Imagine you are deaf. You can’t hear your smoke alarm or alarm clock. You can’t hear your text messages. You miss out on social interactions. That’s what life is like for deaf people, and it can be very isolating. A hearing dog can make a big difference. You can help our charity of the year – Hearing Dogs for Deaf People – help a deaf person leave loneliness behind, by adding a donation via Pennies when you pay by card. Just a small
donation can help deaf people escape isolation and reconnect with life. Thank you 🫶
Phew that was a busy morning!
Our practice is all about empowering the next set of students and young people safely under the eye of our very experienced clinical team .
Student vet nurse Sian was developing her anaesthetic skills under the close eye of Head Veterinary Nurse Beverly .
It was a tricky patient with lots of things that could go wrong but thanks to their eagle eyes and clinical knowledge our patient sailed through his procedure with no complications 😇
🥰🥰We are all rooting for Shea and ever grateful for Animal Connexions who work hard to look after the pets in their care
Are you as chilled as receptionist Tracey ?
Have you tried out our recently redesigned cat friendly area ? It’s got space to place your basket up high so your cat can feel safer.
The use of solid barriers means that our feline friends can feel that bit more relaxed too as they aren’t being watched by our lovely canine patients .
And you have a nice view out our waiting room window - it’s no wonder Tracey is chilling out here!
*all now open as normal but please leave a little extra time for your appointments*
There are roadworks in progress on one of our access routes - please access the practice via the Old Coach Road if possible or from Dromara direction as the route off the A1 is currently blocked
Two of the best boys Shadow and Rocko visited vet Kathryn recently to get their vaccinations.
They are ALWAYS ready for the treats to appear 😅🥰
Check out this beautiful Siamese cat called Tao who was in recently to see RVN Caoimhe for his HPC 6 month health check! 🩺
He was also the best boy when getting his microchip and there wasn't a peep out of him! 😇
Just look at those gorgeous blue eyes 😍💙
There are many benefits when you sign up to HPC, including free flea and worming treatment, nurse health checks every 6 months, nail clips and microchips! Plus much more! 😁
If you would like to sign up to our Healthy Pet Club then don't be afraid to give us a ring or have a chat with our team when in! 😊
And just like that our new oxygen tent is put together 👏. PCA Tammy just needs to find a willing cat to reject it in favour of the cardboard box it came in now 🫢😃
We provide 24/7 hospital care on site in Hillsborough. We have the staff and kit to deal with everything from a nail clip to major trauma and respiratory problems .
Guide Dog Vicki is looking very grown up from our first picture with her 😍
Obviously cuddling puppies is the part of the job our reception team hate 🤫🥹🤔😉
Pixie was glad to have a nice safe bucket of grass to hide in when she was in the hospital recently.
Did you know that you can reduce stress for your rabbits by bringing them in with their bonded pair and with familiar bedding/ food?
Beautiful Pickles has a secret design insert that we thought was just excellent when she came to see us recently for her vaccinate, flea and worm treatment.
Can you spot the hidden 💗 in her colours?

The team did not go hungry the day these beautiful buns were brought in - thank you!
Did you know that our vet Amy - aside from being an all round amazing vet - is currently undertaking advanced study in diagnostic imaging?
This certificate takes several years of training. It’s great to be able to utilise her skills to
help our patients get even more detail out of their ultrasound scans and X-rays when the answer isn’t obvious.
This training adds to our growing list of services that are just a bit ‘above and beyond ‘ the normal
We can currently offer :
🔑Laporsocopic spays
🦴Orthopaedic surgery
🎞️Endoscopy
❓Second opinions on a wide range of cases from complex medical cases to more advanced soft tissue surgery such as skin grafts or a**l sac removals

You know when your dog has had so many bandages that they feature on a cake that you’ve seen the vet a bit too much recently 😃
Ellie has had the happy news today that after an 8 week journey of wound healing she is finally signed off seeing us for a while!
Ellie’s story is below:
Her poor owner had to deal with a bit of a surprise when she appeared back from a walk dripping blood.
**warning from here on there is graphic wound detail**
Once our clinical team assessed Ellie’s wound it was clear it was ‘a bit of a wound’. Lurchers have very thin skin and Ellie had managed to deglove her entire lower chest wall 😫.
Such an effort had she made in fact that you could see her heart beating through the thin layer of muscle left. She was centimetres away from a penetrating chest wound that would have been fatal.
Our nurse team flushed the wound thoroughly and then registered vet nurse Kathy ( who has additional surgical nursing training ) assisted vet Kathryn to repair the wound . It took them both a lot of stitching and thinking to put everything back in the best way possible.
The vast majority of the wound healed very well. Unfortunately some of the skin was badly damaged and died off BUT thanks to the skill of our nursing team and their bandaging and wound care- we were able to avoid a second surgery or skin graft.
Ellie has been a model patient and her owners have been extremely good at managing what has been a long enough wound journey. We were delighted to see her signed off today- and while that alone was reward enough the cake was, as they say, the icing on the top!
Barney has been having a great time getting to know our team 🥰
Deputy Head nurse Guoda looked after some of his follow on vaccinations after he had his first vet check . As you can see there were also cuddles galore 🤩
We promise there are eyes in there underneath all that gorgeous fluff .
What can vet nurses do?
Head nurse Beverly has been caught over the last few years working hard to care for a number of patients 📸
It isn’t ’just’ cuddling them- though that is super important too!
The range of professional skills this team has is just amazing . It’s using the diagnostic imaging suite to get a clear image for the vet; it’s bandaging wounds and dressing them to prevent pressure sores ; it’s using the dental suite to scale and polish teeth - and it’s educating the next generation of student nurses .
Our nurse clinics are very busy these days as the nurses deal with everything from a**l glands to post op checks to nutrition consults 😍
Our fabulous prep team have spent the last year developing our diabetic nurse clinics. Vet Suzanne and RVN Caoimhe led this project to drive our goal of continually improving the service that we offer to our patients and their owners . Diabetes is a rapidly evolving clinical condition with lots of options available.
With fresh handouts, up to date clinical knowledge and a wide range of options for how we manage your pets diabetes - our team are excited to continue to provide excellent advice.
And we don’t just mean clinical advice- half the battle with chronic illness is knowing that someone is there to talk to about the challenges of nursing a pet with a chronic illness. Please do feel free to call our clinical team if you are a client and want to chat about any worries you have with your diabetic pet . 😍
Gorgeous puppy Joni was in visiting nurse Lauren so that her weight could be checked and an accurate dose of prescription medication for flea and worm prevention could be dispensed.
She’d just like to let you all know that she just loves snacks and gives excellent kisses 😍😍
Some of our patients who joined us this day last week for either neutering operations or dental work .
Our team love looking after your pets and you can rest assured that they are looked after like our own during their stay . Registered vet nurses monitor them throughout their anaesthetic and recovery in purpose built separate dog and cat wards.
Neutering your cat is one of the best things you can do for them, and for the welfare of the general cat population.
You can still get 20 % off spays and neuters if you are a Healthy Pet Club member 🎉
Unfortunately we have also had a black female unchipped cat handed in who passed away despite the teams efforts 🌈
We had a small male kitten handed in this morning sadly deceased :(
Please contact the practice if you think this little one is yours 🌈🌈
This little one was found in the Newry area over the weekend. They are microchipped but not registered.
Please ring the practice on 02892683711 if you think you know who owns them.
Proof of ownership required.

Meet Frida Frida decided to try out a tasty snack she found on the ground while out on her walk . Unfortunately her sneaky snack had a lot of similarities to slug pellets 😔. These can be fatal to dogs even in small quantities . Luckily her owners got her straight into us and after discussing options vet Suzanne and nurse Marianne ably assisted by PCA Tammy agreed to flush her stomach out to try and remove any toxins. Frida spent the night in our 24/7 hospital under MiNight Vet Lisburn s capable care and thankfully was ready to home this morning with no further issues expected 🥰🥰 If you are ever worried about something your dog has eaten do what Fridays owners did and get a picture, ideally a sample of the item and give us a call.
Felix the 2 year old Hermann’s tortoise presented to MiNight Vet Lisburn last weekend after being mistaken for a toy by the neighbour’s dog! He has a punctured shell which will take a long time to heal but is doing well. He will require check ups with the Cromlyn House team until his shell has mended. He surprised the team with how fast he can move when he gets going! #cromlynvets #hereforyou
Well that didn’t take too long! These three cuties have quickly found a loving forever home 🥰🥰 Thanks for all the interest and apologies if we couldn’t get back to you individually. #cromlynvets
Handsome Scooby visited us this week to se vet Kathryn- he had a fab time meeting some of our new reception team members as well as his old favourites . We loved seeing his pictures of his recent holiday. He got a brand new toy and as you can see travelled in nothing less than the lap of luxury 😎😎 It was lovely to see you Scooby! #cromlynvets #herefoyou
😍😍 No words needed. We are so pleased these two kittens from Animal Connexions have been well enough to go home today after being very poorly. Enjoy! And if you can- donate to help this fab charity with the cost of raising kittens like these https://donate.giveasyoulive.com/fundraising/animal-connexions-vet-and-kennel-bills?fbclid=IwAR0ukVF9sUHFqVTjQkPT1XqXhXPDCaXu5nqfO6tfP51RdcwNef-IwLuqaY8 #cromlynvets #animalconnexions
Lovely Ramona had a big dental today which was a big deal for this elderly lady. We are delighted that thanks to a careful anaesthetic and good pain relief she was very keen to eat again less than two hours after recovering. Vet Amy used our dental suite with x-rays (just like you get of your own teeth !) to identify the problem teeth and sort them out. Our 24/7 team will be on hand to care for her overnight now with some more tasty food on the menu! #cromlynvets #hereforyou
Meet Indie. Gorgeous Indie came to see us after suffering acute paralysis of her hind limbs 😔. Vet Kathryn identified that she had a bulging intervertebral disc putting pressure on her spinal cord and took her to theatre to relieve the pressure. This is a common condition in dachshunds. After a successful surgery this lovely girl spent a lot of time with our nursing team being supported as she learnt to walk again. She progressed from standing with two people holding her up to taking one tiny step forward at a time. After some weeks of intense physiotherapy both at home and with her very dedicated owner we were delighted that she made a great recovery! She certainly brightened up our days with her cheerful attitude. We loved looking after her and would like to share some behind the scenes videos of her progress with you. Keep an eye out for her waggy tail coming back halfway through the video when she regained control of this vital bit of anatomy 😉😁😍. #cromlynvets #hereforyou #orthovet
Are you jumping into the week ahead with enthusiasm like our head nurse Beverly? She just loves it when she hears the bandaging cases come in - and can whip up a donut pretty darn quick ! #cromlynvets #whatvndo
Here’s head nurse Beverly showing off her donut skills with Brodie 🍩 If only it was this quick to make in reality. Beverly loves making her donuts almost as much as she loves eating them! 😋 #cromlynvets #donut
Happy National Veterinary Receptionist Day to all of our receptionists for yesterday! #vetlife #vetreceptionist #cromlynvets #appreciationpost
No vets were harmed in the making of this video. Our nurses aren’t messing around 💩 https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMLn94mJq/ #cromlynvets #vetnurseawarenessmonth #vetnurse
Another behind the scenes from Vet Emma and RVN Kathy. If only it was as quick as this making up all your furr babies daily prescriptions. #dayinthelife #cromlynhousevets #vets
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to spend a day behind the scenes in the vets? Here’s a day in the life of Walter getting neutered with us. #cromlynvets #waltersdayout #cockapoo
🥁 Are you ready for the big reveal?!🥁🥁🍿🍿 The lovely Gracie had in fact helped herself to two socks and half a face mask! So well done to those who said sock! With the use of our endoscope as you can see we managed to avoid having to perform any surgeries 👍👍 Gracie was a star patient but is under strict instructions- no more scavenging! #cromlynvets #hereforyou #endsocopy
🎥 Are you ready for the next instalment of our endoscopy series?? 🎥 Those who said we were in the stomach were right! This next video shows us bringing the object out of the stomach into the oesophagus. We’ve had sock, hairball, tumour as guesses so far - what do you think? Final answers tomorrow! #cromlynvets
Do you fancy yourself as a bit of a vet? Or even just good at video games ? We’re going to share some videos of a procedure called endoscopy this week. This involves the use of a camera on the end of long flexible tubing. Your task is to guess what we are looking at! And do you know which part of the body we might be looking at? A hint- it was swallowed! We will share more videos and details tomorrow so keep an eye on the page! #cromlynvets #endoscopy
Hobie ticked the box on room service for extra head rubs when he was in our purpose built cat ward recently 😍🥰 #cromlynvets
🥰Cici came to see our fabulous nursing team for a ‘biscuit visit’ yesterday to help her associate the vet practice with positive outings rather than scary outings. SVN Caroline and PCA Helen gently got Cici accustomed to some new things like standing on the vets table and being examined, meeting different team members and walking round the practice to get to know the layout. As you can see she was so much more confident the biscuit tin was under attack by the end of the session 😂 #whatvndo #cromlynvets
