A few more clips over the last couple of days, including fitting in our own little Tommy for his first one of the season, just a trace clip for now but sure I’ll be clipping him off in full within a couple of weeks as no doubt he’ll suddenly be like some sort of yeti 😂 all were impeccable behaved to do!

A clean coat really makes a difference!

🧼Bathing prior to clipping is essential for finish, blade longevity and the comfort of your horse 🧼

To wash or not to wash prior to clipping is a topic we see debated every winter, the common theme being not wanting to wash because of the cold, not having a hot wash and solarium set up etc. but also not being prepared for what happens when you clip a dirty coat

❌ Blades may not last an entire clip
❌Blades may over heat and need to be constantly cleared of hair
❌ Machines may over heat due to excess strain

How to prepare the coat for clipping ⬇️

📍Wash your horse using a scrubby brush ensuring to get down to the skin (this is where the blades clip after all)
📍Rinse your horse thoroughly - product left in the coat will also do harm to your blades
📍Allow your horse 24 hours to completely dry and brush through the coat before clipping

❌Avoid coat oils and sprays prior to clipping these clog up your blades and do not make it easier for your clippers and are not used in place of bathing
❌Never clip a wet horse 🤯
❌Just running a hose over the horse is not washing

🚿If you cannot wash for what ever reason grooming can be done in its place in the lead up to clipping. A good groom using a variety of brushes to get through the coat. And hot clothing for a week in the run up to clipping to draw the grease out of the coat. This is not as effective as bathing but will help in a pinch🚿

Also remember you can spot wash ie if you’re only doing a Bib only wash the area you plan on clipping, with a bucket and sponge if necessary. ✅

What do you do before clipping ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Yesterday was the first clip of the season for me and it was a new clients horse, the lovely Mavis. She was a fairly hairy feathery little cob before and had a full clip and re-hogged. She had been bathed before and got a great finish! Love the new , also used the for the more fiddly and sensitive areas. Forgot to take a before picture but here she is after!

So just like that the clipping season is upon us again!

After being so impressed by my Liveryman Harmony Plus set I bought last year, which are fantastic for more sensitive areas and even whole clips on the nervous horses, I have treated myself to the Liveryman Black Beauty’s, and they have arrived.

Can’t wait to try them out next week, hoping to get some fantastic clips with them, have seen a lot of great reviews!

Bookings are coming in already, so contact me now to discuss your requirements or get a date in the diary.

Availability at the moment on the below dates:
18 September - AM in or around Hastings area
25 and 26 September - all day both days
9 October - between Hastings and Hailsham
Other dates can be arranged, please contact to discuss.

I do ask that horses are as clean as possible for their clip, preferably bathed the day before or on the day if time to dry. This helps to look after my machines and blades as well as making it more comfortable for your horse and will also get a better end result.

Transformation day today for Billy who I last clipped back in October. I don’t think the before picture shows quite how hairy he was! Also a little bib and belly clip for Willow who’s in the background, but forgot to picture of her!

Another few clipped today at Duckhurst Farm. A second clip for Sid, who is such a gentle giant, a blanket clip for a big Irish Draft lad. Lastly a bit of hair off for old boy Adam as he was getting a bit sweaty bless him in his winter woolies, he is looking fab at 24 in his retirement, and was a pleasure to clip as he always was whilst competing!

Clipped the lovely Sunny at the weekend. He was a fluffy teddy bear but his owners had done a great job washing him the day before and look how clean he was underneath all that hair! It really makes a massive difference to the clip you get as well as being much less hard on my machines and blades when the coat is as clean as possible.

The weekend saw some more clipping at Duckhurst Farm horses. Again forgot to picture them all, even remembered a before of one and forgot an after shot 🤦🏽‍♀️ 4 done with one being a re clip that had grown back again since the last visit. All good to do, with a couple probably never having been clipped before, that just needed a little reassurance and the little quiet clippers came in handy for the more sensitive areas.
