Wyfold Riding for the Disabled

We are a Riding for the Disabled centre that provides riding and driving lessons to disabled people.

We run 6 days a week in the mornings set in the beautiful grounds of the Wyfold Estate.

Haircut day for Poppy today! Her sweetich has become a little bit unmanageable over the last few weeks so today she had a visit from our vets to give her some sedation so we could tackle her mane and legs. By clipping the hair we can now get lotions and potions into the areas of her body that are being affected by the sweet itch and treat them properly.

Our newest recruits Elsie and Maggie had their first proper look at the rda equipment today. They both took it very much in their stride and seemed very happy with themselves. Looking forward to seeing these two progress over the next few weeks!

It was worm count and tapeworm testing today while we sweltered in another day of hot weather! The ponies are on a regular testing schedule to make sure that they are kept healthy and worm free. This is especially important with the arrival of our 2 wonderful new ponies to make sure that we keep on top of our super low worm burden that the herd has as the lower the better! Thankfully have all the kit we need to keep on top of this and we will get the results super fast so we can deal with any worms that have occurred quickly. We are all looking forward to the cooler days over the next few days and hopefully all our lessons can get back to normal again!

Preparation for the 2025 RDA National Champs is well underway at Team Wyfold!

We are borrowing some lovely ponies from Lowlands Equestrian Centre to take some stress of our own wonderful horse team. So on Wednesday we headed up to RDA National Office to practice the dressage on our riders mounts for the real deal!

Keep an eye on our socials to follow the journey and excitement of the National Championships! This is a massive achievement for our riders and we can’t wait to watch them compete!

We are super excited to introduce not one but two new ponies to the Wyfold herd this weekend!! Elsie on the left joined us yesterday and Maggie earlier in the week. We are super excited about these two girls and can’t wait to get started in introducing them to the world of Rda work!

It’s super hot here today so we have been hosing the ponies down after a gentle walk this morning. Wonder how many will join Pluto in turning brown rather than coloured!

We are unbelievably proud of our coach Katy Lake for winning this award. It has been such a privilege to watch her grow as a coach and be a part of her journey. Well done Katy Lake 🎉🎉

Massive congratulations to our wonderful driving team and to Archie on the wonderful news that he has passed his driving assessment! We are slightly closer to getting back to being able to offer carriage driving lessons which we are very excited about!

Following on from our regionals success we have more good news to share!
A number of our volunteers have been nominated and short listed for the annual 2025 awards!
⭐️ Adrienne has been shortlisted for coach mentor of the year!
⭐️ Diane has been short listed for coach mentor of the year and the extra mile award!
⭐️Katy has been short listed for the young coach of the year award!
⭐️ Kim was nominated for the volunteer of the year award!

Wow what an amazing day we had at the regional competition. We took 7 riders and 3 ponies the most we have for years. Everyone had a wonderful time and really enjoyed themselves with everyone getting placed in their classes. Special mention to Fiona, Sky, Lottie and Lucas who have all qualified to the national championships in July. An absolute massive thank you to the amazing team that was behind this wonderful day who all worked tirelessly to make it happen and an even bigger thanks to our wonderful ponies Pluto, Wynne and Darcey who tried their hearts out for their riders.

Huge thanks to Richard Mott, a director from the John Ackroyd Charitable Trust, who came to see us in action today in the sunshine. Not only did he manage to repair a gate on his visit, but he also handed over a whopping cheque of £3,000. It’s the generosity of organisations like this that keep us afloat.

Thank you to everyone who came to our fun day on Saturday. It was lovely to see everyone and the weather was wonderful. Thanks to you all we raised just over £2,300 which is amazing! We hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as we did!
