Cat And Dogs I am Cat Donald and I run 'Cat and Dogs' professional dog training. I live in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. This is offered as part of our Progression course.

I am a reward based positive reinforcement trainer and I run dog training classes and 1-2-1's throughout the Calderdale area. Hi I’m Cat, professional dog trainer.



I live here, in this incredible valley, where I have been very happy to work in our community with dogs and their owners for over 10 years. I established Cat and Dogs Professional Dog Training in Hebden Bridge in 2017 and offer a wid

e range of classes as well as 1-2-1 training. We have our own specialist training centre in Salem Mill, where we provide training courses to suit puppies and dogs of all ages and abilities. In addition to the group courses, we offer customised 1-2-1 training sessions, at a time that suits you.



We are very pleased to announce that our club now has Kennel Club Listed Status, offering you the chance to take part in the Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme. In these classes, you and your dog can work towards achieving the nationally-recognised Kennel Club Good Citizen bronze, silver and gold level awards. The Cat and Dogs team are also super excited to be welcoming expert trainer, Victoria Hoole, from Sniff and Trail UK. Attendees will have the option of developing their skills to attend trials which are available up and down the UK. It's going to be great fun! Come along if you fancy trying something new! Well done to these progression dogs recently completed their APDT Good Companion Award levels.

Our progression classes are held on a Saturday morning at our Riverside Site in Walsden.

We are having a break In January and Saturday morning progression classes will restart in February 25.

We will be running the Kennel Club Good Citizen award scheme as well as the APDT Good Companion Awards. I run small group classes so everyone has input from me . Watch the website and social media for details.

Recent graduates from our 6 week puppy programme. So great to see the progression in these clever pups and owners over the 6 week course.

Some of the new skills the pups and owners have learned on the course include:
🐾 Getting their pup back when called
🐾 Walking nicely on a lead
🐾 Giving items up when asked
🐾 Leaving objects
🐾 Fading food lures in training
🐾 Teaching their pup to not jump up
🐾 Body examination of their puppy

In addition I offer support in all topics including how to best handle nipping and biting, playing with your puppy, dog body language, separation training for pup and toilet training.

We have new puppy courses starting in January and February next year. I’m also available for booking 121 visits for you and your pup if you want that extra head start.

Classes were cancelled yesterday due to the weather ☔️ and I missed seeing my lovely clients and dogs. 🐾🐾

We’ve been running adolescent and adult dog courses outside since October. It was a bit risky to move to an outside venue in autumn but it’s been a brilliant move. We’ve been lucky weather wise (apart from yesterday!). We’ve all enjoyed training outdoors and the natural environment gives the dogs and owners different conditions to work with. One observation is having more physical space to work in can help the dogs relax which in turn makes it easier for the owners to train them.

This wonderful lot completed their 6 week courses last Saturday. They completed the Cat and Dogs Professional Dog Training Beginners course and the APDT Foundation level awards. As always a pleasure to work with them all. Hope to see you all back next year for some progression training!

Perfect Saturday training sessions yesterday. Adolescent beginners covered the leave behaviour, recall and lead walking skills. Progression level 2 continued working on the APDT Good Companion Awards. We also started the important life skill of muzzle training our dogs.

What a bunch of cute pups and lovely guardians to start us back to puppy school. Tuesday evening was our first group puppy class at Riverside School, our amazing new venue in Hebden Bridge.

The pups and owners settled well into their new group. Really looking forward to seeing this lovely lot learn, progress and grow in confidence over the 6 weeks.

Sorry to see the labrador pups go! 🥳 They have all done brilliantly and not have the skills to develop into adolescence. Hope to see them all back for our progression course in Sept!

These wonderful dogs and their guardians eachieved the APDT Improver Award this week. They really are a delightful group to work with. I feel so lucky to have such lovely clients and dogs - across the board!

To achieve APDT Improver level they had to show progression in:

- Settle position
- Transition between positions sit, down and stand
- Progression leave behaviour
- Lead walking
- Different techniques in body examination
- Getting in and out of the car
- Recall
- Hand target

All exercises done without the food lure, of course we can reward after the exercise.

Well done you lovely lot. Look forward to more training sessions together.

I’m thrilled with the latest puppy starters in puppy class - all Labrador pups!

All the same breed and all so beautifully individual. ❤️ So far these clever little pups have been having fun :

- Building confidence interacting with novel objects and exploring their environment
- Learning their foundation obedience positions
- Being rewarded for eye contact and checking in with their humans
- Learning good manners to sit in front of humans (instead of jumping)
- Beginning lead walking
0- Humans learning about canine body language

And this is only week 2! So much more training fun to be had with these pups!

This lovely lot completed their adolescent beginners 6 week course this week.

Really lovely guardians and amazing dogs to work with. Great to see these young dogs’ confidence grow over the 6 week course. Very reinforcing for me of course to see them progress and enjoy learning and training!

The dogs and owners can now join the progression course where they will work towards the APDT Good Companion Awards and the KC Good Citizens Awards.

Adolescent and progression classes will start in September 24. I will post start dates on my social media.

Congratulations all ! You are a great bunch to work with making training sessions friendly, fun and super productive. All dogs are making great progress and can now work towards the APDT Improver Award Level.

More adventures of Frankie the Boxer In this session we progressed to Frankie being in our indoor venue with Bramble. Frankie did so well and enjoyed his training session with his owners. Before we went into the venue Frankie saw 2 unknown dogs on the street and looked at them and looked back at this handler. Nice progress Frankie! We took each step of this session at Frankie’s pace and I was looking for signs from Frankie showing he was comfortable and confident to proceed. Both of Frankie’s guardians were in this session and neither of them thought it was possible for Frankie to be indoors with another dog and not over react. Everyone especially Frankie has put so much work into his training. Well done all! Thanks to Linda and Bramble for their assistance again! #hebdenbridgedogtrainer #boxerdog #NotOverreacting #apdtuk

Making great progress with Frankie the Boxer in his latest 121 session. Frankie can be a bit nervous of other dogs and so he can over react to them when they are close by. Within 2 sessions Frankie has been able to be in the same proximity as the other dog, walk towards him and stand calmly in the other dog’s company while the humans have a chat about the weather! By taking each training step at Frankie’s pace he is learning that a new dog isn’t that scary and he doesn’t have to react to them. His owner is becoming more confident and relaxed walking Frankie too. Good work Frankie and owner you are doing really well. Thanks to Bramble and his owner for assisting in their training! My journey as a dog trainer

Dogs have always been in my life and understanding dogs better has been a lifelong passion of mine. I graduated with a B.SC Hons (2:1) in Communication Studies within the Faculty of Behavioural Science from the University of Ulster in 1990. That course served to fire my passion and made me want to gain further knowledge about the communication and behaviour of both animals and humans.

After graduating I spent a good few years working in the media and electronic media fields in print, publishing, marketing and electronic publishing for various organisations. I loved working in these roles, I met and worked with many great people, and have gained valuable experience and skills. However, I knew I had to follow my heart and in 2013 took the plunge, left a well-paid, secure job to start a dog walking business in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.

I’m always driven to learn more about dog behaviour and communication so I decided to take a dog trainer instructors course and in 2017 I gained my Certificate as a Dog Trainer Instructor from the Association of Pet Dog Trainers UK (http://www.apdt.co.uk). I adhere to the APDT UK Code of Practice (https://apdt.co.uk/code-of-practice-apdt/). I have completed both the foundation and advanced courses they run. I have been working in the dog training field for 4 years and am now running my own basic obedience and life skills dog training classes in Hebden Bridge. As well as running classes I also do 1-2-1 home visits for dogs that can’t make it to class for whatever reason.
