Nell is one hectic little handful and has taking a while to mature. This was a dog I never gelled with and didn’t enjoy training. Now through hard work, sticking with what we know, patience and dedication we have finally bonded and got there. I’m absolutely loving this little dog and training her now!
Remember, it’s ok to not always enjoy your training sessions or the dog your training. A bond doesn’t always happen over night, with some dogs it’s quicker and others it can be a bit slower.
With Nell I had to take a big step back to let her grow up and allow her some time before we moved forwards!

If your remember this spaniel that didn’t make the grade to be a police dog.
He was re homed by this lovely couple. They had seen another trainer who said he needed multiple leads to try and keep control along with, he would never be able to go off lead!
We are so happy that they came to us and knew not to give up. He’s turning into the dog they’ve wanted, completely off lead and under control. There’s still a little more training to be done but just look at that progression!

So for all I us in the UK fireworks are a big topic when it comes to our dogs. For so many dog owners it’s a stressful time full of anxiety….. but it doesn’t have to be this way.
Every year on the 5th November and the 31st December the UK erupts in a sea of fireworks and this is never a surprise. We always know the week before and after are going to be load!
The time to plan for New Year’s Eve and next year are now. It needs planning way ahead of the time and instead of fads and plasters, properly counter condition your dogs response.
Dogs are associative learners, so dogs that are scared are associating the bang with a negative experience but if that conditioned response is changed they have a different view on the noise.
I utilise the fireworks to desensitise my own dogs to the noise. Yes our dogs are around shotguns but they aren’t born use to the sound of a shotgun. This has been introduced correctly at a young age so they see it as a positive experience.
So start early ready for New Year’s Eve and next year, start by exposing them to mock firework noises, quite fireworks at a distance and then proper ones.
Make sure you do this responsibly and think of others and their own dogs. There’s no need to have a dog trembling at home next year!

Residential Winslow has now gone home and ready for his life with his family in between London and America.
From the start we had to go back to very basic training such as basic house manners, crate/toilet training, basic obedience. To then allow us to progress forward with his training. We’ve now giving his owners a safe controlled dog, walking on and off lead with out pulling, and recall. These are just some of the elements that we have been working on, for us to go on and explain it all would take a while.
Recall, loose lead walking and neutrality were key when training Winslow as he’ll be living on a ranch in America were dogs are prey to bears, mountain lions etc.
Living in the UK we don’t have to worry about our dogs becoming prey to other wild animals.
We are so happy with his progression and looking forward to seeing him living his best life with his family.
