Fern shows off her enrichment game!
This lovely girl is Fern, she visited us recently with a small cut to her paw. Fortunately she didn't need stitches but we did recommend keeping her paw covered with one of our very fashionable protective boots, to keep the wound dry and clean. We also recomended that Fern's exercise be restricted while she heals, which for a young, bouncy dog can seem like torture! Luckily her big sister Rosie, one of our nursing team, came up with a fantastic game to keep her occupied. She sprinkled some of Fern's favourite kibble into a towel and rolled it up, which meant lots of snuffling to find the tasty treats! This is a great, inexpensive way to keep pets occupied who need to be rested but still need some enrinchment to stop them from getting bored.
Ball throwing dangers for dogs
With some extra care, your dog can still enjoy chasing a ball in moderation. Speak to your vet if you are worried that your dog may be suffering from any joint related illness that could make ball play riskier. π₯

When your tail gives you away........
Little puppy Minnie came in following an small accident at home which required vet Philip to take some x-rays. She was an absolutely amazing pup and stayed so calm during the whole process (although her tail stayed awake the whole time!). She had suffered a small fracture to her shoulder which fortunately is healing really well with rest at home. Can't wait to see you at full puppy bounce strength soon Minnie! β€

Diabetes mellitus is a hormonal disease that often affects our cats π
All cats can suffer from diabetes; however, it is most commonly diagnosed in older and obese cats.
It occurs because there's not enough insulin to keep the blood sugar concentration within normal values or because the cells become resistant to its effect.
For most cats, insulin therapy along with dietary management is the treatment of choice. Though it's a chronic disease, with proper veterinary monitoring, diabetic cats can lead long and happy lives π₯°
