Meet Indie who believe it or not is 13 years old. She has regular veterinary Physiotherapy to keep her best shape possible on her senior years however Indie doesn’t show any signs of slowing down just yet.

During our session, a full gait analysis alongside a physical exam is carried out to assess if niggles are starting to appear that need to be addressed. We then carry out our treatment followed by some exercises to help maintain and improve Indie’s mobility.

Finally we discus our homework to be continued in between our sessions. This usually consists of exercises, stretches, range of motion exercises and home modifications if required.

I think we can all agree if we age like Indie, we will all be very pleased 😌

Trigger warning ** Pet loss and grief **

Through working as a veterinary physiotherapist and a vet nurse I often deal with end of life care for pets. It is such a difficult time for owners and can be very daunting.

I am always here to support you and your family through these times, whether that’s a telephone conversation, an exchange in text messages or a face to face visit.

Never feel you are alone and even if you can not find the words to say I can point you in the right direction to get the support you need 🐾

Just a quick message to say a massive thank you for all of your ongoing support and sorry for lack of social media posts. I am a one woman band and sometimes there is just not enough hours in the day to keep up.

I am currently booking 3-4weeks in advance at the moment so please book early to avoid disappointment.

As some of you are aware I now have a little treatment room at my house which I am trying to utilise as much as possible. I am hoping to cut down on my travel time so I can offer more appointments to you all and be flexible around your timings. I am still happy to offer home visits but a small travel fee maybe applied if you are outside of my travel zone and appointment times maybe limited.

Thank you all again for trusting me with your pets. I am always so grateful to be apart of there journey 🐾

Meet Rumour who is a 6 year old agility dog who is a regular here at Active Paws Veterinary Physiotherapy to help him keep on tip top condition.

Rumour has a fitness MOT where we check his gait movement, ensure all of his joints move correctly and are pain free and we check his soft tissue structures for any pain, restrictions and muscle weakness / unbalanced. We also discuss if Rumour is struggling with anything or is there any area they would like to particular improve on in his performance.

Meet Zoe a 14 -year-old poodle who has always lived life to the full, from running around an agility course, swimming and now enjoying competing in hoopers.

At a young age Zoe sub-stained an injury to her left hind leg resulting in having to have major surgery to remove part of her hip joint. Zoe’s owner has done an amazing job at keeping Zoe fit and well over the years.

Zoe loves her sessions at Active Paws and always put her all into it, especially when it comes to her exercises.

⭐️Oscar’s Story ⭐️

Oscar was referred for Physiotherapy after injuring his cranial cruciate ligament after running on the beach. He was unable to weight bare through his leg and really struggled with day to day activities.

A full assessment was carried out and treatment plan was put in place. We used therapeutic ultrasound to help speed up healing and increase strength and flexibility in the scar tissue. As Oscar was having to use his other hind limb more we made sure all compensatory issues were addressed.

Therapeutic exercises played a key role in Oscar’s recovery. Gradually building up his exercises not only to rebuild Oscar’s muscle strength but to also rebuild his confidence in using his injured leg.

We are pleased to say Oscar made a full recovery and is back to running on the beach and playing with his ball. 🥎

Stairs

⚠️ Stairs can be a real hazzard for older dogs and dogs with mobility issues. I often recommend to stop free access to stairs and limit the amount of times they are allowed to go up and down.

🎄Day 23 🎄

The importance of a warm up and cool down before any strenuous exercise.

Warm up and cool down are so important in our dog’s mobility health. Using simple techniques such as a lead walk before being let off to bomb around, doing some simple sit to stand, down to stands, paw giving, backwards walking and also static and dynamic stretches can all be incorporated into your warm up and cool down.
