We're thrilled to share some fantastic news with you – we've achieved Gold accreditation as a Cat-Friendly Practice! 🌟 One of the very few practices in the country and the only first opinion practice in Hertfordshire.
The international cat friendly association ISFM focus is on creating cat-friendly environments and improving medical practices to ensure the best possible outcomes for our feline friends.

What makes us special?
🐈 We have created a separate cats-only reception that is packed with all sorts of accessories to maintain a calm and quiet environment for cats and their owners.

🐈 Our cat ward has been designed to fit the special requirements of cats:
- It is completely separated from the dog ward to minimize noise level
- each unit is spacious and has a separate ventilation system, Light, underfloor heating, and a glass door.

🐈 Calming diffusers are located all across the practice

🐈 Our vets and nurses have been trained to specifically deal with cats in calm and gentle ways.

Want to see more? We welcome our clients to look around the practice, just ask one of our members of the team😊. "

Here at the Village Veterinary Surgery we are passionate about reducing our impact on the environment. Due to this we recycle all of our empty medicine packets, and want to encourage our clients to do this too. So if you have any empty medicine packets, whether it's from your pets medication or your own, we want to invite you to drop them off at our reception so that we can recycle them for you.

Meet Rafa who enjoyed a full meal of raises and had to stay with us for a couple of days until we have made sure that he is safe🐾🐹.
Raisins, along with grapes, can be extremely toxic to dogs. Even small amounts of raisins or grapes can lead to kidney failure.
Rafa is happy again and we hope that he had his lesson ( even though we are not sure🙂).
Many other holiday foods are toxic to pets, including chocolate, onions, garlic, and certain artificial sweeteners. Ensure that your pets don't have access to holiday treats.

Busy day today!

Did you know that we are now offering PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and stem cell therapy for the treatment of arthritis?
PRP is a natural substance that can help to control pain by repairing damaged cartilage and reducing inflammation.

It is an innovative natural treatment with promising great results

Here's a little more about PRP:

PRP is a concentrated solution of platelets, which are blood cells that play a role in healing.
Platelets contain growth factors, which are proteins that can stimulate cell growth and repair.
PRP can be injected into the area of an injury to help speed up healing and reduce inflammation.
The benefits of PRP therapy typically last 6 to 18 months and can be repeated when the pet starts to have discomfort.
The injections are relatively painless, and most dogs/cats experience a significant improvement in their pain and mobility within a few weeks.

Another exciting day today as we installed a device that will help us reduce the waiting time for mass cytology analysis by a specialist from 5-7 days to 2 hours with no extra cost! What a game-changer😃🤩
It also analyses p**p samples and blood smears in-house with results coming instantly using an AI technology
The reports are amazing and can be viewed instantly.

Today we were the first practice in the UK to install a new non invasive scanner which will help differentiate between benign mass and one that needs further investigation. The amazing part is that it only takes a minute to get the results and no needle is needed 🤩

Wait for tomorrow as we have another new technology coming🙂

Meet Bruno who visited us yesterday for his final check-up following a life saving operation.
Bruno came to see us two weeks ago as he was feeling poorly after secretly eating a sharp leather badge attached to his bedding. X-rays and ultrasound scans raised the suspension of the team and he was immediately rushed into surgery.
During the operation, we found that his intestine were perforated and the content started to leak into the abdomen. This is a life-threatening situation where time is critical as the infection spreads quickly. He has had 20cm of his intestine removed and gladly he has made an amazing recovery.( try to find the trouble maker on the x-ray)🙂🐕

How proud does this handsome man pippin look!? 😍 and so he should!! Today this supaw hero of a doggy came into the practice to be a blood donor for another poorly patient. Without his courage (and his pawrents of course) we wouldn’t have been able to provide life saving treatment for another pawfriend so with all our hearts thank you pippin for being a supawhero 🦸‍♀️

To say our hearts are broken and a great sorrow has grown among us is an understatement. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was a true female icon she devoted her life to the country we now know it as. It shocked us as It shocked our nation, we have truly lost the best monarchy we will probably have the privilege to witness. For many of us Her Majesty has been all that we know she has been our rock, our continuity, our support and we sadly have seen the last chapter of her amazing inspiring life come to an end. May you Rest in peace Your Majesty.

Happy rabbit awareness week. Here at village we have a very experienced patient care assistant called Laura Cherry. She has spent many years at a rabbit sanctuary, and has 4 bun buns her self. One of her top tips for rabbit owners is, a rabbit should never be turned on it’s back and instead should be held as pictured below. This is because bunnies stress very easily and can induce trancing. Comment below with your tips tricks and pics of your bun buns 🐰🐰.

It’s January that means it’s time for New Years resolutions. At The Village Vets we are all very aware and concerned for our planet 🌏 and the environmental impact we have.
Have you noticed that there is much more of an ‘in nature’ feel in reception? That’s because we are going GREENER. Within the veterinary and medical industry the amount of single use plastic is at an all time high. We are working along side multiple companies to source more eco suitable products, to reduce our wastage footprint. Our amazing team have found a way to enable us to recycle used and emptied pill blister packs. All you need to do is drop them off to reception when your visiting or collecting medications and we do the rest. It’s really that simple, small steps make the big difference.
