UNWRAPPING THE DANGERS - NAVIGATING HAZARDS OVER THE FESTIVE PERIOD

Whilst we are enjoying Christmas festivities, the holiday season can be very overwhelming and dangerous for dogs and other pets. Changes in routines and different people visiting.can be very unsettling, which may lead to unexpected problem behaviours. Decorations are potentially harmful and many seasonal foods are also hazardous.

Here are a few of our tips to help you get through this time together safely

🐾. Stick to your dog’s usual routine as much as possible
🐾. Providing a quiet space as a safe retreat
🐾. Avoid too many visitors especially if you dog is not entirely comfortable with different people
🐾. Encourage downtime to help them to decompress
🐾. Natural chews, stuffed KONGS and LickiMats should help to settle them as well as boosting the production of feel good hormones
🐾. Ensure your dog cannot accidentally get access to alcohol or too much food
🐾. Cooked bones are dangerous due to the risk of splintering
🐾. Raisins contained in many Christmas foods can be extremely toxic and even a small quantity can kill a dog
🐾. ‘Dog proof’ lower surfaces to prevent accidents caused by broken (possibly expensive/sentimental) ornaments
🐾. Be aware of your own vets’ out of hours emergency cover provision and consider registering with a local vet that offers their own emergency cover

I can honestly say I have never known a dog to turn down some homemade liver cake.

Garlic is an optional ingredient.

It can be dangerous in large quantities (this amount is not) but it equally has great health benefits to including being a natural flea and tick repeller.

Do you research before making an informed decision.
With or without, its a sure hit with the dogs! 🐕

Aw hope they are rescued soon

Urgent! We have many cats needing new homes.

This week, our cat coordinator has taken in two carrier bags of cats/kittens, handed in to a vet, and also six other kittens and very young cats. We are now bursting at the seams with cats and kittens, so if you are thinking of getting a feline pet, please consider adopting from us.
