FANTASTIC NEWS ⭐️

🎉The planning permission for our new surgery has been granted! 🎉 The next step will be to get the ball rolling with the builders. Current projections are that we will be in the new premises around November, but we will keep you all informed of our progress.

Lots of change will be happening here over the next few months, rest assured we are NOT being taken over and will remain a truly independent practice owned by Ann and Scott.

There are some staff changes, we are welcoming our lovely Vet Rachel back from her maternity leave currently, and she is hoping to be back with us fully around September but had a few days with us now, to settle herself back in. And as one mum returns another one leaves! Receptionist Catherine is off on maternity leave in July, and is being covered by Sharon. Sharon is new to us here but has worked in veterinary practice, so please bear with her whilst she is learning our ropes!

Some sad news is that our new graduate Vet Teja has left for pastures new after cutting her teeth here in her first 6 months as a fully fledged Vet, we wish her the very best of luck for her future career.

The expanded practice will mean that we will soon be recruiting for further permanent clinical staff, however in the mean time we are using some Locum cover, to get you seen sooner. We endeavour to use the same small group of locums whenever we can so you don’t see too many unfamiliar faces, but please understand we are doing everything we can to keep the volume of available appointments up, so apologies if you feel you are seeing different people, it really won’t last for long, and our new surgery will be well worth the wait.

We thank all of you, our lovely clients, for your support at this time, and we can’t wait to go on this journey with you!

VETERINARY NURSE AWARENESS MONTH⭐️

Did you know that our Veterinary Nurses can give second vaccines to puppies and kittens if they had their first vaccine and health check with one of our vets?

Puppies William & Harry came in to see Chloe during her nurse clinic today for their second vaccine. They were very well behaved and very quickly learnt that being brave for their injection meant they got lots of snacks and fuss! William and Harry will be completely protected in 7 days time and can then start exploring the big wide world!

Nurse clinics are the ideal opportunity for owners to ask any questions they may have when there is a new addition to the family, checking weights of growing puppies and kittens, to discuss preventative flea and worm treatment and advising on neutering! Our nurses are always more than happy to help!

VECTOR✨🌈

We are very sad to announce that after a short and sudden illness Vector has passed away. The whole team are absolutely devastated as he was a firm favourite amongst all the staff here at Bridge. He was also very well known amongst our clients as he had a very cheeky personality and would often be found sat on the reception desk!

A very special mention goes to our receptionist Jenny, who had given him a wonderful retirement in his golden years as the increasing busyness of the practice became more stressful for him as he got older.

We will all miss him very much as he was one of a kind! 🐱

🐱UPDATE: We are pleased to say that our pretty little boarder has been reunited with her owner and is booked in for her microchip soon should she decide to take herself off for a walk again. Normally an indoor cat/home body, she decided to take herself off for a little stroll a bit further than usual yesterday. Thankyou to the ladies that picked her up and brought her safely to the surgery. Permission received to share her picture and you can all no doubt agree, she is a little beauty.

🐱We would like to take this opportunity to advise and remind folks that compulsory microchipping for cats will be coming into effect from 10th June 2024. We would encourage all pet owners to get their cats microchipped ahead of the new law taking effect. Please get in touch with us to find out how.
It is already compulsory for dogs to be indentified with a microchip. If you are not sure if your dog has a chip please contact us to arrange a time when they can be scanned. For those that are chipped, Please make sure your and your pets details with the microchip registration are also up to date. So, if you have moved, changed phone numbers or taken on a dog, puppy or microchipped cat from another home, breeder or rescue centre please check that the registration details for their microchip have been updated. If you are not sure how, please call the surgery for advice.
Thank you and be safe this firework season ✨

🐾A young cat has been brought to the surgery after following a young girl home from the Burnham Tesco Stores. No identification with which to find an owner so with concerns of the day becoming dark, fireworks and being uncertain from where the cat came from we have kept the cat here for safety.
Please rest assured that the cat is in good health and if you live close to Tesco and are missing a young cat please contact the surgery to speak to our on duty vet. You will be asked to give a description for identification and any photos you may have to prove ownership would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

OCTOBER PET OF THE MONTH ⭐️ BRUCE

Bruce came in to see Vet Ann and Nurse Leanne one Saturday afternoon due to having a tri barbed fish hook and weight attached to his lower lip! The owners were horrified as Bruce came in from the garden with the object piercing through his skin- with neither owner having a fishing hobby they were completely shocked as to where Bruce had found the hook and why it was in their garden!

Ann managed to give Bruce a very light sedation to remove the hook and weight, as he was very distressed and pawing at his face trying to remove it himself. Fortunately, there was very little damage done and Bruce made a quick recovery and went home shortly after.

PRACTICE NEWS🐾

YES! There are lots of us here nowadays at Bridge Vets!

Regular clients will have noticed that we have a few new faces here at the surgery lately. Lots of changes have been happening behind the scenes, and we wanted to fill you in on it all.

Firstly, and most importantly, our own lovely Vet Rachel has given birth to a beautiful baby boy, William. We all wish her lots of love and look forward to welcoming her back next year. We are using a small team of locums to cover her maternity leave, so you may see some visiting Vets.

We are sadly saying goodbye to Stefano in November, he is relocating with his family. We have really enjoyed working with him and wish him lots of luck for his future.

We are delighted to have welcomed three new members of staff:
Hayley, our newest Veterinary Care Assistant,
Caz, a Veterinary Nurse of many years,
and Teja, a Veterinary Surgeon.

Please be kind to them as they are lovely ladies and all working very hard trying to learn the ropes! Look out for their Bio’s on here soon.
You may also have noticed our Vet Nurse Rachel here, in civilian clothing! After the birth of her second child, she has returned to us in an admin role, using her veterinary knowledge to assist clients with pet insurance, amongst other jobs.

The rest of us are all still here! Vets Ann and Jenny make up the rest of the Vet team, Nurses Chloe, Leanne and Scott compliment them, and our support team is made of Emma, our Practice Manager, and our Receptionists Jenny, Sadie, Tania, Catherine, and another Emma.

Although you may see new people here, rest assured we have recruited carefully, and our new staff share our values of compassionate care and providing high-quality affordable treatments for our clients and their pets. We look forward to seeing you here when you need us.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT ⭐️

New guidance came in earlier this week regarding Vets prescribing medications. The set of guidelines has been set by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, our governing body and therefore we are obliged to abide by these.

We understand the frustration the rule changes have caused amongst some of our clients, we also are feeling the strain of implementing them but this is simply something we have to follow.

Flea and worm checks seem to have caused the most confusion so please read the following carefully:

The cost of a flea and worm check is now £12 and this enables us to prescribe your pets flea and worm treatment for 12 months, this check allows us to record on your file that your pet has had a physical examination. If your pet has had this check you do not need to be seen every time you require flea/worm treatment in that 12 month period as it has already been prescribed. If your pet is due their booster vaccinations or Practice Plan Health Check you do not need an additional flea and worm check, those appointments include a clinical examination and the vet will record on your file that flea and worm treatment can be dispensed for 12 months.

Please remember to be kind to our staff members, abuse towards our team will not be tolerated as they have no choice in implementing the new protocols.

04/09/2023

⭐️IMPORTANT INFORMATION ⭐️

NEW UNDER-CARE GUIDANCE FOR PRESCRIPTION MEDICINES.

From 1st September the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS, the regulatory body for the veterinary profession in the UK) introduced new guidance on prescribing prescription-only medicines.

The new guidance requires that a physical examination of the pet has to be performed every time any antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals and antiparasiticides are prescribed. This includes topical preparations such as ear and eye drops, and all prescription flea / worm / tick products.

The guidance is an important step towards ensuring responsible antimicrobial use and reducing the veterinary impact on the wider issues of global antibiotic resistance and decline of insect populations.

What this means in practice is that your pet will need to come in for an in-person consultation every time:

- We need to prescribe medication for an ear infection (as most contain antibiotics).

- We need to prescribe antibiotics for any skin problem, even if it’s a chronic problem.

- We / you decide to change form one flea / worm / tick product to another.

- We suspect a urinary tract infection.

- We suspect a gastrointestinal infection.

For long-term prescription medication that is not antimicrobial / antiparasitic, our usual policy of requiring an examination every 6 months (or every 3 months in some less stable or more serious cases) continues to apply.

The consultations are charged at our usual fee of £38 – £28.88 depending on whether it’s an initial consultation or one for a recurring problem.

If you have any questions or concerns about the new guidance, the RCVS can be contacted on 0207 202 0789 or [email protected]. The full guidance can be found on: https://www.rcvs.org.uk/setting-standards/advice-and-guidance/under-care-new-guidance/

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter –
