MULTI AWARD WINNING 2023, 2021 LEADING DOG TRAINING SCHOOL NE ENGLAND 2020 DOG TRAINER OF THE YEAR 2018 BEST DOG TRAINING SCHOOL

I'm Anna & it's me you'll see for all your dog's training & behavioural help. I want to give you the very best possible service - I care that your pet's issues are resolved...I want you to have a happy, polite dog! I'll help you to build a relationship with your dog i

n a way that's fun, relaxed and informal, with lots of praise, play, pats and fun. Improving your dog's behaviour isn't about bullying, physical domination or using painful devices - those days are long gone, although sadly there's still plenty of 'trainers' using such methods & that's so sad. Nothing is better than watching dogs learn because it's fun and enjoyable to do so. We've got to learn to listen to and respect our dogs as partners in a relationship .... that's what I'm about :-)

XMAS 1 TO 1 DATES - It seems like yesterday that I wrote the same thing but soon I'll be closing 1 to 1 slots for this year. As ever it's been incredibly busy & my last week this year will be Dec 16th. It's not great to be splitting 1 to 1 courses over the Xmas period so pretty soon I'll be recommending new starters to commence early January. 🎅🎄

I have now deactivated voicemail due to the volume of calls/messages/txts per week. The vast majority of communications are via messenger/txt/email, probably 98% - thank you I much prefer that because I am away with clients literally all day. I can then get back to everybody as soon as I possibly can & much quicker with a txt/email etc. much more flexible. 😃

What a lovely girl Beau is & it’s been a pleasure helping her out. Beau was a typical very bouncy lurcher who was too busy to be walking quietly on a lead… she just wanted to lurch & leap! Over 3 sessions we’ve worked on some great focal work to help Beau connect better with her owner.. this way it becomes fun to walk well! I must say they are a great team & have made super progress & now I look forward to the next steps.. welcoming both to class… great job! 🏆🎉🍾

Dog reactivity is 100% THE most common reason for owners contacting me for behavioural help or for veterinary referral. There are so many reasons why a dog can be reactive, you've got to figure out the 'why' first & go from there. A huge thing to remember though is personal preferences. I think mostly we think dogs as social beings & therefore they somehow 'must like/interact/play with/be friendly towards other dogs'. As this useful graphic shows 👇 individuality is just that - not all dogs are comfortable being forced or pressured into contact! I will always look at exactly why your dog is 'reactive', what he/she is trying to communicate & then look at ways to move forward. Each method is never a 'one size fits all' plan - seeing dogs as individual beings with different emotional responses is key. 🙂

DON’T FORCE ME TO BE SOCIAL!
We expect that dogs should naturally like all other dogs and want to be friends, after all they’re the same species! Many owners have the expectation of their dog happily interacting and befriending other dogs at parks or when out walking, thoroughly enjoying the chance to engage with the same species, but the reality is often very different, leaving owners feeling frustrated and irritated and wondering what’s wrong with their dog.
Dogs are not that different from us when it comes to social preferences. As people, do we like every person we meet? Do we want to be friends with everyone with meet? Are we all social beings who love to be surrounded by people? The answer is no, but somehow, we assume that our dogs should be.
The sociability scale of dogs is influenced by early socialization and experiences, genetics, environmental factors, what they have learned through life experience and their own individual circumstances. Certain breeds are naturally more reserved than others.
Early socialization, habituation and positive experiences are vitally important and should not just stop after puppy hood, but ideally continue throughout life. A dog’s social tolerance can be improved or may even change through careful behaviour modification and management, but sometimes, we just need to accept that our dog is just not that into other dogs and that’s ok. Every dog is an individual and once we have done all we can to improve their social abilities we need to just accept and love them for who they are and never force them to be something that they’re not.

I just love this little girl! ❤️ This is Buffy & she’s been a superstar in several class courses but she needed some help with a (not great) habit of chasing cars & other moving things like trains & the odd mower 🙈 She is a real quick learner & this isn’t a quick solve but she’s been a star girl once more, figuring out that other little games might be a better option than wheels & mowers! I’m very proud of her & it’s been such fun to work with her again. I’m pretty pleased she’s coming back to class to do I can follow her progress… well done Buffy 💖🏆🎉🍾

Great post 👇 Currently I have with me several behavioural referrals from across the UK where pain is significantly influencing the animal's behaviour. Health & medical issues and especially pain are frequently underpinning our pets behavioural symptoms much more so that we may think. What concerns me also in the number of cases I receive with pain as a significant factor is how many of these do not have fully diagnosed pain or have not received the full & comprehensive evaluation necessary to rule in or out whether it is a factor or not - with some owner's concerns almost being 'brushed off' when they know something is amiss - we know our pets best but pain must be taken seriously as an influential factor.

Silent Pain is an epidemic in our pets.

(50% plus are affected while showing little or no signs!)

Most pet parents, and many vets, don't even know that Silent Pain exists.

Silent pain is invisible to x-rays and diagnostic scans.

Silent Pain is a HUGE problem, that I'm on a mission to educate the world about.

So I wrote a book - 'FIND & HEAL YOUR PET'S SILENT PAIN'

If your pets are showing any of the red flags below, chances are strong that they have Silent Pain that is flying under your radar. And you NEED to read my book! (You'll find it on Amazon.)

- Any change in behaviour, no matter how small - may be more reactive, may be more withdrawn. Especially aware of any increase in grumpiness/aggression

- Increased anxiety/reactivity

- Reduction in play, reluctance on walks

- Being ‘off-colour’ or not themselves

- Panting more than usual

- Any reluctance, hesitation, or difficulty in jumping on the couch or bed.

- Any stiffness or slowness in getting up and down (no matter how small)

- Flickering or twitching of the skin under your hands when you stroke your pets

- Changes in how your pet moves or holds their body

- Reduced stretching

- Reluctance to be touched

- Reduced shaking - anything less than a vigorous shake from head to tail

I help animals all over the world heal and be well + happy with holistic veterinary care, kind training, and energy healing. If you want me to help your pets, message me! Zoom and in person appts available.
