Paws & Mittens

Paws & Mittens Rescue, Rehabilitation, Assisting Lost and found, and Home-to-Home assistance of Stray, Surrendered and Abandoned Cats and Kittens, covering Tendring, Essex.

All of the Cats and Kittens on our Home page are in need of a new forever home! We also have many other cats in our care at any given time, not quite yet ready for adoption. Paws & Mittens is a small, self-funded rescue that helps to rehome and rescue Cats and Kittens. This happens either through foster care here with us in our "Kitty-Haven" and "Kitty-Nursery", with our volunteer Foster Mums, or

home to home adoptions. We rely solely on donations to help keep our rescue operating and to provide the food, litter and Vet care for all our cats. Donations of food, Wood-Based litter, toys, Kitchen Towel, Blankets, Cleaning Products and Pet Carriers are always welcomed

Such sad news to bring you this evening of our “forever foster” boy Sir Fluff.

After a devastating diagnosis of inoperable tumours today; we had to say a heart breaking goodbye to our darling boy.

We wish we could have shared our lives with him for longer.

We will miss you so much; our handsome, scruffy, funny and cheeky boy.

*** Fizel ***

Fizel is a beautiful boy, approx 5 years old.

He is a full pedigree Bengal.

True to Bengal characters, Fizel has reluctantly come into care, as despite being super loving boy to people… he’s a notorious, unsociable menace to the other cats on his street and surrounding areas.

Flizel has spent his entire life having access to the outside, and stopping that now could cause him huge distress and in turn, potentially fatal UTI infections.

Fizel has to have the following:

* Only cat home
* Outside access - this can be via a very rural area with no other cats in the close vicinity, Or a large “catio” / outside secure area he had access to.

Fizel is neutered and microchipped and uses his litter tray beatifully.

He could live with very, gentle, mild mannered young children.

A Homecheck would apply and an adoption donation of £75 asked.

Please do message us and tell us more if you feel you would have the perfect home for this dear boy. Thank you x

*** Truffles ***

Hello, my name is Truffles.

I came into care in July, when I was left outside a vets, in a carrier, with my 5 x 4 week old babies 😞

Paws has no idea how many other litters I’ve had before, but I’m not very old, maybe 2-4 years.

I’ve been an incredible mummy.

I’m such a loving girl, who adores fuss and a lap to sit on.

I just want to be spoilt and loved for the beautiful girl I am.

I could live happily on my own, with one or two of my babies, or with another gentle cat with slow introductions.

I will need access to the outside once settled, away from any busy main roads or traintracks.

I have now of course been spayed (no more babies for me!) vet checked and microchipped.

I am currently in foster care in Clacton.

A Homecheck will be required and an adoption donation of £75 kindly asked.

*** Snickers ***

Hello, my name is Snickers.

I came into care in July last year, after myself, my mummy and my 4 siblings were found left in a cat carrier outside a vets.

Myself and my siblings were just 4 weeks old.

We are now all more than ready for a new home.
(One my brothers and sisters have already found a forever home)

That leaves me, my 2 siblings and mummy. (We think mummy has been reserved!)

I am 9 months old. I am so super friendly and cuddly 🙂

I could be homed as an only cat, but I would like company or especially be homed with one or both of my brothers / sisters!

I am neutered, microchipped, fully up to date on flea and worm treatments.

I need a home with safe outside access away from any busy main roads.

I could live with another cat or even cat friendly dog, with very slow introductions, and I could live with gentle, kind, young children.

I am currently in foster care in Clacton, Essex.

A Homecheck is required and an adoption donation of £75 kindly asked.

If you feel you could offer me a forever home, please do message us and tell us more.

Thank you x

🌈😿 Gaston - Our beautiful Boy 😿🌈

Some very sad news to bring to you today.

Anyone following Paws for the last few months and many more, will know this beautiful face of Gaston.

An incredibly handsome boy who came into care 14 months ago as a long term stray with a long history.

He was quickly diagnosed as Hyperthyroid and with mild Kidney disease.

For the last 14 months, his doting and adoring foster Mum, Jo has been taking such good care of our boy, with his daily medication and special food whilst we did all we could to find him a special forever home.

So very sadly, a couple of weeks ago, Gaston showed signs of becoming unwell, and after a vets consult and bloods, it was so sadly confirmed that Gastons Kidneys had finally gone into failure and nothing more could be done :(

Gaston went back home with Jo, on palliative care, and on the 13th February, the hard decision was made that Gaston was at end of life and our beautiful Vet we use, came out to Gaston in his "home" and he was peacefully, and with dignity, sent on his next chapter amongst stars, on the lap of his foster Mum comfy in front of the fire.

We had been searching for your forever home darling.... you had already found it.

You've had a safe, loved and cherished last 14 months. Thank you Jo, your foster Mum. I know you will have loved her as much as she loved you. You were home. You are now home..

Thank you Jo for all your love. Gaston, you will be missed.

Sleep tight beautiful boy, be the brightest star in the sky. ✨

Where have we been!?... (I hear you ask!)

Apologies..... my goodness, the end of 2024 and the start of 2025 has been swamped with lots of "good feel" news but also sadly, some "not so good feel" news.

Things are settling, and we will aim to update you all in the next few weeks on all that's been happening behind the scenes.

Including some very sad stories, some lovely success stories, and also some gorgeous kitty's in care, finally ready for a new home!

Watch this space.

Apologies for the quiet good few weeks, we have still been here and continue to appreciate your support, so much appreciated and always needed.

xx

*** " Sir Fluff" - Shave number 2! ***

Oh, our darling boy, who came into care well over a year ago, hes been in rehab ever since....

Initially, not neutered, chipped, he was blood tested positive for FIV, we knew he was going to stay...

A year ago, he was snipped, chipped, and had a full "lion" cut as his fur was so so matted, and being feral, he would not let me close.

A year on, the last few months, we have made HUGE progress, he will sit on my lap and accept a brush for a minute, two at the most! :)

But sadly, after well over a yea, trying gaining his trust and after his 2 x dentals, he couldnt look after his new coat and it got so sore for him again :(

So today, off he went to the vets to sedate and make him feel so much better..

And already, now hes home, hes a different cat, on my lap purring..

Sir Fluff, PLEASE be a brave boy now and let me brush you, we have to avoid shave number 3!

Heating in the house is on full blast, hes so many blankets to snuggle up to!

It will soon grow back, but going by his head bops and purrs this evening , he is feeling better.

Coat #2 baby boy, PLEASE look after it, or let me help you
