Beano's Ballpark: Useful Information

All information is available on our website: www.beanosballpark.co.uk, together with maps & pictures. What it’s all about

Have trouble finding a safe place to train, walk or play with your dog? Do you ever wish that you had your own field for off-lead, hassle-free exercise? Well, Beano’s Ballpark might be just what you’re looking for. Not only are there tw

o beautifully mowed, fenced fields to choose from, but also, a separate fenced training area

The Fields: The Ballpark, (2.5 acres) & The Bolthole, (1.5 acres) are at opposite ends of our 21 acre farm, with separate access & can be hired by individuals with their dogs, for one hour sessions. During that time, you could practice
skills, work on training, or just throw a ball around, enjoy the view & have a good time, without someone else’s dog ruining your fun! Both fields are fully fenced & gated with approximately 4' lamb fencing & higher Cornish hedges behind. There are stunning moorland views from each field & benches & tables for your use, so that you can bring a picnic. You may drive straight into both the fields, (weather permitting!) We have toilets on site for your use. Cost:

Initial & ‘Pay As You Go’ sessions: £10 per hour

Beano's 'Mates Rates': £9 hour.
4 sessions paid in advance for £36
These sessions must be booked & used within one calendar month of purchase date

All prices include exclusive use of the field, for up to 3 dogs. Additional dogs £1 extra, per dog, to a maximum of 6 dogs at any time, (unless by prior arrangement). Shared bookings, (ie: extra car or dogs from a different household): £3 extra
Payments can be made in cash, or in advance, by bank transfer

How do I book? The fields are available for hire, most days, from 8am to dusk. To book a field, please contact us by telephone: (01326 340627 or 07813 984662), email, or via Facebook, to arrange. Wherever possible, we advise that you book at least 24 hours in advance for a session. Alternatively, you can phone between 8.30 & 9.30 am, to see if there are any slots available for that day. For those who do not wish to come in bad weather, we would prefer you to ring on the day, rather than to book in advance & then fail to arrive. The booking is by the hour, with 50 minutes use of the field & 5 minutes each end for arrival & departure. Please ensure that you do not arrive early, or leave late, in order not to compromise other field users. Our farm is a good half-mile from the road, with our fields surrounding the house. No other dogs will be allowed in the field during your hire, but please be aware that a footpath runs within sight of the field boundaries, so please ensure that your dogs remain either in the fenced field, or on lead in other areas, at all times. We allow enough time between bookings, that you will not encounter other field users, or their dogs, but please ensure that you don’t arrive early or leave late, to avoid this happening. Whilst the field is completely fenced, we cannot ensure complete security for every dog. We are happy for you to come & visit in advance to have a look at the facility & assess its suitability for your needs. We do not use shared water or toys, for hygiene reasons, so please bring your own with you. If you’ve forgotten anything though, please do feel free to ask! We request that field users pick up dog waste, cigarette butts, bits of broken or chewed toys, litter etc & take it with you off-site. Most people are very good about this & our fields are very clean, with no hazards. We check the fields several times a day with our two terriers, who make excellent dog poo monitors, but if you come across a poo that someone might have missed, you’ll get extra points if you bag that too! First Visit? For initial sessions, please download the Beano's Ballpark Registration Form attached here, complete it & bring it with you. We will meet you on arrival & show you around. Please bring water, treats, favourite toys &, of course, poo bags! When you arrive, please leave your dogs in your vehicle while you book in. Terms & Conditions

All bookings are subject to the terms & conditions on the Registration Form. Having been informed of these conditions, it is assumed that you, (& all members of your party), accept them if you make a booking. Directions

Beano’s Ballpark is situated down a quiet farm track, (with passing places!), in the hamlet of Halwin: between Porkellis & Carnkie. Sat Nav: We would strongly advise against using Sat Nav, as you might to end up in some very peculiar places! Instead, any of the following are more likely to get you here. Google Maps: Just type in Beano’s Ballpark, TR13 0PD for map & directions. Prefer it the old-fashioned way? For written instructions & maps, please see our printed directions below or on www.beanosballpark.co.uk

On the right track? Find Halwin School. Immediately opposite the school is a track through fields, with double gates. This is our neighbours’ private track, so please don’t go down it! Beside the school is the School House & immediately opposite this, is a farm track with a sign saying Higher Dacum Farm

Go down that track, past the first farm, (which is not us) & keep going until you see a postbox with our logo on it. If you go down the drive a little way & park in the first field you find on the right, we will come & find you & show you around

Please feel free to give us a ring if there's anything else you'd like to know. Looking forward to seeing you,

Dee & Cath

First venture with us out into the big wide world: -.what better place than Helston Boating Lake... In this getting to know you phase, we have currently have no idea of what she knows, enjoys or finds worrying.
Soon discovered that she likes to leap onto all the benches!..
She took a fairly keen interest in the birds, but didn't end up in the lake!
Loves people and is a very enthusiastic greeter!.
She can walk and bounce on her hind legs at the same time, whilst propelling forward: hopefully we'll catch that in a video! We've yet to find out how she feels about other dogs.. one thing is for sure, we're not getting much done!

Today we went off to Pilates.... Tilly and Cath get to enjoy the garden, whilst Dee has to do all the hard work! 😂 Then we went off to Piatto for lunch, cake and cups of tea.... Tilly decided to say 'hi' to everyone in a very enthusiastic manner! She loves people, we've yet to discover how she feels about dogs.... it's quite some steep learning curve... She's very good at tracking where Dee was!

We have good news! On returning from the vets: Happy, relieved and delighted that the X-rays showed nothing of concern and we can start having some fun. 😁 Thank you to all of you who have been concerned and worried about us all. As you can see from the video, we were concerned about the back left leg.
The vets advised that Tilly would be drowsy and need love and a warm place to be whilst she recovered from the procedure. Finally we were going to get some food! With a sleeping Tilly on the kitchen floor, Cath turned her back for a split second, leaving the room briefly, only to catch Tilly staring gulping down a rather lovely hummus, pepper and red onion sandwich that she leapt up and removed from the kitchen counter! Cath sprang into action (screaming) and managed to retrieve most of it. Tilly was obviously hungry! At least the vets were still open for a quick panic call! Tilly may look cute, like butter wouldn't melt, but she's a wild child.

Anyone else spot this interesting cloud this morning?.... We're up really early as Tilly has to go in to the vets today for some X-rays.... Wish us luck.

Beautiful sunset this evening. It's been one crazy week: there are lots of tales to tell, if we only had the time! It's been like having a toddler arrive with no instruction manual! So if we appear not to be as efficient as we usually are, blame Tilly, she's new to the management role! If we seem not to have noticed you, just give us a nudge!

We've news!..... You know how sometimes on fb, you get 'a people you may know' suggestion....... ?
Well Helen Freeman the rep for the South Somerset/West Dorset area Border Terrier Welfare UK came up.... so Cath sent her a message....Helen, then contacted the Cornwall rep, Trudi Baird. to see if she knew who we were! This was on Saturday 2nd of November. We got a message straight back saying that she had a two year old girl coming in the following day!.... Keen to see the little one into a home and not left in kennels on fireworks night .... the race was on to get her to us!.... Huge thanks to everyone: to the taxi lady who drove Tilly to Exeter and Trudi who raced off to collect her from there... It's been quite a few days! Welcome home to Beano's, Tilly! Not many fireworks here... but the skies have lit up for us! She's an absolute star!

We don't normally post about rehoming dogs, but we had this about a local dog, that might be of interest.

We are seeking a forever home for Myla, a 17 month old female 100% blue merle border collie. Myla is a gorgeous little lady, great with people, and loves a good cuddle. She would be very happy simply as a pet, but she would also thrive with someone who wanted to do agility or flyball with her. She is a very fast learner and very eager to please.

We bred Myla, along with seven other pups, and still have mum. Myla was sold as a pup, but unfortunately due to a change in the owners circumstances she has been returned to breeder.

We are looking for a Cornwall based home for her, experienced collie owners, adult only household, lots of outdoor space (does not need to be dog proof), with one or more confident dogs.

Behavioural notes:

Loves meeting new people and very friendly. Great in the car. House trained. Well trained to all of the standard commands.
Walks well on the lead. Great off the lead, but can occasionally be a bit cheeky about going back on the lead, but this is resolving quickly.
She loves other dogs, and is very playful with them.
She can be reactive to sounds that she is not familiar with, and to powered items such as blenders, drills etc. Also to bicycles and motor bikes. We are working on improving this, and she makes very fast progress, but ongoing work to reassure her will be needed. This is why we are seeking someone experienced with collies.
She is not aggressive, and is good around young children, but an adult only home where she can be the centre of attention is required. Children visiting the home is fine.
She loves nothing more than a cuddle on the sofa, and prefers to sleep with other dogs, so we are looking for a home that allows for that.
Needs a crate free home, and an owner that is either at home during the day or can take her to work with them. Can be left for short periods without any problems.
She has no known health problems, is fully up to date on vaccinations, flea and worm treatments. She is not currently spayed as she has not had her second season yet, but we would want an agreement that she would be spayed.

Please note that we will want to spend considerable time with you and Myla, including visiting your home, meeting all members of the household (2 and 4 legged) before rehoming to ensure it is the right fit.
