My little home business has now been going for over 30 years, in the last couple of years I have found myself being called the ‘Spider Lady’ more often than not. Trends are continually changing and arachnids are far more popular than they have ever been before. I have a bug room at the side of our house that is dedicated to keeping a multitude of creatures. Since moving out of London in 2003, my

work is mainly postal but I do welcome visitors by appointment. It took me some time to actually reach the 21st century and see the potential of customers ordering online. I am now fully convinced, business has increased tremendously since setting up my first online store in 2009. In October 2012 my current online store went live, the photographs are larger and clearer, the information is more comprehensive and the online ordering is simpler and therefore easier to use. I am still readily accessible by email and telephone and I strive to maintain my position as the most friendly and reliable bug supplier! I do not lie!)

Unfortunately there is a page in the name of Virginia Chesseman (not the spelling of my surname), it is a scam! It has been reported to Facebook many times but still remains. The page uses some of my tarantula photos but has also taken content from other sites, reptiles, beautiful frogs and what looks to be a nice, happy American family but that is not me or my family! I’ve been told that the scammers are most likely Chinese.

Please can you share this post to everyone, far and wide, it would be an enormous help and spread the word that it is not me!

Recently, while I was on holiday, I received notification that someone had been taken in and lost a lot of money. It really upset me but I feel powerless. I have had two people email me today about this fake profile and I’m sure it is now affecting my business. All I can ask is that you spread the word and stop anybody else being conned out of money!

I love Domino cockroaches, what sweet little bugs they are 🥰

I’ve been keeping them for years and whatever I do, they always seem to mature at the same time. It seems they are seasonal, even in my bug room with quite limited day light. I have a lot of them right now! So all on special offer 😂

They make great bug pets and super display animals as they are very active and unlike the nymphs, the adults like to climb (I hate to say it but tarantulas love them too 😋

This month’s tarantula sale is going well, thanks to everyone who has bought a spider from me. Just to say there are plenty more to go 😁

A couple of people have asked me why, when they have ordered, the spider appears back on the website. Please don’t worry it is another one. I still have several of some species but I put them on one at a time as I always pick out the best one to post. I like to check that the tarantula is not about to moult and fits the size description etc. Obviously as I am phasing them out I do only have one of some species and that one, once sold will indeed disappear from the website. Never to reappear 😔 (if you have requested a photo, that is the one you will receive)

I have plenty of these spiderlings, Cameroon Baboon (Hysterocrates gigas), a really nice species that generally do well communally. I was trying to take a quick snap before they all disappeared 😂

Mayflies, we hear about them, they are frequently mentioned in pub quizzes but when do you actually see them? Perhaps in May 😂 I took these photos on a walk last weekend. There were clouds of Mayflies and a pair of pesky ducks were gobbling them up, as I was trying to take my photos. They only live for a day or two but they were spectacular to watch. I was captivated and felt very lucky to see them (while my family walked off and left me to it, nothing new there then 😁).

I’ve been super busy since coming home from holiday on Tuesday. I have now caught up on all emails and I have been putting many of my tarantulas on special offer (do take a look 😉). Bees are very important to the Cypriot people and I have a special interest in them. I’m planning on getting a hive myself next year but I need to go on a beekeepers course first as I don’t know enough about their maintenance (it’s a shame that we don’t like honey really 😂). I found three swarms in our hotel orchard and we were lucky enough to see the Bee Eater birds that fly over Cyprus at this time of year. They are stunningly beautiful but not good news for the bees and not a popular sight for the locals.
