It takes time and patience to change a dogs emotional responses around things they find challenging - dogs, people, traffic, joggers etc etc but these amazing people are putting in the work. It’s so rewarding when instead of conflict (pulling, dragging, trying to shush barking - and yes, embarrassment!) turns to confidence building cooperation

All the dogs we work with are special but this anxious little rescue is one of those who has captured my heart. Lots of stressed rescues tear apart toys and beds but this little boy gently carries around his toys, plays with them by himself and snuggles up with them when he sleeps. He’s gaining confidence day by day and is now quite brave on walks. He loves learning and has wonderful owners who are putting a lot of love and work into making him happy

We have a real soft spot for rescue dogs, having had several ourselves, and we work with many gorgeous rescues, helping with training and, often, behaviour issues. While a lot of rescue centres are well run and knowledgeable, there are an increasing number of rescue outfits that, at best, are well meaning but lacking in knowledge, or lack the resources to look after their animals as they should. We often see rescues that have been mismatched with owners, families or living conditions, where proper assessments clearly haven't been done. And, sadly, there are a few out there who are using rescue animals as a profit maker. So it makes sense to press the Government to consider introducing licensing, regulation and inspection measures to protect our most vulnerable animals. Please sign if you agree...

Many UK animal rescues operate without clear legal oversight, creating opportunities for unethical practices. Some rescues have been linked to supporting irresponsible breeding, neglecting animals, or misusing public donations.

Does anyone else remember this? Hairy Maclary gathers his friends like Hercules Morse, as big as a horse, and Schnitzel von Krumm with a very low tum and they all go trotting off for a little adventure. I’m old enough to have childhood memories of when dogs did roam around together with their friends. It made me think how different life is for dogs today. How have dogs’ lives changed in your lifetime??
