🐾PET INSURANCE🐾

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE INSURE YOUR PETS. We are increasingly being asked to take in cats and dogs with illnesses or injuries which owners cannot afford to cover because their pet is not insured.

We require all our adopted pets to be insured. Each pet is adopted out with 5 weeks free insurance from Agria Pet Insurance - https://www.agriapet.co.uk/

🐾Understanding the Benefit of Pet Insurance

When it comes to our furry friends, their health and well-being are paramount. Yet, unexpected vet bills can place a significant financial strain on pet owners. This is where pet insurance steps in, offering a safety net for those unforeseen expenses.

🐾The essentials of pet insurance

It’s not a legal requirement in the UK to have pet insurance. However, whether or not you need pet insurance comes down to what you can afford. When a pet is suddenly affected by a health problem, it’s sometimes necessary to act fast to prevent the condition from getting worse. That means you may be stuck with emergency vet costs at short notice.

We have many pets surrendered to us because their owners cannot afford veterinary care.

Pet insurance is designed to cover large vet bills that you may not be able to afford at short notice. So, if you worry that you may not be able to cover the cost of emergency treatments for your pet, it might be a good time to weigh your options.

🐾Third-party liability

Essential for accidents caused by pets. You could be left with claims amounting to thousands of pounds if your pet causes an accident, injures someone or causes damage.

🐾Dog insurance

Dog insurance is worth it, especially if you have a younger dog. Buying pet insurance for a puppy will ensure that most of their health problems are covered as long as you keep up with your premiums.

Despite being more expensive, pet insurance for older dogs is still be worth the cost. For example, a policy could cover your dog for conditions that dogs are at greater risk of when they get older, like osteoarthritis, heart problems, or cancer. These are all conditions that should be addressed early and quickly to avoid fast deterioration of your dog’s health.

🐾Cat insurance: A wise move?

Illnesses can be more complicated to treat than injuries, requiring medication and sometimes recurring treatments. If you don’t think you can afford the cost of these treatments, it is wise to buy pet insurance for your cat.

🐾Making pet insurance affordable

The cost of pet insurance depends on the type, age, and health of your pet, as well as your policy options. If you add a higher excess to your policy, you can make your pet insurance more affordable, which in some circumstances can save you money. Be sure to choose an excess that is affordable if you were to make a claim.

🐾The benefits of lifetime cover

Lifetime pet insurance is the most expensive cover but, if bought early and if you’ve managed to snag a good deal for it, it can be worthwhile pet insurance. The great thing about lifetime pet insurance is that you can make repeat claims for the same condition during your pet’s lifetime. So, if your pet is diagnosed with a chronic condition after your policy has been put in place, you can continually use your lifetime pet insurance to pay for treatments, medications, and therapies.

🐾Considering accident only cover

Whether or not accident-only pet insurance is worth it will depend on the health of your pet and what you can afford. While this can be a cheaper policy option than others, it’s very limited and can leave you lacking in cover if your pet gets sick or develops a long-term condition.

🐾Is maximum benefit cover sufficient?

While maximum benefit pet insurance is a bit more expensive compared to the cheaper options, the cover it offers can be very valuable. Since there is no time limit to your cover, you can claim for the same condition several times within your pet’s lifetime, provided you don’t reach your maximum allowance. It also covers most illnesses and injuries aside from pre-existing conditions, so you don’t have to worry about missing out on cover when you need it.

🐾The limitations of time-limited cover

It’s important to mention that most time-limited pet insurance policies will also have a maximum benefit limit for each condition. So, that means that cover can stop for a condition even before your time limit has run out.

🐾Adding optional extras

Some optional extras you may find include:

🐈‍⬛Pet travel insurance: Covers vet bills abroad and holiday cancellations.
🐈‍⬛Pet dental cover: Covers emergency dental treatments.
🐈‍⬛Death benefit: Helps cover the cost of a pet's death.

🐾Insuring pets with pre-existing conditions

Having a pre-existing condition can considerably limit your pet insurance options or drive up the cost. In some cases, the cost of insuring your pet with a pre-existing condition may be too much to justify, but that won’t always be the case.

🐾Finding the right policy

Finding a pet insurance policy that meets your budget can be difficult when there are so many choices out there. Comparison sites make the task easy by allowing you to compare pet insurance quotes all in one convenient place.

When considering pet insurance, it's essential to assess your financial situation, your pet's health, and the level of cover you feel comfortable with.

Remember, the peace of mind that comes from knowing you can afford to care for your pet in any situation is invaluable. Explore your options, compare policies, and choose the insurance that gives you and your pet the security you both deserve.

FOR ADOPTION - NUGGET - HAVANT

6 month old Frenchie boy Nugget arrived to us with a broken elbow. He has had surgery to fix this and has pins and plates in his leg. He’s been signed off by orthopaedics and is ready to find his forever home.

This little boy is an absolute delight. He loves all people, children, dogs and cats. He’s very social. He has one eye which is half blue and is just beautiful.

If you sit down he’s on your lap. He loves cuddles and kisses. He sleeps overnight in his crate. He is happy being left at home for part of the day. He’s playful and affectionate with bags of personality. He particularly likes nipping your slippers whilst they’re on your feet!

Nugget needs to live a relatively horizontal life. This means he needs to be restricted from jumping off the sofa, out of the car or coming down stairs. For this reason we won’t consider rehoming him with children under 10.

He is currently having two 15 minute walks each day and this will increase each week as his strength and stamina improves.

Any adopter will need to understand that insuring a French Bulldog isn’t cheap. Nugget is likely to develop arthritis in his repaired leg as he ages. He’s currently fed a raw diet and has joint supplements.

All this considered, you’ll adopt a dog you can take to a cafe, to the pub, to social events and one that will quietly and happily travel in the car anywhere you choose to go.

Adoption fee £425 which includes;

Vaccines
Vet check
Microchip
Flea & worm treatment
5 weeks insurance with Agria
Post adoption training with an experienced behaviourist

AN UPDATE ON PHOEBE

Further investigations including endoscopy and x rays carried out today show that Phoebe’s cancer has spread internally and into her bones.

There’s nothing more medically that can be done to help. Phoebe will now receive palliative care until she tells us she’s ready to cross rainbow bridge. This might be a few weeks or it might be a few months.

Thank you to everyone who has routed for and supported Phoebe since she arrived with us. We had so hoped that she would find her forever home.

We will make Phoebes remaining time as positive as possible and she will continue to be loved by her amazing foster carer.

FOR ADOPTION - TOMMY - EMSWORTH

Tommy is 6 year old Maltese who has not had a good start in life. He arrived to us with significant dental issues. After surgery he now has fewer teeth but a clean bill of health.

He is a tiny boy of only 3kg.

Tommy is looking for a quiet, adult only home with another small doggy companion. Tommy gets a lot of confidence from being with other dogs.

This sweet boy was an angel at the groomers and at the vets. He is still quite anxious and hand shy with people he doesn’t know. He recently attended a local dog show and did take treats from our volunteers.

He enjoys several short walks each day. He travels well in the car. He sleeps overnight in his crate.

Adoption fee £375 which includes;

Vaccines
Vet check
Microchip
Neutering
Flea & worm treatment
5 weeks insurance with Agria
Post adoption training session with an experienced behaviourist

FOR ADOPTION - TEDDY - SOUTHAMPTON

Meet Teddy- one huge ball of excitable white floof!!

Teddy is a very large, 4 year old neutered male, he is a German Shepherd cross breed (likely crossed with a polar bear 😆 but please don't ask we have no clue what's so ever)

Teddy is not for the faint hearted, he is big and strong and an utter goofball who loves cuddles and lots of attention. He doesn't understand personal space 🤭 and a nice comfy lap to sit on is fair game, you will disappear under a white fluffy cloud of fur, he makes no apologies for his enthusiasm to be a lap dog.

He enjoys his walks, but can be a little over keen to get going at the start, he needs someone used to walking large dogs and who can continue his loose lead walking training, he is improving. He needs his stamina building and currently is happy with a 30 minute walk. He's not really fussy about meeting other dogs when he is outside, he just wants to sniff and walk. He does love water and would enjoy a few walks a week where he could have a splash around.

He enjoys meeting new people as it means he gets loads of attention, he can sometimes be a bit rude if people ignore his glorious looks and he will let them know with a few barks.

He travels well in the car, but prefers the back seat so he can watch the world go by.

He is good at bedtime and will bark if he needs to go to the toilet during the night, but does settle very quickly afterwards.

Teddy is a people's dog rather than a dog's dog, he prefers people over dogs so would suit a home as an only dog, he isn't fussed about playing or interacting with other dogs. But he does love his humans, he will need a home where he is only left for a few hours a day.

He is good with children, but due to his size and bouncy nature we advise living with children over the age of 7.

Teddy is one beautiful loving boy, but needs a home with humans who can care for a large breed dog.
