Another grooming adaptation story! 💕
Little Marley was not well cared for before he was found and adopted by his lovely Mum and Dad 🥺 He’s two years old and being a rescue, we simply don’t know a lot about his background and history with grooming 🤔
It’s my job to work with Marley, trial equipment and noises to investigate what he finds easy and what he struggles with!
Mum and Dad said loud noises are a struggle for him, so Marley had a trim and tidy up before the bath just in case he didn’t like the dryer! ✂️🌬️
He was an absolute star being bathed but the dryer was just a bit too loud for him! Instead, he had a real good towel dry and ran around playing games and chasing treats to help him dry off! 🐾
Adapting the groom to the dogs behaviour and needs is important to set them up for future success in the salon 💕
There is no ‘quick fix’ for fears and anxiety in dogs. It’ll take some time, but with understanding, positive reinforcement and a gentle approach, one day Marley may be able to combat his fears! And until then? Playtime towel-dry it is! 🥰

Me and salty did something a little bit different for his grooming session. Salty had his entire groom… in the bathtub! 😮
It may sound a bit bizarre, but hear me out with this one! Salty is a one year old spaniel and he came to me for his first ever professional groom 🥰
Not being familiar with the process meant he was a bit scared being up high on the table, so we thought we’d try something a bit different!
Having the walls of the bath around him made him feel a lot more secure and calmer than being in full view on the table. So we bathed, dried and did a trim and tidy all in the bath tub. And he did so so well! 🥹
I always say the grooming process is unique for each dog! Adapting the groom to the dog’s needs is important to ensure the groom goes well and causes the least amount of stress possible. And if Salty needs his groom to be completed in a bathtub to feel safe, then so be it! 🥰
I had a visit from Luna the happy Husky today… but she left something behind! 🤔👇🏻
(It was a small dog-sized amount of undercoat. Good job she doesn’t need it!)

Can dogs have dreams? 💤
Research has found dogs experience REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, just like humans, indicating that they likely dream!
You may notice your dog twitching, whimpering, growling or even "running" in their sleep, which could be signs of dreaming! 🥰
Just remember not to wake them up mid dream! You won't hurt them but you could startle them or (even worse) make them a bit grumpy for disturbing their sleep. 💔 After all, no one wants to be woken up in the middle of a great sleep, why would dogs be any different!

There may be some rainy downpours and terribly unseasonable weather, but me and the dogs are still trying to make the most of the summer! Hopefully the washouts aren't changing your summer plans too much! 🐶
✨ It's not always easy being told no, particularly when it comes to your dog's health. However, when it comes to dental care, if your Emmi-pet provider tells you no they mean it! ✨
😱 Some teeth are too badly damaged to consider Emmi-pet treatment. In most cases of heavy tartar build-up, you have no idea what may be lurking underneath. There could be fractures, exposed nerves, or the tartar may even be the only thing stopping the tooth from falling out!
🦷 This little lad had to have 5 teeth removed, and even I was amazed at the work the vets managed to do saving his canines! If your Emmi-pet provider isn't sure about your dog's teeth and recommends a vet check-up, please listen to them!
🚩 Do you know your dog breeder red flags? 🚩
Getting a puppy can be a very exciting time, but don't let the cute little faces persuade you if something feels off! Puppies that are not correctly or responsibly bred are more likely to develop health and behaviour problems later in life 😔
❓Did you know some breeders even dye the puppies a different and more in-demand colour to make more money❓
Here are just some of the red flags to look for:
❌ They won't let you see the mum with the pups
❌ They tell you the puppy should have it's first groom at 7 months old
❌ The litter are living in poor conditions
❌ They encourage you to take the puppy home when it's younger than 8 weeks old
❌ They don't teach you the proper coat care for the breed
❌ They don't throughly question you and make sure you're suitable to own a dog
❌ They can't show you any vet records, microchip records or other documentation
There are many more red flags to look out for, so be vigilant! If you're not sure if they seem legitimate, have a chat with your vet or other pet industry professionals to seek a second opinion.
