It's a beautiful evening here with the Shires and Henry. Summer has finally arrived. Bringing with it flies and pollen. So we all pop the fly masks on, the fly rugs and grab the fly repellent. The stinky stuff, generally full of chemicals. Some of you, however, may prefer a more natural approach to fly protection. Maybe you feed garlic, and apple cider vinegar. Maybe you use a natural fly spray. Well, we've found you another one! You know how we like to support small businesses, being one ourselves. We found Green Tail Pet Products. This lovely lady has a home based business making natural animal care products with essential oils. Four of her products in particular caught our eye. The first one being a natural fly repellent, in spray form or gel, anti itch gel, bite relief gel, and pollen balm. That I will be trying myself! They are really reasonably priced, and I for one will definitely be trying them!

The sun is out, the birds are singing, it's a lovely morning here at Redcoats Equine! I hope you're all doing fun stuff with your horses today. Maybe you're off showing, or have a lovely hack planned. Perhaps it's time for neddy to have the first bath of the season! We have lots of shampoos in stock, mane and tail sprays, sweat scrapers, all the things you need for the 'glow up'! If you're hacking, we have plenty of washes in for the wash off afterwards, including citrus and lavender. We also have second hand fly masks and fly rugs. Summer is pretty much here! The trees are all covered in beautiful leaves, bringing dappled light and shade for our horses. The hedgerows are full of greenery, and tempting snacks, like sticky willie and cow parsley. Or is it? After an interesting chat with a fellow horse mum, I had a wander round the edges of our little wood this morning, and looked closely at the 'cow parsley' . That's when I noticed something. The pretty green fronds and delicate flowers that we all think is cow parsley was a bit different. It was in fact Hemlock! They are so similar, it's an easy mistake to make. But Hemlock has a smooth shiny stem, whereas cow parsley has a slightly fuzzy hairy stem. Also the Hemlocks leaves are slightly more 'frondy' where the cow parsley leaves are flatter, like flat leaf parsley. So while you're our gathering delicious treats for neddy, beware what you're picking!

Good morning! It's actually warm and sunny here, but I'll keep quiet as I don't want to jinx it! The light flooded in as I pulled the shutters up this morning and had a tidy round. As I stood and had a look, my mind got to thinking about recycling ♻️. Heavens knows why that popped in, but it's actually relevant to what we do here. Re-loved at Redcoats. Reuse and recycle ♻️ Save the planet and all that jazz. As I looked, I realised how much stuff we actually have. Reins, martingales, breastplates, girths, and obviously saddle cloths! Bits, boots, travel boots, rugs, and even a few saddles! All waiting to be re-loved and re-used, and save you a few quid into the bargain! So have a sort out, see what you need, or have a sort out and bring what you no longer use to us and we'll sell it for you! It's a win win situation. Helping each other, that's what we're about 🥰

Well, it's raining again! So we'll put the fly rugs away and put the rainsheets back on. The weather is certainly very changeable. However, it's an ideal time to have a sort out, and make a little list of the things you're running low on, or run out of, or broken. Maybe your martingale stops have perished, or you've lost a flash strap, or perhaps your first aid kit is a bit depleted. Maybe you've misplaced your plaiting kit, or lost your schooling whip. We have it all here! Pop in for a rummage though our lovely second hand equipment, and have a coffee at the same time. ☕️🫖

After a really busy day making rosettes, I ended up going to do my horses a little later than planned. And there they were, waiting by the gate, surrounded by flys. Luckily I'd put fly masks on them this morning and copious amounts of fly spray, but they were still buzzing about. So tomorrow I'll search out the fly rugs. If you find yourself in the same situation, we have plenty of new and secondhand fly rugs and masks, and of course the essential fly spray!

Sorry guys, I need a rant! As you all know, we are selling second hand equipment now, and it's proving very popular. As you also know, I spend a lot of time cataloguing it, photographing it and listing it all over the appropriate sites on fb. This takes time. When someone messages about an item, I'll go and find it, take more photos, and send them over, answering questions about size and postage costs, paypal etc. What's the big deal? I'll tell you. It may be 6 people asking about the same item. So I'll do that 6 times over, on lots of items. Every day. Then , someone will say ' yes please'. Then another person will say 'yes please'. So now there are two people wanting the same item. That's when the trail goes cold. You've give them all the details, they've said yes, then....... NOTHING. ZERO. Not even a message to say I've changed my mind. Then you offer it to the next in line. NOWT. ZILCH. Time wasted. Maybe not for you, but definitely for me. So I emplore you, only comment if you're actually interested. It's not just you interested that item. There are others possibly more interested. So, please be aware of that, and let me know if you're no longer interested. RANT OVER
