Everyone - meet Hope! 🥰 This beautiful lady has come to me from a lovely family who have decided to give up keeping chickens but they have visited me in the past and really wanted their favourite girl Hope to come and live with me. So how could I refuse 🤷‍♀️. Eventually this sweet girl will join my millefleur Barbu D’uccle flock to introduce some new genetics. But right now she has come with a little problem 😉, she has gone very broody… so I am going to give her some eggs and let’s see what happens 🐣. More update to come 😆

Today I said goodbye to my breeding group of Pekins. I will miss them but they have a lovely new home just down the road from me. This means that 2024 will be the last breeding season I offer Pekins for sale which is sad but I am continuing with all my other breeds. I just need to be practical with how many groups I have as I do need to have time to sleep at some point 😉.

Heartbreaking day today 💔. This morning I found my growers cage had been ripped into in the night and all but 1 of 20 little lives had been taken. I don’t know how this tiny D’uccle hen survived but I am so grateful she did. This little survivor is resting in my younger chick group, hopefully some younger siblings can help her heal from the shock. This is the challenge of keeping animals, just when everything seems to be going well something comes and knocks you down. Rest in peace my little ones 🕊️. I will keep your little sister safe I promise.

Happy Fathers Day! Including all those proud cockerel parents out there too 😆. Lucky my ‘nanny’ cockerel is feeling very proud of his adopted son, who is now twice his size and still growing. But he loves him anyway 🥰.

Gorgeous Barbu D’uccle cockerel seeking his own flock. Are there any lonely bantam chicken ladies out there? This little man is a top quality black mottled Barbu D’uccle which is really hard colour to find. He was hatched last summer and has lived in my bachelor group over the winter. But it is a waste to leave him with no job to do. Any enquires please message me, I am seeking the very best home for my little lad.

I may have saved too many eggs to fill my big incubator 🤣🤣🤣. How could I have estimated so wrong 🤓? At least they look pretty in their colourful rows. 🌈

First broody hen of the year. Barbu D’uccles are not really known for being broody hens but this lovely lady has hatched chicks for me every year since she arrived and she is soo good at it. I can’t wait to see little heads poking out from under her wings. 🐥🐥🐥

I found a fairy egg today! 🧚 A fairy egg is a tiny egg that’s normally laid by a younger hen in her first year of laying and contains no yolk. These eggs were traditionally beloved to be a sign of positive events to come. So hopefully this bodes well for the next hatch of chicks that are due at the end of the week 🤞. This one was laid by one of my legbar girls and you can see the normal size of their eggs behind the fairy egg.

Special appeal!! Meet Lucky, this special boy is seeking a flock of his own. He is going to be left on his own very soon as he is the last of my bachelor group from 2023. All of his brothers have now sold and sadly I can not use him for breeding due to his brown feathers. But I love him and want to find him the best forever home. So if you have some lonely ladies please get in touch as Lucky would love his own ladies to love. ❤️

First hatch of the year had began!! 🐣 I fertility checked them this morning and out of 48 eggs I am expecting 41 chicks so I am very happy with that number. Considering some of these were the first eggs of the year. You can’t see 👀 on the photo but this a crack on one of the back eggs. So should have chicks by the weekend. Soo excited 🤩!

The saga of the missing 3 eggs to fill my incubator continues… not a single one of my bantam breeding groups (there are six groups) have laid an egg this morning 😩. How typical! So instead of being patient and waiting until tomorrow to put my incubator on, I have put 3 green legbar eggs in instead. Problem is my legbars are not in Gerald (my brand new rare white legbar) yet but instead with a spare bantam Welbar cockerel. So lord knows what those chicks will look like but I could not be patient another day 😆.

This beautiful pair of pekins went to their forever home today! They are going to hatch some beautiful babies 🐣 this year that their new owner will raise to become therapy chickens, which is amazing! 🤩 Very proud mummy moment.
