bit of age related sleep disturbance creeping in … currently working with my vets to rule out pain as the physio detected some tightness around one of her lumbar vertebra … apart from that she’s still my best little partner in grime 😬💖

As a life long animal lover I consider it a privilege to be able to care for so many and I treat each one like it was my own. Their comfort, happiness. well being and safety are my priorities. Having owned 3 rabbits, 2 gerbils & 2 guinea pigs as a child and as an adult owned 2 lizards, 9 cats (Floyd, Simba, Phoebe, Mouse, Freya, Spock, Bunty, Spook & Igmu) and 7 dogs (Milly, Jess, Sky, Wren, Scout, Yogi and Boo) as well as having responsibility for the care & exercise of numerous horses throughout my adult life - well life would not be the same without animals to share it with!
I worked most of my post graduate life in professional management roles until, inspired by having my own young working cocker spaniel at home after a gap of having no dogs only cats, I bit the bullet and set up Muddy Mutts of Harrogate. Being able to bring her along to work with me has been wonderful and being entrusted to care for other people’s dogs and pets is equally wonderful ; my lovely girl Sky has always welcomed each new dog - young, old, shy or bold - into her daily walking groups with me! I love what I do as I am passionate about animals and their well being and of course love being outdoors - whatever the weather! Such fun spending time with a variety of such amazing dogs and a privilege being part of their lives.
I now own 5 working cockers; all amazing little characters. We love to do gun dog training together when we are not out and about enjoying all the great walks around Harrogate and the Yorkshire Dales as training keeps their active minds occupied and also adds a fresh dimension to our training - my dogs love it!
I have studied several accredited courses on dog behaviour & training; my studies are continuing to ensure the latest most up to date information on how our dogs learn and what makes them tick is included in my skill set. I am a committed positive reinforcement trainer - treats, toys & praise as well as just plain old positive daily interaction with me usually ensure my Muddy Mutts are happy and responsive while out on their walks with me. As whistle training is a normal part of gun dog training I am a big fan so my Muddy Mutts also learn fairly quickly to recall to whistle with me: I am proud to say I was the first Professional Dog Walker in Harrogate to whistle train my group walkers and also promote this in recall training to my 1-2-1 training clients - it seems to have caught on! Some lead - others follow! At Muddy Mutts good dog walking practise not only keeps the dogs in my care safe it also prevents them being a nuisance to the general public - not all dogs appreciate being approached by other strange dogs and not all people enjoy it either and as dogs cannot possibly know when it is ok and when it is not to engage with others - the rules are consistent and my dogs learn for the most part to stay within their group and enjoy their walks and have fun with each other and with me without causing issues to other unknown dogs & people. It is always lovely of course to meet, as we often do on our daily excursions, local dog owners along the way when their dog can come and say hello and engage in a controlled way - if they want to! I believe good manners cost nothing. Muddies have the best time in well matched groups - no stress just relaxed and enjoyable outdoor fun time at a variety of great walking venues; I believe keeping things predictable for them means they can enjoy their walks while they know I am looking out for them - and of course am the bearer of tasty treats to help keep them close and call them in when needed!
Puppy care slots are limited and I am always pleased to be able to include my puppy care clients as they grow through home visits to short puppy walks eventually into my group walks if suitable.
All of this makes for a very happy Muddy Mutts Family!
