I have some news!

I've been in retail for a long time, it's changed alot, and there more change to come! Its very different and it's not where my heart is anymore. I've met some wonderful people over the years, and I've thoroughly enjoyed listening to the tales of all your wonderful creatures. The job doesn't stop when the door closes each night, I've missed time with family and friends, and I've not been 'present' with my animals for a long time. Regrettably I didn't sort it before I lost my Dee, but I have to sort it now.

The shop will be closing, last day will be Saturday 19th March. Everything is on sale and needs a new home. However, I will still be doing rug washing and repairs! I'll focus on closing the shop before releasing any rug info, but that will be up and running for when those winter rugs are able to come off for some sunshine!!

It's been a very personal decision, I have to be true to myself and find what makes my heart sing. I've loved meeting all of you, and thank you all for your custom and friendship over the years. Hopefully I'll see you all before we close and see you again in the future to clean your rugs.

Much love,

Fiona xx

I realise we’re closed a little more over Christmas than previous years. After quite an eventful year, I need a little more time away to reset.

Not having time off for 4 years takes its toll. Next year the shop will close for a short period in spring and summer so I’m a little more with it for the winter. I appreciate your understanding with this, I will give warning closer to the time.

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas, I hope you can all take time to rest, enjoy spending time with loved ones and eat lots of goodies!

Thank you for your support over the year.

Much love,

Fiona ❀️

Hello all,

Its the 19th of July, when everything is meant to change.

Nothing here will change. We'll be running exactly the same as we have done over the last 18 months.

I will still have a mask on, the sanitiser station is still there, one way system is still there. Everything is the same.

I will kindly ask that everyone is respectful of everyone's comfort zones. We all feel very differently going forwards. I want you all to feel safe in the shop and I also want to feel safe at work.

I hope you're all enjoying the sunshine and the horse flies aren't driving you too crazy! πŸ΄β˜€οΈπŸͺ°

Ps. Nothing happier than a dog on the beach right? πŸ₯°

As the grass grows and fewer calories are needed, it's important to remember your horse or pony still needs essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals that are lacking in UK forage. A feed balancer or vitamin and mineral supplement are a good option. Clare gives a good breakdown of the differences between the two. 🐴

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VIT/MIN SUPPLEMENTS AND BALANCERS?

UK forages are always short of minerals for horses (and vitamins in conserved forages e.g. hay and haylage) so you do need to 'balance' the diet with a feed or supplement. In reality every vitamin and mineral supplement that is designed to make up for shortages in forage is a 'balancer'. The term 'balancer' tends, however, to be used in the UK to describe a - usually but not always - pelleted concentrated compound feed that supplies vitamins, minerals, some good quality protein plus a little energy. They often also contain other additives such as live yeast, herbs and suchlike.

Vitamin and mineral supplements are technically still balancers but they are fed in a smaller daily quantity and don't supply the good quality protein or energy that 'balancers' do. These supplements are generally fed at a daily rate of around 50-100g for a 500kg horse.

The pellets typically used in the manufacture of a concentrated feed 'balancer' are generally fed at around 500g for a 500kg horse, per day. These are an alternative to a regular compound feed that is typically fed at around 5-600g per 100kg BW (2.5-3kg for a 500kg horse). That rate is too high for many horses and would oversupply energy i.e. make them too fat.

Pelleted balancers are more palatable than vitamin and mineral supplements for some horses, but many will happily eat a vit/min supplement mixed with chaff or soaked beet/forage pellets/mash.

Hello all,

I hope everyone is well. Due for unforseen circumstances, I'm unable to get to the shop this morning. I should be back and running this afternoon, it might be worth calling first.
