Labels are for clothing, not for dogs

Ad even labels in clothing differ depending on which shop you're in ( I'm a size 12 in one, but would be a 14 in another )

Us humans sometimes find it easy to pop a label on our dogs

'He's reactive'
'He's a dominant dog'
'He's stubborn '

But, quite often what we are labelling our dog with, is not helpful to neither us nor the dog as it's not addressing the ' problem and can lead to a relationship breakdown.

For example with the 'he's reactive' statement, we need to recognise that the dog that is barking at other dogs, people, etc... is not trying to give us a hard time, the are actually having a hard time, and it's up to us as their guardians, to help them feel better about what it is that is troubling them.

Lets be our dogs superheroes and stick the labels where they belong, on our clothes !

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to write a review.
For a small local business like mine, word of mouth and reviews from those who have trained with me, helps me keep being able to help new puppy parents navigate those first few months ( and years) with a new furry addition to the family. Latest review below….

‘ We have been taking our lab puppy Marvin to Sally's puppy classes and cannot recommend them enough. We are thoroughly enjoying learning lots about managing a new pup, so we have the tools to implement this at home. Sally focuses on making your puppy feel safe and happy in a positive environment, and Marvin absolutely adores her so this says it all. Marvin runs in the door to puppy class, and we will be booking him in to go to Sally's next class too 😊’

Thanks Ashley

Don't be a jerk!

Yes, I have to admit, I was a jerk!
I didn't know any better and I did what I was told
I was totally new to having my very own Dog

He was a very big, strong and fit teenaged dog who I rescued from the pound.
I sought lots of advice a the time from Dog experts/ behaviour specialists and other Dog owners at the local park and attended 2 hour training classes with him every week.
We walked him twice a day and also went running with him when the weather wasn't hot as he had so much energy to burn off !( or so I thought)

But I was a jerk!

This was over 20 years ago and some of the advice to stop pulling was to give them a ' jerk' on their lead and in a stern voice say ' heel' whilst walking up and down the training field in straight lines.

But..... I'm thankful for this .....
Why, you may ask?

It's because of situations like this ( and many, many more) that inspired me to study more about how dogs dog learn, how to understand them, which then in turn led me to pursue my dream job, becoming a dog trainer.

It didn't sit right with me, forcing my dog to ' obey' me and punishing them when they got things wrong.
I wanted to learn how to make them feel good help their owners feel good and not so frustrated with their dogs when they behaved undesirably for us humans ( but somewhat very normally for a dog!) .
I am very grateful for the many truly inspirational professionals I have met along my journey, who have inspired me and help educate me, as dog trainers, just like dogs, can never stop learning..........
Dogs are family and with kind and consistent methods, we can help achieve great things together as a team.

Have you ever noticed how exciting dogs find everyday life?

They can teach us a lot about being happy.
So if you're feeling the January blues, focus on enriching your dogs life, take a leaf out of the dogs book and let them enrich yours.

Forget the health faux pas of the past year, don't dwell on this year's already broken resolutions, and whilst spring is still on a distant horizon, accept a challenge.!

I challenge you to think more like your dog, centre your whimsical new year ambitions on working together and do it every day.

Repeat after me. Muzzled dogs are NOT BAD DOGS.

Muzzled dogs have good humans.

Muzzled dogs can have more experiences because they are managed. Their quality of life is INCREASED because of the muzzle.

Muzzled dogs can still have treats.

Muzzled dogs are not miserable.

Muzzled dogs are muzzled for ALL KINDS OF REASONS. Not just aggression. Maybe they eat too much stuff off the ground and get sick. Maybe they play too rough. Maybe they over correct when startled. Maybe they want to eat squirrels. Maybe they need to learn better social skills. Not all dogs in a muzzle have a bite history, some have them on to prevent that in the first place. Sometimes the muzzle is more for the HUMAN than the DOG because it allows them to feel more confident. Big dogs, small dogs, and all breeds and sizes need muzzles sometimes. It is not a breed specific tool.

Muzzled dogs are GOOD DOGS WITH GREAT HUMANS who are setting their dog up to not fail. Judging a dog in a muzzle and their owner is the same as judging someone for wearing a helmet. They are choosing safety and being proactive and it takes WORK to get your dog to a level that they are happily working and walking around in a muzzle so kudos to the humans and dogs I work with who put that time in to better their dogs lives.

If you see a dog in a muzzle, don’t stare, don’t ask rude questions, just say “nice job, great looking dog!” And carry on. Believe me, you will have just made that humans day.

Calm canine classes

Everyone wants a well behaved pet, right ?

We feel to help achieve this, we need to build a strong relationship, based on trust, kindness and of course, play. Once our pups learn to trust us and that we are fun, they can learn that training is fun too.

I’ve been working with dogs for the past 19 years and seen many changes during that time in the ways we train our dogs, and am constantly learning more on various courses and workshops throughout each year. I love learning and then being able to share new ideas with my clients.

We offer relaxed, friendly, informative 6 week courses for new puppies, with further courses following on to this foundation course , some stay for continuation classes for a further 12 months or more.
