๐พ A Message from Greenacres Rescue ๐พ
Dear Friends and Supporters,
As we navigate these unprecedented times, we want to take a moment to share the REALITY weโre facing here at Greenacres Rescue. Our commitment to the stray dogs of Pembrokeshire remains unwavering; we take in every stray found, holding them for Pembrokeshire County Council, and we promise to care for each one that isn't claimed, regardless of breed, age, or health condition.
However, as we all know, the number of dogs needing our help can be unpredictable. Some days itโs one other days more than we can realistically cope with. Unfortunately, in recent years, weโve seen figures drop to less than a third of these dogs go home, and many who stay with us arrive with serious health and behavioral challenges, taking months of rehabilitation before they can be rehomed.
In addition to this, we are being approached by councils across the UK, asking for assistance with their unclaimed strays. Unlike Pembrokeshire, many do not have a rescue dedicated to every abandoned dog, and without our help, these dogs risk being euthanised after just seven days. The urgency is palpable, and we feel the weight of responsibility as we strive to help as many as we can.
We are also inundated with requests (20+ a day) from pet owners needing to rehome dogs. Our team works tirelessly to prioritise those in the most desperate situations, ensuring we adhere to our rehoming procedures that protect the animals we care for. It's a challenging balancing actโone that often leaves us feeling overwhelmed and criticised.
We want to remind everyone that we are humans, just a small team dedicated to saving lives. Like you, we have our own commitments and challenges, and we are doing our best to support as many animals as possible. The current situation has stretched us beyond our limits, and it has become increasingly difficult to say yes when the need is so great.
We kindly ask for your understanding and compassion during these trying times. While we wish we could help every single animal, we must also acknowledge the reality of our capacity and resources. We are not magicians; we are a team of passionate individuals working tirelessly to make a difference. Although this post makes reference to dogs, please remember we are also dealing with cats, horses, pigs, goats and many more species just trying to do our best.
To our wonderful supporters, your kindness means the world to us and the dogs in our care. Thank you for standing by us, for your understanding, and for your unwavering support. Together, we can continue to provide hope and a second chance for the animals who rely on us.
With gratitude,
The Greenacres Rescue Team ๐๐ถ
