Educational post- Matting in dogs
Matting occurs when dogs fur knots up and becomes clumps. If a coat is not brushed properly or frequently this can occur.
Not all dogs enjoy being brushed and the best option would to have them on a schedule and have them shorter to help with this at home.
If the dog is matted bathing them can make them tighter to the skin.
Always use a slicker brush and comb and section out the dogs hair and go over with a metal comb to prevent this happening.
Sometimes small matts can be brushed out but if they become big clumps the only option is to shave them out as it would be too painful for the dog to be brushed out.
Matts are tight on the skin and can cause the dog to be in pain and become bruised and sore.
Try to have your dog on a good schedule of 6-8 weeks to help prevent this.
