After all the fun of their (almost) 1st birthday meet on Saturday, Pepper decided to follow suit with her 3 sisters and came into season yesterday! She is the last of the girls from her litter.

Washable pants on their way and now to make sure Boris isn’t left unattended with her, as we know what a naughty boy he is..!! 🐾🧡

Pepper 🐾🧡 is on the way to see her brothers and sisters for their first birthday get together! We can’t wait to see Indie, Bonnie, Walter & Nico. Sadly it’s a bit far for Delilah and her beautiful sister Bella to join us so we plan to visit them really soon to ensure we stay in touch with our almost keeper! 🐾❤️

This weekend just gone saw Pepper and the pups turn 27 weeks old! They will always be my canine babies and I’m loving the updates, visits and cuddles that I’m privileged enough to be receiving! Pepper 🐾🧡 visited the De Koffie Pot with Lee and I yesterday (Sunday) and did well minding her own business when other dogs were strolling round the place! Still room for improvement in terms of her nervous yapping but I’m confident we’ll get there. Today we had a wonderful update from Delilah’s 🐾❤️ new family who shared pictures, videos and a summary of how well she’s settled in. My heart bursts with happiness for her and while I’m still missing her so, so much, I know that she is loved and living a wonderful life with her new sister, Bella, and that means the world to me! Seeing Indie 🐾💖 Walter 🐾💙 and Nico 🐾💛 this past week had been wonderful and I just know that Bonnie 🐾💙 will be having so much fun with her family right now. Sometimes it’s important to reflect on the things that make us smile and thinking about the journey that Gracie & Boris’ pups are on is definitely something that makes me happy 😊 It’s back to work for me tomorrow 😢 but the pups still have the rest of the Butler clan to keep them occupied! I think it’s high time for me to give up this working malarkey and stay at home with my pups for good! 😉 To finish off with, here’s a few picture of the Butler pups, during and after their walk tonight! 🙈😂

On International Dog Day, it would be sheer madness if I didn’t make a post about these 3! 🐾💜🐾💙🐾🧡🐾 They’re the love of our lives and we just adore everything about them! Gracie, Boris and Pepper, you really are the most wonderful pooches we could ask for.
Of course, there are a number of others who we feel the same love for, as you already know! Delilah 🐾❤️, Nico 🐾💛, Walter 🐾💙, Indie 🐾💖 and Bonnie 🐾💙, we think you’re pretty awesome, too! It’s been so lovely seeing some of the pups this week, as well as their owners 😉 - we feel blessed to call you our friends. Getting to keep in touch with you and watch the puppies grow is such a privilege…thank you from the bottom of our hearts
Tomorrow marks the first whole week that Delilah has spent with her new family, too! We hope she’s settling in well and enjoying her new life up in Yorkshire 🥰 From the updates we’ve received so far, she certainly looks content in her new surroundings, which is everything we could wish for. Until tomorrow, for the obligatory weekly update…!! Night night x

Gracie 🐾💜 & Boris 🐾💙 are smelling beautifully and looking divine after a lovely groom with Teds Trims ☺️
In a few weeks, Pepper 🐾🧡 will get her pamper session and no doubt she will look and smell just as good! Thank you to the lovely Yazmine for doing such a great job with them (the bows lasted a couple of minutes, Yaz, before they were scratched off!) 🙄😂

This weekend saw the pups turn 6 months old and what a weekend it’s been! Although our hearts break a little (well, maybe a lot!) we are also so pleased that our most beautiful Delilah 🐾❤️ has found her forever home with a wonderful family who, amongst the many animals on their small holding, also have a 2 year old labradoodle for her to play and have fun with. Waving goodbye is never easy, so we hope that we will stay in touch with Delilah’s new family as we do with the rest of our puppy families 🥰 And on that note..!! We ended the day by making an impromptu visit to see Walter 🐾💙 and Nico 🐾💛 (and of course their most wonderful owners!) which really did cheer us all up! For now, for the Butlers, it’s a case of 3 being the magic number and we hope that Pepper 🐾🧡 doesn’t miss her sister too much in the coming days. Lots of fuss and treats for them all should help, though 😉 Night night for now x

A day late posting but these little rascals are now 24 weeks old! 🥰
The pups had a great time at puppy training on Saturday, impressing the trainer with their ability to keep their front paws on the stool while moving around at human mum/dad’s heel. We really are so proud of these little puppers! Delilah 🐾❤️ is not as motivate by food as Pepper 🐾🧡 is, but thats not to say that she won’t conform for the trade of a high value snack! Both pups now wait at our feet in the morning, as their dad has done for quite some time, waiting for a handful of cheerios or cornflakes 🙄 (we can thank human Dad for this!!) I hope you enjoy the photo updates and please remember to share Delilah’s details with anyone suitable as a forever home for her - albeit they will need to be very, very good! ☺️

Today we managed the ‘sit, stay, smile for the camera’ command ☺️ Walking them together on my own today and there were some magic moments of tandem loose-lead walking, combined with a more than equal measure of (mostly) Delilah pulling with all her might. However, I must say, I was very impressed that I:

1) managed to pick up the poo without getting it on me (whilst keeping good control of 🐾❤️ and 🐾🧡)
2) allowed them both to run up the hill free and they both came back when I called them 😃
3) that we almost (but not quite) escaped the downpour that pretty much finished when we got back home! 🙄

Our beautiful Macy-Mae with Pepper 🐾🧡 and Delilah 🐾❤️ and a collection of Delilah waiting patiently for some roast chicken at teatime!
The pups are 23 weeks old today and full of mischief!
Yesterday we attended puppy training class 4 of 6 and they both did so well, with the trainer complimenting us on how well they behave whilst together, as sometimes littermates don’t do well in the same class. Great listening, great recall and great work practising the ‘down’ command without us using body language or pointing. Super proud of these two! 🥰

You could almost be tricked into thinking this is Delilah but in actual fact it’s Bonnie, who left us around 10 weeks ago to live with her forever family! 😍
Look at how proud she looks wearing her rosette, after graduating from puppy training class! Her owners shared that she’s doing so well with her recall, and loves walking off lead. The children in the family are totally in love with her and enjoy holding her lead on their walks to school! It’s everything and more that I could have hoped for 🥰 Receiving updates from the puppies’ families really makes my day. Enjoy your holiday, Bonnie, and keep up the good work! 🐾💙💖

We are 22 weeks old! 🐾❤️🧡

Rounding up this week, I can confirm that the puppies have been practising their recall and are doing so well, given that they’re only 3 weeks into their official training! Both Pepper 🐾🧡 and Delilah 🐾❤️ have been enjoying their goats milk (courtesy of Golden Valley Goats in Madley!) and if Gracie and Boris are lucky they get a small bowl too! ☺️

This week we will start to learn the basics of whistle training (see my earlier post!) and continue with the puppy training classes on Saturday.

In other news, this evening I’ve received a lovely update from the owners of the most beautiful ‘Miss Light Blue’ puppy, who is now ‘Miss Pink’ and called Bonnie! Pictures to follow!

If you can find the time to join this *free* training that starts tomorrow, I’m sure you’ll reap the rewards once the training is embedded with your puppies and older dogs. 👍

Tomorrow, we begin the five days of “Stop Whistle” exercises, and before we get started, we wanted to pop on and explain a few points…...

What do you need for this week’s training?

1) Whistle
2) Mat/placeboard
3) Treats
4) Dog 😊

We both use 210 ½ whistle’s which are readily available on the internet.

The use of a placeboard is not crucial, we use them to give the dog some extra clarity when teaching a new exercise that requires a “position” or “place”, that way the dog has something to aim for, however if you do not have a placeboard a door mat or piece of carpet will do!

When it comes to dog treats, we use Fish4Dogs range, not only are they always in a handy size, but the dogs also LOVE them, and they really motivate them to work during our training sessions.

Regards the dog… if you don’t have one yet, we can help you with that! All breeds are welcome 😀

Why do we need to train our dogs to Stop on a Whistle?

In the world of gundog training the stop whistle is used to control the dog, usually at a distance when the dog is moving, and usually followed by an instruction to turn left, right or go back further. It is generally used as part of a sequence, and it enables a dog handler to direct a dog to a particular location.

However outside of the gundog world this exercise has MANY uses and can ultimately be a life saver.

Imagine you are one side of a road, and your dog is on the other. They are heading back to you, and they will have to cross the road, there is a car coming! How do you tell your dog to stop?

Or how about you are in the park, and your dog spots some children playing football, Fido legs it in their direction aiming to nab the ball… how do you stop him from hurtling over and potentially ruining their game?

Then the answer to all the above is the STOP Whistle.

What does it look like in practice?

Without sounding like we are stating the obvious the exercise looks like this:

The dog is on the move, the handler blows the whistle, the dog stops and looks at the handler.

Criteria

Before starting this week, we advise that you set your criteria. This will mean you can train the actual behaviour you want.
Some owners/handlers want their dog to stop and stand, others want a stop and sit, others want a stop and a down. None are wrong, and each has its own merits.
We prefer to our young dogs stop and sit, because if a dog’s bottom is on the floor, it is less likely to move! However, once the behaviour is instilled in the dog a stop/stand is acceptable.

So, decide what you plan to train, and stick to your criteria! Except for one of our dogs, they are all trained to sit to the whistle in these videos.

Time scales & Training

Although we are showing you these exercises inside of a week, we are NOT suggesting they are taught in a week! Dog training requires time, patience, fun a good relationship and some tasty treats! The exercises should be done over several weeks, sometimes months. You will see across the week we have used several of our dogs in the videos. This is because they are all at different stages of training and development.

Steadiness & Obedience Training

Some of the exercises you will see this week are foundation obedience exercises, and their roots will help to create understanding between you and your dog around the required behaviours for Stop Whistle Training. Think of dog training like foundations of a building, they need to be strong and broad before you can build on them. The more you practice, the more those foundations are consolidated, and you and your dog will bloom. However, this requires repetition and consistency, and lots of the more “boring” tasks before you get to try the fancy stuff!

🎉🐾❤️🧡 Today we are 21 weeks old!! 🎉

Judging by our comical sleeping positions, we’re guessing that you can tell that we’ve been busy again this weekend! 😆 Puppy training on Saturday, a big run around the orchard at school this afternoon, and lots of training in between, it’s safe to say that we’re pooped tonight!

We’ve learned that there is nothing more enticing than a handful of sausages and bacon bits and we’ve also discovered that we love raw broccoli stems this weekend! Not only that, but we’ve been enjoying goats milk that has been sourced from a local farm, which makes mum happy as buying locally is important, so we’re told! ☺️

Today we are 20 weeks old! 🐾❤️🧡
Miss Red, 🐾❤️ Delilah, has had a busy weekend, starting her puppy training classes with her sister, Pepper 🐾🧡 She did so well, impressing us all with her lie down; ‘go find’ skills and playing nicely with one of the other puppies in the paddock. All this, while there was a thunder storm with torrential rain going on, which she took in her stride!

Delilah has been enjoying lots of treats for good listening and obedience skills and now has a new collar and harness. Her legs are getting longer by the day which gives her a great advantage for bounding round the garden at speed and jumping over her sister and other puppies at training class! I think you’ll agree that she’s looking pretty chilled in the final photograph on this post! 🥰

We continue to receive wonderful pupdates from Walter 🐾💙 & Nico’s 🐾💛 parents, as well as from Indie’s 🐾💖 family! We hope to meet up with Indie sometime this week to run around the paddock and enjoy some off-lead time in a safe space.

We are still hopeful that Delilah will find her perfect forever home 🏡 but until that time comes, she’s very much a part of the family here. It may just be impossible to part with her, in fact!

In other news, we’ve celebrated Lee’s birthday today, and have all eaten far too much! I think the pups have it right today…snoozing is best! Until next time…🥰

⭐️ Well, this is exciting news! ⭐️

My darling boy Walter 🐾💙 has found his forever home with his most handsome brother Nico 🐾💛 (Mr Yellow) This is just proof that great things come to those who wait!

After a few days of settling in he’s doing really well and we just know that he will have the happiest life living with his new family 🥹💙
It’s not goodbye, Walty Bear, more of a ‘see you soon!’ We love you, boy! Go and have the most exciting adventures with your brother!

⭐️ Today we are 19 weeks old! ⭐️

Well, it’s been a busy old weekend! Between football tournaments, cheerleading showcases and cricket matches we’ve barely had time to sit for 5 minutes but amongst the chaos we have been doing lots with pups including more socialising!

We saw Nico 🐾💛 (Mr Yellow) on Thursday evening, Indie 🐾💖 on Friday evening at cricket, and today we went to a park on the other side of town to experience new surroundings. Delilah 🐾❤️ was very well behaved and took all the doggy encounters in her stride: Pepper 🐾🧡 not so good, being a reactive little madam at times! We practiced negative reinforcement for unwanted behaviours (barking) followed by positive reinforcement for doing as instructed. I know we will get there as she’s a wonderful pup - and puppy classes for even more socialisation (albeit a bit late for us) will hopefully begin soon. Congratulations, also, to Indie 🐾💖 for achieving her puppy training rosette and to Nico 🐾💛 for getting his Therapy Dog in Training bandana! He also visited residents at a local nursing home this week, and behaved superbly!

Our pups now have new collars and new harnesses are on their way - colour co-ordinating, of course! 😍 They’ve been enjoying licki-mats, warmed goats milk and crunchy carrots this week - including some tasty biscuits as provided by Nico’s Mum and Dad when they visited! 🥰

Yesterday we turned 18 weeks! 🐾❤️💙🧡

We’re working hard on our lead walking, which is no mean feat when there’s 3 of us! But we’re doing well! ☺️ yesterday we practised recall work on the lane we walk most days and we did so well. Walter really impressed human dad, which is a bonus point seeing as he’s a grumpy old thing sometimes! 😂🤫
Tonight we walked down the track nearby, while mum and dad were running free and we were a little bit fuming! We all wanted to run around like little whirling dervishes! Good job human mum has promised to take us to an enclosed field at the weekend so that we can experience running free in a place other than our garden!

We continue to grow in confidence with a dose of mischievousness thrown in for good measure! 🐾❤️💙🧡

A little round up of this week! Plenty of snoozing; pack walking; meeting up with beautiful Indie 🐾💖 (and realising how dainty Delilah 🐾❤️ is in comparison!) and the stealing and ultimate consumption of a tray of apple turnovers 😂🙈 Boris and Walter 🐾💙 no doubt being the leading culprits!

These beautiful pups will reach their 18th week on Sunday - their little personalities are really starting to shine through now. Walter’s smiles are just the sweetest and he continues to steal our hearts with his deep, dark eyes. Delilah is such a gentle girl 1 on 1, with the most elegant (Boris-like) trot as she comes bounding down the garden for a fuss.
