MULTI AWARD WINNING 2023, 2021 LEADING DOG TRAINING SCHOOL NE ENGLAND 2020 DOG TRAINER OF THE YEAR 2018 BEST DOG TRAINING SCHOOL

I'm Anna & it's me you'll see for all your dog's training & behavioural help. I want to give you the very best possible service - I care that your pet's issues are resolved...I want you to have a happy, polite dog! I'll help you to build a relationship with your dog i

n a way that's fun, relaxed and informal, with lots of praise, play, pats and fun. Improving your dog's behaviour isn't about bullying, physical domination or using painful devices - those days are long gone, although sadly there's still plenty of 'trainers' using such methods & that's so sad. Nothing is better than watching dogs learn because it's fun and enjoyable to do so. We've got to learn to listen to and respect our dogs as partners in a relationship .... that's what I'm about :-)

Happy Leavers! This year so far, I've seen many dogs with issues regarding easy and positive relinquishment of objects, also sadly involving very serious consequences when owners have attempted to take objects from their dog's mouths/walk past when they're eating/playing etc. Many of the behaviour referrals I've received have involved quite serious wounds to owners and dogs have been 'marked' as potential euthanasia cases prior to my referral - so sad because in many cases, this could have been avoided 😞 If you're struggling with getting a great 'leave' or worry about potential guarding symptoms, please do ask for help as soon as possible

When you’re a young dog, especially a young Golden Retriever, everything & everyone is super exciting… gosh I wish I had that energy! 🤣 This doesn’t mean they’re doing anything‘wrong’ during extra enthusiastic greetings but we have to teach them there are more polite ways! That’s what Riley has been learning & she’s made a fantastic job of it too, especially when it comes to her bouncy greetings with other dogs… well done Riley 🏆🌟🥇

Is your dog a head tilter? He might me a very gifted dog then!! 🤩🏆🥇

According to a new study, just published in Animal Cognition, some dogs, those that can learn the name of their toys, tilt their heads upon hearing their owners requesting a toy. The side of the tilt seems to be consistent for each dog over time. Data on this behavior were collected during the Geniu...

You wouldn’t think it by looking at her by whippet Molly used to be a bit of a boisterous bully when meeting other dogs! We’ve worked a lot on helping her realise she has someone at the end of her lead… something she absolutely had no recognition of before & understand that it’s far more rewarding to be calm & polite when other dogs are in the vicinity. I must say I’m super pleased with Mollys progress in what is just a short space of time, she’s so much more relaxed & her little sidekick Joey has done an admirable job every week cheering her on (& hoovering up any spare treats!)

It’s always lovely working with & & Patch here is an example, isn’t he lovely? Patch has recently been rehomed & basically had little to no previous training & his terrier/terrorist ways had certainly come to the surface 😳 He’s an absolutey super little lad but has zero walking on the lead & recall skills… racing after furries is just so much more fun! This is a work in progress! 6 weeks in & focus is much more improved, walking on the lead is coming & recall/listening is much better with lower grade distractions. Patch is an example of having to stick at it, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ & he will most definitely get there, he’s made a great start from zero beginnings 😊🌟🥇

We all love seeing dogs running free off-lead but it's paramount that we're able to do this responsibly & have our dogs return when we ask - not everyone else in the park is comfortable around dogs/ not everyone else's dog appreciates a 'dog bombardment' etc. & it's just not safe or polite to have a dog running riot! There's definitely a 'super social' stage (around the terrible teens) when dogs inevitably are sent to me for a little bit of recall refinement! It's completely normal & just coincides with a little extra confidence & willingness to push boundaries/test/explore....don't worry, a perfect recall CAN be achieved & (whilst there's always individual circumstances) never listen to those who say 'X/Y/Z breeds can never be let off lead' 🙄

It’s been an absolute pleasure this last 6 weeks working with Bev & her gorgeous 4 dogs… Poppy, Islay, Murphy & Lilly. When you have multiple dogs, the dynamic can shift somewhat in various circumstances & Bev was finding it a little tricky encountering other dogs especially with Murphy & Poppy & then the others would kick off & set each other off… awkward! So we’ve worked a lot on calming techniques & focal techniques & i’m majorly impressed at the results…it’s not easy with multiple dogs… a super well done & it’s been such an enjoyable time too , I’ll v much enjoy my pressie 😋❤️🤗🎉🌟 Here ‘s Islay & Poppy (after a treat obv!)

Contrary to popular belief, harnesses do not cause a dog to pull more - having said that IMO there are exceptions! I can honestly say I have this discussion on harnesses multiple times per week but in many cases everyone simply wants to do their very best for their dog. Firstly, the correct fit is paramount - it pays to research the fit & I'll always suggest the best type for your dog - I think 'Y shape' is best & I do not favour belt type harnesses that breach the chest, there is just too much pressure there. My preference when starting out is to begin as simple as possible with a flat collar/lead combo & certainly with heavier breeds or dogs if they start to lean into a collar more, to transition to a front lead attachment harness with double ended lead for brake/steer control (I will show you how best to use). On a personal level this is the way I always go when starting my own pups (Labradors) before they go back into collars. All dogs are different obviously but harnesses are very useful to stop tracheal pressure/potential bruising & my preference is certainly this over headcollars/figure of 8 contraptions etc. in young dogs/pups.

Can a puppy wear a harness .... YES!!
Puppies can wear a well fitted Y shaped harness from the beginning, it's the safest and most comfortable way to train a puppy, and causes less stress on neck and joints.

Dogs with heads as thick as their necks such as pugs or whippets can easily slip out of a collar
Delicate toy breeds are prone to collapsing tracheas from tugging on a collar
Long bodied breeds such as Dachshunds are prone to slip disks, a harness will take the pressure off of their backs
Brachycephalic breeds are prone to respiratory problems so much safer wearing a harness.

But, not all harnesses are equal.
A harness that goes across the chest will put pressure on the dogs shoulders, restricting movement and gait. Over time this will cause joint and soft tissue damage.

Harnesses do not increase pulling, nor do they decrease pulling. They are just the safest piece of equipment.
If you want a dog to walk nicely on a loose lead you have to put time and effort into positive reinforcement training.

A well fitted Y SHAPE HARNESS is what you want
The ones I would recommend are
Perfect Fit
