Last week we discovered The Lounge Wine bar thanks to doing the Brentwood Art Trail !

We saw the signs outside that it was dog friendly so we popped in for a coffee and a bit of cake. It was delicious!

We had such a lovely welcome, and Bert got his own loyalty card! Collect a paw stamp on every visit with your dog and they will get a special bow on their 10th visit! πŸŽ€

We visited on a Monday morning. There were sofas and tables and I believe outside seating too. And the toilets are the best loos ever, I was very impressed!

We hope to do another walk in Ingatestone soon so we'll most definitely be back!

Do let us know if you've visited The Lounge Wine Bar or if you plan on visiting in the comments below 🐾

Yesterday we did the Brentwood Art Trail . You can discover the artwork of over 70 local artists across Brentwood, Shenfield and Ingatestone.

We picked up a map (you can collect them from any of the venues - you'll see the pink and green stickers in the windows) and decided to do it 'back to front' starting from Ingatestone.

Ingatestone is very straight-forward, and apart from the library* we were able to see all of the art on display. It is 1 mile down the High Street and back and took us 1 hour, stopping at The Lounge Wine bar for coffee and cake and a free dog treat!

*Not all locations are dog friendly. Including the The Baytree Shopping Centre so you'll have to leave your furry one at home if you'd like to pop in. I'll actually be in the gallery this Wednesday 12 June from 12 til 4, and Thursday 20 June from 10 til 4, as I am one of the featured artists!

A short drive to Shenfield and we arrived just after 11am so made the most of free on street parking. The artwork here is a little more spaced out than Ingatestone, and as we visited on a Monday, a lot of the venues were closed. (So bear that in mind) My artwork is displayed in Sincerely Yours window - recycled book paper sculptures πŸ˜‰ We walked 1.3 miles.

Finally a short drive to Brentwood to finish the trail. We parked in Chatham Way car park and started at Crown Street. We'd totally lost the number system and instead took a naturally walking route which included popping into Nest Creperie for lunch to avoid the heavy showers. Some great artwork in there and Bert got more free treats!

In fact MOST of the locations ARE dog friendly or you can view the artwork through the windows. Wylie Wellness Centre Brentwood is also on the trail - we stocked up on more treats whilst we were there.

Finally as we headed back down the High Street, we turned into Kings Road and down to Warley Hill - where we spotted another one of my Art Trail pieces I created (punch needle embroidery) with the The Brentwood Belles WI bell

Brentwood was over 3.5 miles, finishing our day at 3pm. So in total approx 5.5 miles in 5 hours, with coffee and lunch breaks!

The art trail is on until the end of June. Brentwood Connected

I apologise it's taken so long to share this walk with you. Hopefully a little less muddy at this time of year. 😊 After Christmas we visited Copford near Colchester.

Refreshments & Toilets: Love Local for coffee and cake or The Alma for pub grub

We parked for free at the village hall. Take the footpath down past the dog play area (v.muddy) and into the woods. Turn R onto the road and follow the gravel path, taking the left fork to head to St Michael's & All Angel's Church - so beautifully decorated for Christmas.

Entry to the church is via a white gate on the left and through the avenue of trees.

Return to the white gate and then straight ahead on the tarmac Road. Turn R at the Y junction and you'll come across The Alma on your right. We stopped in for a coffee just before a down pour. And then ended up staying for lunch and a slightly stronger drink!

Continue your walk passing the Cart Lodge on your left, (It's a grade II listed 17th century timber framed structure) until you reach the village hall on your right.

Make sure to visit Love Local - a gorgeous dog friendly gift shop with local made items, amazing cakes and coffee!

There are a few walks we did before Otis passed away, that I havent shared with you yet... so it's lovely to share these memories with you now. Back in October we visited the 'Petrified Forest' in Mundon.

Sat Nav : CM9 6PB
Mileage : 3 miles
what3words : Forensics.hillsides.grasps (Trees)
Livestock: working farm
Stiles: No
Refreshments & Toilets: We drove to Dandelion & Burdock in Stock for lunch afterwards

We parked for free on the main road just past the pub and turned L at West Chase on St Peters Way. A concrete track takes you down to Vicarage Lane, continue to the farm and follow the track as it bends R and then L to St Mary's Church. It's a 14th century timber framed church and is fascinating- make sure to go inside!

From the back of the church, through the graveyard & follow the footpath straight ahead through the meadow. Turn R & through shrubbery (water to your L) until you reach the petrified Oak trees on your L.

They are protected ancient woodland and you cannot enter the fenced area but worth a visit. Especially of you're after a spooky walk - the crows were well fitted on our visit near Halloween!

We then walked along the field for a bit but turned back as Otis started to get tired. However it is possible to make this a 5 mile loop - see book 'Obscure Essex' page 100.

Otis got a lift back in his K9 Sport Sack - size medium with the block extender inside.

Our friends recently invited us to come with them to Paws on the Wharf , a new trail at Canary Wharf that supports Guide Dogs.

It is a free trail, but you may like to donate Β£2 to Guide Dogs UK - maps / guides are available in various formats.

There are 25 dogs to find, we found most but missed area 5. We had an enjoyable leisurely time exploring, and covered a whopping 4.5 miles!

We got the train to Canary Wharf on the Jubilee Line. Dogs must be carried on the escalators, but there are lifts at Canary Wharf station.
There are plenty of refreshments available in the area and toilets at Adams Plaza. We just grabbed a sandwich and sat in the Crossrail Roof Garden!

Our favourites included Baskerville, Bark to the Future (of course) and Ben, painted by Essex (Brentwood) artist Jill Busby Art and designed by Ben Jonson Primary School

The trail will run until May 17, and then on June 5, the dogs will be auctioned so you could actually own one! Although you can visit in tour own time there is a family fun day on April 12 and a take over day on April 24; with demos, a pop up shop and sighted and sensory tours on both of those special days.

Do let us know and give us a tag if this post has inspired you to follow our paws! 🐾 We can't wait to see your photos!

Last night we headed to Canary Wharf London for their Winter Lights display, which is on, 5pm til 10pm until Saturday January 27

We took the Elizabeth Line and swapped at Whitechapel to Canary Wharf Station. Upon arrival there were exhibition people with free maps for you to collect.

Unfortunately due to the high winds, one of the displays (4) wasn't present. Although one lady asked if Bert was number 4, in his light up collar! 🀭

We really enjoyed working our way around the lights - although photographing them wasn't quite as easy!

The trail is free and dog friendly apart from two exhibits which are indoors.

It was also Otis' first time on the train! He was quite happy to sit on our laps. It was also our first time carrying the boys on an escalator! πŸ˜…

My favourite was Submergence. And I think the boys liked Sign (in full Schnauzerfest orange!) 🧑

Do let us know if you have been to visit or are thinking about going to Canary Wharf - we'd love to know what you thought of it!

LONDON CALLING! We drove to London on Friday evening (no congestion charge) and after visiting the Traffic Light Tree, we went for a walk to see the lights!

We parked for free (after 6.30pm) at Hanover Square (where we were able to use their toilets at the skate park) before taking a stroll.

We even took a packed lunch - this turned out to be a very good idea!

We didn't really have a plan - just followed the pretty lights! The shop windows were really impressive too.

On our way home we passed the Millenium Wheel and got to see them testing the lights for last night/ this morning's display!

Happy New Year everyone! Here's to sharing lots of walking adventures with you in 2024!

Hello πŸ‘‹ It's been a little while and as you can see there's now a new addition to our walks... in the form of a buggy!

We've had a lot happening over the last couple of months with family health and busy work schedules in the lead up to Christmas.

Although we walk daily, twice a day; we've not had any exciting new adventures to share with you ... until now! 😍

These photos were taken on a short trip to Lincoln. Otis has been slowing down and on our last adventure it only took 1.5 miles before he needed me to carry him in his rucksack.

So we thought a buggy might help Otis during our holiday as we were walking more than usual.

Otis took to the buggy very quickly. He would let us know when he wanted to get out and walk and also when he wanted to be chauffeured! πŸ˜…

We chose a buggy with larger wheels to handle rougher terrain and it performed well on its first outing. Allowing Bert to walk and run as normal. And I even had the benefits of not having to carry a bag!

The buggy is there for when we need it. It doesn't mean that Otis needs to be escorted in his chariot every time we go for a walk. It all depends on the situation.

I'd love to hear if you use / used/ have thought about using a dog buggy! And if you have an questions or thoughts?

It's not something we had really thought about. Otis is aging. He's maybe 14 or 15 years old. Bert is 12. They both still have plenty of energy, but in the last few months it's noticeable Otis has less stamina. And sometimes he doesn't quite make the jump onto the sofa and needs a little hand. (He literally just came up to me for a lift whilst I write this!)

Inevitably the boys are going to get older, and that will have an affect on our adventures. But I hope you will still continue to follow our paws outdoors. (I can already see me now throwing in an extra 'buggy friendly' category in my walk summary!)

P.s we did a beautiful walk yesterday which I'll share with you soon!

9 years ago today Otis joined our family. 🧑 Before this he'd spent 5 or 6 years on a puppy farm in Wales as a stud dog.

His story will hopefully explain why we are fundraising for Schnauzerfest

His purpose was to make good looking puppies and make money. He was kept in the most awful conditions and consequently suffered skin conditions, allergies, muscle wastage and dry eye. As well as psychological issues that still remain with him today.

We found him via Facebook and immediately put in an application. After a home visit we were approved and after a little wait, we drove to Sheffield to meet him in his foster home.

Nothing could prepare us. We'd had Bert three years, but apart from the same breed and species, there were no similarities between the two. He recovered from his sores. Bert taught him how to be a dog.

We gave him all the love and comfort he deserved. Eventually, from regular walks he built strength to c**k his leg like Bert!

As much as he has improved and learnt to trust us, it is no surprise that he still fears many things. Strangers. Doorways. Keys. Cables. And unusual noises.

Otis was one of the lucky ones. Some dogs are not so lucky and require serious medical care. And that's what our fundraiser, 'Jurassic Bark' is all about. Raising money to help dogs like Otis.

I am so proud to be a Schnauzerfest Volunteer. My ideas are a little crazy but we have a lot of fun, we've walked a lot of miles and most importantly with your donations we're raising lots of money! So thank you! We really are so grateful. 🧑

Otis and Bert are helping me to fundraise Β£1000 for Schnauzerfest

I will be wearing an inflatable dinosaur outfit, whilst Bert and Otis assist me and a group of friends as we walk around Crystal Palace Dinosaur Park, later this month! πŸ¦•

All donations will go to Schnauzerfest, an amazing charity that raises money to pay for the veterinary care needed by dogs saved from puppy farms & other bad backgrounds.

Supporting Schnauzerfest means vital rescue work is supported and dogs lives are transformed so if you can donate even a very small amount, it will really help a dog in need.

A few weeks ago we visited Moreton near Ongar. Starting at the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, turn right then cross the road to follow the public footpath through the gate. Walk through into the next meadow and at the far end cross the footbridge over the stream on your right. Immediately turn right through a gate into a meadow of horses.

At the end turn right over the bridge towards the Dog & Pickle. Turn left past the White Hart to Gould Close. Follow the public footpath sign in front of you, a new fence separates the path and field. Go through a meadow and over a small bridge and immediately turn right, and walk the field edge to cross a wooden bridge. This will take you to another bridge with metal rails and to the main road.

Turn left and after 100m look for a wide track on the other side of the road by the fishing club. Follow this shady path for 1/3 mile and you will come to a crossroad (the church will be visible in the distance on your right) Follow the wide track back to the church.

The church was built in the 13th and 15th century and the font is 12th century. If you can pop inside its worth a look especially the exposed original medieval painted wall plaster.

Pleshey Castle is a lovely 3 mile walk across open countryside and partial woodland.

Unfortunately you cannot visit the Castle remains unless it is a special open day. So had a good look through the gates and headed back over the moat to continue our walk.

Following the path behind the church, a concrete track we turned left at the sign posted junction to Fitzjohn's Wood.

It was a little wet in places and this was during the summer. So if there has been rain or its autumn / winter make sure you have appropriate footwear. There are some great views across to the church from here.

At the farm we turned left, down a rough track. At the bottom are quails nesting. And a missing footpath sign! The track bears right, but thankfully the farmer pointed us to the correct footpath, straight ahead to the left of the coop, and then diagonally across the bottom of the next field to a bridge. Here we joined the Essex Way and back onto the main road.

We diveryed around Back Lane where there are gorgeous cottages, before returning to the Village Hall.

I have been to Merrymeade Tearooms many times and hadn't realised there was a Country Park opposite! πŸ™ˆ

So one morning in July, we investigated!

It is a mixture of grass and woodland with some boardwalks in wet places. And when we visited, a beautiful field of pink! It was so pretty my photos don't do it justice.

If you time your visit we'll, you can get refreshments at Merrymeade Tea Rooms from 11am til 4pm. (Cash preferred) If you plan ahead you can even book your dog a doggie afternoon tea - you need to give a week's notice. They are Β£12 or Β£10 if you're having an afternoon tea too! Dogs are not allowed inside but there is plenty of outdoor seating (sheltered too)

If you're less organised and just fancy a coffee you can just pop along and there is a little doggy station with water and dog biscuits.

Following our previous posts, we explored Essex Wildlife Trust Crowsheath Community Woodland in Billericay.

Not far from the Hanningfield Nature Discovery Centre (which is not dog friendly) this little woodland is slightly off the beaten track.

There's free parking on the grass and a couple of circle footpaths. We wanted to walk alongside the Reservoir so headed right, through woodland, listening to the sound of the road to guide us.

Follow the steps up to a gate in the fence and carefully cross the road. Head right up the road and just before the Discovery Centre entrance, turn right again to return to the woodland car park.

There was lots of wildlife and it was very much a peaceful walk - we didn't encounter any Livestock but the website does say their are sheep grazing during the summer months.

The gates open 8.30am - 6.30pm April to Sept and 8.30am - 4pm Oct to March.

After our walk around The Wick (see previous post) we visited Heidi’s Coffee & Eatery Runwell for brunch. It's a 9 minute drive.

Unfortunately after a busy weekend there were no pupcakes on the menu but the boys did share a pupaccino!

Heidi's is a dog friendly restaurant- with outdoor seating too. It's very beautifully decorated and the tree is very impressive!

I was a little nervous the dogs may have thought the beautiful blossom tree was real πŸ™ˆ but thankfully they didn't and were happy to sit and relax. (Once I'd laid down my hoodie - I forgot our blanket!)

I had a cheese scone and Jamie had a sausage roll, and 2 cappuccinos and some sweet pastries each later, we were ready to go onto our next walk (coming soon!) they had a varied menu with cooked meals and we saw other visitors enjoying afternoon tea too.

We visited on a Monday morning and it was still fairly busy so if you are planning on a visit, you may wish to book ahead.

We also met some other dog owners and gave them one of our Schnauzerfest paws for our contribution to their campaign

Sat Nav: SS11 7JJ
Parking: Free on street

The Wick Country Park was perfect for a quick walk in this warm weather.

It's a 50 acre park with easy access paths, much of which were in the shade or sheltered by woodland. The full route was a mile - ideal for these two old boys in warm weather.

I can see this would be great in winter too, if you wanted to avoid the mud.

Along our route we spotted three WW2 pillboxes and we enjoyed the boardwalk over the North Benfleet Brook.

Bert had a good run in the long grass and Otis enjoyed looking at the ducks on the lake.

There are no refreshments so afterwards, we headed to Heidi’s Coffee & Eatery Runwell in Runwell - post to follow!

We are currently supporting Schnauzerfest campaign so we wore our best orange and left some orange paws behind for people to find.

I bought Otis' bandana and Bert's matching bowtie from Afrocentric805

Schnauzerfest has been crucial in assisting the funding of veterinary bills, but for far more dogs than anticipated this month. And not just Schnauzers.

If you can please spare a fiver - it really will make a difference.

Only in this last week, thanks to raising awareness of puppy farming, a puppy farm owner has been forced to close down her business because she can't sell the pups. But that's one less puppy farm breeding dogs in terrible conditions.

But this does however mean the unsold pups now need caring for, and need new homes. You'll find more details on Schnauzerfest's FB page.

Thank you 🧑

We returned to RHS Garden Hyde Hall this year for one of their special Walkies evenings from 5.30 - 8pm. It cost us Β£14 - Β£7 per adult.

Again we were very lucky with the beautiful weather. It's so lovely to visit the gardens of an evening as the sun is starting to set. It was very peaceful and appeared to be less busy this time.

Big thank you to the lady that gave us two poo bags - it was the one thing we forgot to bring with us, so immediately asked the first person we saw who was only too happy to oblige.

There were refreshments so you could grab a tea, soft drink or a cheeky prosecco if you fancied. And the sausage rolls were very nice.

We left some paws behind for people to find to help spread the word about Schnauzerfest - do let us know if you have found one! 🐾

There are two more Walkies sessions coming up on June 22 and June 29, please check the RHS Hyde Hall website for more details.
