William Whitaker wins the 2016 Hickstead Derby

We're rolling the clock back to 2016, when William Whitaker Official became the third member of his famous family to win the Hickstead Derby.
Riding Glenavadra Brilliant, William produced a lovely jumping round to finish on just one time fault to take the win.
William came very close to adding a second Al Shira'aa victory to his CV last summer, when he made it through to the jump-off with Flamboyant III. The pair produced the fastest time, but two fences down put them in second place behind William Funnell and Dublon.

All week we've been counting down some of the epic wins from the 2024 season, and we had to finish with this incredible round by William Funnell and Dublon, winners of the Al Shira'aa Derby. In the jump-off, William gave a masterclass of how to ride the Derby course, leaving every fence standing but going quick enough to put the pressure on the last rider to go. Their win back in June made William the first rider ever to win with Hickstead Derby five times.
