The "to insure or not to insure debate" ....
What a rollercoaster over the last few weeks, our poor Ronnie just wasn't well and vets were finding it difficult to determine why he was off his food, lethargic, miserable and not toileting much, his stomach was bloated and he wasn't happy. Xrays showed horrendous arthritis in the leg he broke years ago, so pain relief was given, but my gut said it was something else. Fast forward a referral to Davies Veterinary Professionals Forum and ultrasounds last week, lymphoma and IBD was ruled out and FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) feared, the test takes a week to come back and he was deteriorating, I begged them to just start the expensive antiviral IV drugs. 4 days in hospital and he came home Monday with an appetite, bright eyes and a purr to melt your heart. He's started his antiviral tablets (tuna flavoured, yum), it's an 80day course ..... TODAY the results confirmed 100% he has FIP, and never did I think I'd be relieved to know my cat has FIP not something else that may kill him (only a few years ago FIP was a death sentence with no cure), it's still a relatively new illness to be treated but has a huge success rate if caught in time and Ronnie is responding so well.
So, if you don't think insuring you cat is worth while, think again, we've already hit Β£7,000 and it's all covered by his insurance!!
Here is a bit about FIP
