An early start heading off to the Leconfield Open Spaniel trial at Arundel. First run was in short cover crop in which Dora hunted really well. Towards the end of the run there was a big flush of around 10 pheasants.
The guns shot really well and brought down six pheasants. Dora was sent to pick one which she did while ignoring the others then was sent for another which was also retrieved well.

The other side was brought over to pick another two which were successfully picked from open ground.

Then sent for one in the hedge which was retrieved well. I was then asked to send Dora into the hedge for another bird which she did and that completed my run.

Second run was in a field of mustard in which she hunted really well and must’ve gone a good 200 m without a flush. At the end of the field there was a series of hedges and bushes in which we hunted and she had a good contact flush on a pheasant.

I was taken round the other side of the hedge and given a mark which was in a low cover crop about 40 m away she was sent; while in the crop she put up a pheasant which she sat at the flush. I then pushed back in then she flushed a rabbit, which she watched away then pushed her a bit deeper back and handled into the cover where she picked the pheasant, brought back to hand and that was my second run completed. I couldn’t have asked for any more from that little dog.

I had a great day out yesterday at the Edenbridge and Oxted Agricultural Show competing in the Gundog Team Challenge organised by The South Eastern Gundog Society. Six teams each comprising of one springer, one cocker and two retrievers compete against each other. It’s a great way to showcase our sport and the spectator area is always full. I took Gavin yesterday and we were proud to be part of the winning team 😁🏆. Congratulations also to Jeff Earey and Rita who took the award for best spaniel 😁🐾🐾

Nice bit of cover to hunt next to the bungalow 🐶🐾. We did get a rabbit flush right at the end but the rabbit was camera shy 🐇😁
