Opinion: spaniels don’t walk to heel….
We beg to differ 😉
This lovely lad came for a 121 to tackle heel-work and how to settle (that’s definitely not a skill spaniels are born with 😂)
We started it off in the field, we then changed location to proof it a bit more and they went home with the knowledge on how to continue and develop their training on their daily walks and in everyday life 🤩
Do you need help with you heelwork? Send us a message and we can help!
So your agility course this morning has been set up by my most ‘helpful’ dog, Luna 🥰😂
The very lovely Baxter out on his first training walk today 🤩
We worked on heelwork, which started off on the harness, then moved onto the collar; we worked on engaging in eye contact, sitting when I stop at a roadside and responsiveness to his name 😍
Looking forward to seeing him in a couple of days time to take him to a new place to start proofing these behaviours 💪🏻
This lovely Labrador has been kicked out of several training groups and behaviourists because he’s a bit bonkers 🤪
His lovely owner came to me for some help because she has MS and the dog needs some training - to learn how to walk nicely on a lead, recall and a few manners.
I did a home visit to go over the manners and then we did a 121 in the field for heelwork and recall ⭐️
Granted - he is bonkers - but he is now bonkers and can walk nicely on a lead in a grass field with lots of scent around 🤩 he turned up in a harness, Halti and lead and left in one simple lead ☺️
This won’t cure him overnight but definitely a step in the right direction 😍
How well do your dogs know their names? 🐶
Ft. Fern at just 16 weeks 🤩
It may seem silly but does your dog truely know it’s name? Do they look at you when you say it?
Getting them to look at you when they hear their name is half your recall sorted.
If your dog is distracted with something and they hear their name and look up, the focus from that distraction is broken, you now have the dogs attention and getting it to come to you is much easier 😍

Bonnie came today for a heelwork 121 … 🐾
First of all we worked on our heelwork by herself, then we added in a distraction. She’s not massively fussed about other dogs but she loves a ball 🎾
Well I don’t know about you but serious heelwork goals! 💪🏻
Keep up the hard work 😎
During the shoot season, Fern will have to walk to heel whilst the spaniels are out in front hunting those birds out 🦆 what better way to start learning that than out on a nice walk, just learning to be by my side and ignore what the silly spaniels are doing 🐶
I’m starting to teach it now, for 2-3 minutes at a time, so that she doesn’t spend 6/9 months chasing spaniels through the bracken constantly and then all of a sudden change the boundaries and I no longer allow her to do it. If I start now, it will just be developing a behaviour, rather than suddenly moving the goalposts and battling with her constantly! 🙃
Think ahead with your young dogs…what do you want them to do or not do when their older? Start shaping it now so that all it is, is behaviour development as they get older 🥰

💥 House Manners 💥
As a multi dog household, house manners are an absolute MUST in my house but it’s good to have them even with just one dog! All dog training starts in the house.
If your dog can’t do as it’s told in the house, why should it listen out of the house, when there are much more fun things it could be doing to occupy their time 😉
Examples of house manners I have:
✔️ Doorway/Threshold manners - no barging, I go through and then you may follow if I ask
✔️ Food manners - don’t jump up at me when I’m putting your food bowl down, patience, eye contact then you can eat
✔️ Off the sofa - my dogs are allowed on the sofa, but if I say off, it means off until permitted. I live by myself, but if I have guests round, they will want to sit down. If I don’t teach my dogs that it is normal to get off the sofa when told, resource guarding can develop
✔️ Stairway manners - my dogs are allowed upstairs, but not without me (who knows what they can get up to) and they follow me so they don’t barge me out the way/trip me up/cause an accident - same on the way down.
✔️ No jumping up unless asked - jumping up at me for a cuddle is my dogs ultimate reward, but they only do it on cue, they are taught from the moment they get home at 8 weeks, that jumping up just because does not get you attention!
This may all seem like a lot but with consistent training, you get a well mannered family member at home and you can all live in harmony 😍🤩

We all know dog training isn’t easy, but practice and consistency makes perfect.
