A huge welcome to Buddy, who is 9 weeks old, to the grooming family. Buddy is Rolo's new companion after Bubbles passed away last year.

Buddy is so small compared to Rolo but he will be the same size one day. We can't wait to see him grow and mature.

It's with great sadness that Bubbles has passed away at 3 years old :( he will be hugely missed and he will always have a special place in Happy Meadows Small Animal Grooming & Care.

Say hello to Bubbles and Rolo who are 9 week old alpaca guinea pigs who came to see us today for their first nail clipping.

They were perfect wriggly customers who were very talkative but so well behaved.

Only a couple of male puppies (brown, black and Black&White) left in this beautiful litter. Mum and dad are absolutely gorgeous and are very loving.
All the puppies have a lovely temperament.

For all of those who are considering getting a rabbit, please check out the The Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund for the MINIMUM requirement for rabbit housing.
Would you put your dog in a small cage all day?

Today these two adorable guinea pigs, Cookie and Lucky, went home after their 2 week stay with us. They have been super fun to watch and both had a complimentary nail trip and one had a little trim (can you guess which one).

Small animal boarding available throughout the year, so you know your pets are well looked after while you are away.

Cookie and Lucky have come to stay with us for two weeks and look how adorable they are.
Cookie is 4 1/2 years old and Lucky is 3 and are still loving cuddles, treats and veggies.

We are now in the season where rabbits can get something called Fly Strike.

What is flystrike?
Flystrike (also known as myasis) is a serious condition in rabbits caused by flies laying eggs on their body. These eggs hatch out into maggots that feed on your rabbit's skin. Sadly, flystrike is often fatal within 24 hours.

What causes flystrike?
Flies are attracted to warm, damp areas that are soiled with waste and urine, usually around a rabbit’s bottom.

For those who think getting a rabbit this Easter will be a nice gift for their kids.... STOP!
A rabbit needs A LOT of care and space. The cage in the picture or similar is NOT suitable and does not comply with The Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund standards.

This WAS a matt under the chin of a netherland dwarf rabbit. It might not look a lot but it was tight to his skin and most likely causing pain. They cannot be brushed out as this can cause bruising so they need to be cut out very carefully.

NEVER get a matt wet as this tightens it causing more pain.

With the moult season in full swing now is the time for your small pet to see a groomer to remove dead hair, clean scent glands and bottoms, trim nails and apply Rear Guard to prevent flys laying eggs in dirty fur.

With Spring around the corner, small animals are starting their moulting cycle. Regular grooming is recommended to avoid matting.
I am now taking weekday bookings for small animal grooms and nail trimmings.

Did you know....?
Rabbit manure has four times more nutrients than cow or horse manure and is twice as rich as chicken manure. Cow, horse and chicken manure are considered “hot” and need to be composted (well-rotted) to use as fertilizers. ... Rabbit manure is organic matter and improves poor soil structure, drainage and moisture retention.

This time of year its essential to keep your pet groomed as its moulting season. Rabbits can get something called GI Stasis from swallowing too much hair when grooming. This can be fatal.

If you are struggling to groom your pet, let me help. I can groom, trim and cut nails so your pet stays healthy.

We all know life can get in the way so if you are struggling to pay, then let me know. I offer free grooms to those who need it the most.
