Today I said goodbye to my breeding group of Pekins. I will miss them but they have a lovely new home just down the road from me. This means that 2024 will be the last breeding season I offer Pekins for sale which is sad but I am continuing with all my other breeds. I just need to be practical with how many groups I have as I do need to have time to sleep at some point 😉.
Heartbreaking day today 💔. This morning I found my growers cage had been ripped into in the night and all but 1 of 20 little lives had been taken. I don’t know how this tiny D’uccle hen survived but I am so grateful she did. This little survivor is resting in my younger chick group, hopefully some younger siblings can help her heal from the shock. This is the challenge of keeping animals, just when everything seems to be going well something comes and knocks you down. Rest in peace my little ones 🕊️. I will keep your little sister safe I promise.

Happy Fathers Day! Including all those proud cockerel parents out there too 😆. Lucky my ‘nanny’ cockerel is feeling very proud of his adopted son, who is now twice his size and still growing. But he loves him anyway 🥰.
Gorgeous Barbu D’uccle cockerel seeking his own flock. Are there any lonely bantam chicken ladies out there? This little man is a top quality black mottled Barbu D’uccle which is really hard colour to find. He was hatched last summer and has lived in my bachelor group over the winter. But it is a waste to leave him with no job to do. Any enquires please message me, I am seeking the very best home for my little lad.
I may have saved too many eggs to fill my big incubator 🤣🤣🤣. How could I have estimated so wrong 🤓? At least they look pretty in their colourful rows. 🌈
First broody hen of the year. Barbu D’uccles are not really known for being broody hens but this lovely lady has hatched chicks for me every year since she arrived and she is soo good at it. I can’t wait to see little heads poking out from under her wings. 🐥🐥🐥
I found a fairy egg today! 🧚 A fairy egg is a tiny egg that’s normally laid by a younger hen in her first year of laying and contains no yolk. These eggs were traditionally beloved to be a sign of positive events to come. So hopefully this bodes well for the next hatch of chicks that are due at the end of the week 🤞. This one was laid by one of my legbar girls and you can see the normal size of their eggs behind the fairy egg.
Special appeal!! Meet Lucky, this special boy is seeking a flock of his own. He is going to be left on his own very soon as he is the last of my bachelor group from 2023. All of his brothers have now sold and sadly I can not use him for breeding due to his brown feathers. But I love him and want to find him the best forever home. So if you have some lonely ladies please get in touch as Lucky would love his own ladies to love. ❤️
First hatch of the year had began!! 🐣 I fertility checked them this morning and out of 48 eggs I am expecting 41 chicks so I am very happy with that number. Considering some of these were the first eggs of the year. You can’t see 👀 on the photo but this a crack on one of the back eggs. So should have chicks by the weekend. Soo excited 🤩!
The saga of the missing 3 eggs to fill my incubator continues… not a single one of my bantam breeding groups (there are six groups) have laid an egg this morning 😩. How typical! So instead of being patient and waiting until tomorrow to put my incubator on, I have put 3 green legbar eggs in instead. Problem is my legbars are not in Gerald (my brand new rare white legbar) yet but instead with a spare bantam Welbar cockerel. So lord knows what those chicks will look like but I could not be patient another day 😆.
This beautiful pair of pekins went to their forever home today! They are going to hatch some beautiful babies 🐣 this year that their new owner will raise to become therapy chickens, which is amazing! 🤩 Very proud mummy moment.
My family know me too well. For Christmas, my dad has handmade me signs for my chicken cages and a sign for the hatchery door. Still a few breeds to add but feeling very lucky.
This mamma is determined that her babies will not grow up. Here she is sitting on one of her adopted daughters while her jealous son (from previous posts) looks on.

Unusual post today but still a little chicken themed. This is Peggy my 16 year old who normally only moves from sofa to food and back to sofa. But today she decided to jump up on the counter and then climb into my egg basket that’s perched on some egg trays 🤣🤣🤣. Not very safe and then she couldn’t figure out how to get out. I had loads of fun peeling her out. At least there was no eggs in the basket, that would have been messy 🤣🤣🤣.

Hannah’s Hatchery is back!! It is eggs galore at the moment with still more hens due to start laying soon. Incubator 1 is running with chicks due at the end of next week and incubator 2 is starting today. Exciting things to come 🐣🐣🐣

Just spent the last 45 mins crawling under hedges trying to find my one Groninger hen pullet who made a bid for freedom. Only caught her because she fell in a rabbit hole. She’s fine, my nerves not so much…

Loki is incredibly gorgeous 😍 but he is also a truly great cockerel.
How can you tell this? I will tell you, the best cockerels will always put their hens first, not matter what.
In this video you can see him patiently waiting for his ladies to finish their breakfast before he takes a single bite. A true gentleman.

My pekins are keeping me on my toes today. Cleaned them out yesterday and they decided to spill their whole water bowl over night soaking their cage and themselves 😂. Then Rocky decided to make an escape attempt while I cleaned it all up 🧽 . Very naughty boy but soo handsome 😍
New arrivals!! I am soo excited… They are Welbar bantams which are a rare breed and also an autosexing breed. This means you can tell the gender of their chicks from one day old. And they are gorgeous 😍 Fingers crossed for chicks in the spring 🐣
I think Maximus (Groninger) has fallen in love 😍 with Alice (Barbu D’uccle).
Good but sad day today! Said goodbye to one of my favourite cockerels from this years breeding. But he has gone to a fantastic new home with Mark who has loads of hens and ducks for him to love and protect. Going to miss you little man. 🥲
