Hastings Aquarium is home to over 3500 incredible aquatic animals and reptiles. Offering scheduled talks and feeds with its team of Aquarist Experts, animal handling sessions and a gigantic ocean tank complete with underwater walkthrough tunnel, Hastings Aquarium is the perfect family destination.

The weather hasn’t been so great recently, but that doesn’t stop Ellie from getting out and about and enjoying herself – here she is at Hastings Aquarium, where she spent a lovely day with Lauren looking at the sharks and marine life 🐠🐙🦞🦀🦈

We had an incredible weekend at the aquarium with our lead kelp growth expert, Steve Allnutt, delving into the finer details of active kelp recovery. Together, we explored lab analysis, tank studies, and the immense potential for using this initiative to educate, raise awareness, and position Hastings as a hub for scientific research, understanding, and innovation in the study of UK waters.

This active kelp rewilding project is unique—there’s nothing else like it in the UK. By leading the way, we aim to transform how the country approaches kelp recovery and environmental action. It’s our responsibility to address the damage humans have caused—climate change, carbon emissions, biodiversity loss—and take meaningful steps to heal the planet. This is where it begins: sustainable, grassroots, proactive, zero-footprint environmental management, driven by community effort and the next generation, for the benefit of wildlife, the planet, and our shared future.

With just a few regulatory details to finalise, the formal launch party is just around the corner....

New Blog! What are Arthropods?

Across the animal kingdom, there are an incredible amount of different classifications of animals that vary wildly, from furry mammals to scaly reptiles.

Classifications are broken into two broad groups, vertebrates and invertebrates, that get gradually more specific. Today, we’re going to be looking at a phylum of invertebrates called arthropods. We’re going to delve into the unique characteristics they have, how they’ve evolved and how they survive today.

Our Weekly Wonder this week is the amazing Panther Chameleon 🦎👀

Their eyes are conical in shape and can rotate and focus independently. They have a long sticky tongue for catching prey that can sometimes be longer than the length of their body. Swipe to find out more! 🌊

Our Spooquarium Weekly Wonder this week has to be the terrifying Green Moray Eel! 👀

These eels employ a unique hunting strategy known as “pharyngeal jaw protrusion.” They can extend their jaw forward and grab prey without having to leave their hiding places in coral reefs or rocky crevices. Swipe to find out more! 🌊
