Level 2 Certificate of Technical Competence in Pet Sitting
Who is the qualification for?
This qualification is designed for candidates, aged 16+, who are looking for a career within the animal care industry. The candidate will gain practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a competent pet sitter. Pet sitting can involve looking after a wide range of animals to include cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs, through exotics, pet pigs, chickens, sheep and goats for example. This qualification could also allow progress to further learning and training in this area.
Mandatory content covers:
Roles and responsibilities of a professional pet sitter
Legislation and codes of practice
Potential problems, injuries and emergencies
The assessment for this qualification will require the candidate to achieve one practical assessment with oral questioning.
In order to take this qualification the candidate will need to hold a Level 2 qualification in animal related area.
There are no other recognised qualifications for pet sitters at this level, therefore this qualification demonstrates to both employers and public that the candidate has the practical skills and knowledge required of a competent pet sitter.
Structure
The qualification is made up of one unit with four tasks expressed in a standard format.
The recommended guided learning hours are 18 hours.

Task C: Behavioural assessment and signs of health and ill health in an animal
