π΄ We had some moments when Apollo was confused, rebelling or trying to eat the grass. But he is very negotiable and I tried to make it clear for him to understand... and we got there. Walking around nicely then had a few trots too π
Elizabeth Rose with her owner, just popping on the lorry ππ΄ No problem π π΄π

π§ So, out working in the rain today. Although I had nice little intervals of dryness so didn't get soaked! π¦ But I worked with Elizabeth Rose again, this time for loading training. Her owner said she'd been fine in a trailer but struggled to get her on a 7.5t lorry, and took 90 minutes the other day.
So when I lead her up to the lorry, she wasn't sure. No super scared or anything and no explosive behaviour. Just said no, stopped after putting her from feet on the ramp and swung her bum round. After 15 mins of this and some persuasion of hayledge, we were on and off the lorry woth no hesitation at all! Even a skip and jump onto the lorry. Calm, content and no rushing to get off. πππ΄
Then asked her owner to lead her on there a couple of times. No problem π
We then went away for about 15 mins, put Elizabeth back in her stable to then see what she thought after some time had passed.
Well nothing exciting there! Just popped back on the lorry a few more times, a d we changed the partitions too and closed her in. No worries! ππ΄π
Murphy's first proper trot work in the menage. πππ
It took a while for the penny to drop. Sometimes you have to think outside the box to bridge the gap of understanding and willingness.
π΄ Every horse is difference and if something isn't working, ie your horse doesn't understand and isn't doing what you ask, there no is point shouting. And when they still don't do as you ask, there is no point shouting louder! And I mean that in a metaphorical way as literally.
Keeping yourself calm, and importantly your horse calm so he can listen and learn, be safe as well. So little requests and lots of reward!
We took Murphy out of the menage and encouraged him to trot undersaddle on the track on the yard first, with encouragement from his owner on the ground as well as my requests and a difference environment...we got some trot transitions. Then the next training session I asked him in the menage and he clicked ππ

π΄π My customer sent me this footage of giving treats to her pony! So funny, I had share. Making sloppy noises and his missing tooth as well! Bless him. I've been working with Milo for about 8 years. Such a lovely boy π΄π€
This is about the 3rd time Murphy has had a rider on his back. He's nice a settled, stands perfectly to get on and walking around quietly in the menage ππ

Wakita's first rider π Such a good girl. π

Working with Wakita again today. She was still a little distracted with what was going on in the distance again (but that's babies for you) and we were having a bit of trouble standing at the mounting block again.
However she was a lot better than last week. I did get there in the end, but didn't have footage of that bit.
Overall Wakita was fantastic for her first tome with ridier ! π Super proud of her π

π I have seen young Wakita a couple of times now. The owner has given her a fantastic start with getting her accustomed to the tack, taking her for walks out inhand and taking her out in the horsebox etc. and trying to expose her to all sorts. Wakita is doing great!
π΄ I have achieved some good ground work with her and I we tried for a proper lean over her back. Unfortunately Wakita got completely distracted by another horse in the far distance and became quite difficult and was very unsettled. Therefore, we didn't fight it. We took a step back of what we were just doing, which was long lining. I managed to settle her down, get 90% of her attention back then attempted the leaning over again.
π This time it went very well. She wasn't bothered by me or scared. Just impatient and wanted to walk off. But I eventually managed to stay with her and got her listening. ππ
Wakita is a super horse and I look forward to carrying on with her training π

I've been going out to see Rio for quite a few weeks. He's a young pony that had become very frightened of anyone trying to get on him. Someone had fallen off of him and since then he bolts when you try to get on, then someone fell again. He wouldn't stand still at a mounting block either. And before these events happened he had to be bribed with treats to stand still at a mounting block while someone got on him. So now no-one could get on Rio.
π΄ After the first session with me, I had him standing still and (I did have someone at the end of a rope just incase he bolted) I got on him. He was frightened and he jumped and probably would have bolted if I didn't have a contact with him. But repetition and he got better and better. Not having anyone hold him for me, mounting from different mounting block and difference areas, moving around on his back, half getting off but then getting back on again etc... He is far more settled. π
Rio still needs lots more training as well as ridden schooling but he's now going to have the winter off and we'll continue in the Spring. Rio is a lovely boy but lost his confidence. We're on the right track and he can stand still very well (better than he did before the incident) but still needs reassurance and more schooling so be understands what we are asking so he doesn't get upset and run π
I look forward to seeing him and working with him again in the Spring π
