You may have met the lovely Lenny when you’ve visited us, he’s sometimes behind the desk in reception.

He belongs to Katie our Practice Manager. Over the past few months he’s had to have cruciate surgery on both rear legs here at the vets.

He’s all recovered and doing very well and It’s so good to see him back to his normal self 🐶

Katie says -

It's been a long 3 months for this guy (and me), but look who's back!

Our brand new Endoscope and Dental X-ray has all been installed.

It’s great news that we now have this equipment onsite. It will save time and money for clients and it means patients won’t need to be sent elsewhere.

The Endoscope will enhance our diagnostic capabilities and will aid in our identification of gastrointestinal issues, foreign bodies, abnormal cells, tumours and certain cancers like lymphoma all in house.

The Dental X-ray will be essential for identifying and documenting the nature and severity of dental disorders and conditions that may be missed on an oral examination.

We’re super excited to have these two new pieces of equipment. Our team is now fully trained and these two fantastic machines are up and running.

🎃🍁 Autumn is a lovely season 🍁🎃 But please try not to let your dogs eat conker’s, not only are they highly poisonous if chewed they can also become lodged in the stomach.

Hi everyone, we hope your all well. Just to let you know this Saturday 24th we have no Vet appointments available.

We will have a nurse manning the phones and dispensing medication should you need them. We have arranged for a local independent practice to cover anything that is an emergency. If you do need this on Saturday morning just call our usual number 01477406008.

This is Diesel, he’s a shepherd cross, 1-2 years old. He’s a lovely, very well trained dog. He’s looking for his forever home. If you think you could offer him a loving home or know of anyone please do comment below. His Foster family said he wouldn’t be suited to a family with cats or very small children. Thank you 🐶

🐶 Please be careful today and tomorrow, temperatures reached 26 in Cheshire yesterday and it looks like it’s going to be another hot 🥵one today through to Wednesday. Provide plenty of water, shade and try to walk them before 8am and after 8pm. It’s not worth the risk of heat stroke. 🐶

She was found just outside the entrance of Joddrell Bank.

James and Emily were at vet school together at Liverpool University some 20 plus years ago!

Mars’ Epilepsy Update ✌🏼

Yesterday we took Mars to a new vet - Goostrey Lane Vets - because his seizures have been picking up in frequency lately and we wanted to see someone we knew we could trust to help get them back under control.

Treating epilepsy is so fiddly because all the dogs respond differently to each medication and dosage, in Mars’ case his body is adapting to his meds so they work for a bit and then stop, so it’s really important that we have a vet we can trust to adjust his medication in a way that we can get the best results.

Goostrey Lane is about 40 mins down the M6 for us which is fine for occasional visits but not optimal traffic-wise but because most of epilepsy management doesn’t actually require Mars to be seen, they’ve agreed we can use email and phone appointments to adjust his dosages AND can mail his medications to us.

Goostrey Lane find the perfect middle between pharmaceutical medicine and holistic which is exactly what we want and need. You know me, I’m never one for ruling out options that could help and there’s lots of studies proving CBD can help with epilepsy so we’ve been keen to get started on it for a while. Our vet, James, also directed us to a fish oil supplement which he strongly recommends because of all the benefits it offers.

We’ve doubled Mars’ pharmaceutical meds for now so we can get his seizures under control and in a few weeks we’ll be adding in the CBD and fish oil - if we change everything all at once and it works, we won’t know what has helped.

Mostly it was so nice to have an almost relaxing experience at the vets. The waiting room was clean and inviting and not filled with dogs barking at each other on flexis. The appointment itself was long while we covered all of Mars’ history (about 30 mins) but we in no way felt rushed or like we’d taken too much time- nothing like the in and out 10 min visits most vets throw you through these days. James genuinely cared about helping Mars and you could see in his face that he was really thinking about the best ways to manage his treatment.

Christmas has arrived early!!

This is little Lizzie, she is a 3 month old chocolate Burmese kitten. She came into see us 2 weeks ago with a serious and rare, emergency bowel condition called Intussusception.

Intussusception is a condition where the gut 'telescopes' in on itself, this causes the walls to press on one another, leading to gut obstruction, reduced blood flow and the death of that section of the bowel.

James performed an emergency operation to remove the affected gut and we are pleased to say she is making great recovery 🐈

It’s so lovely to see her doing so well after such a serious condition.

🥰🐶 Little Myrtle visited us this morning for her 2nd vaccine then popped next door to Paws and More - Pet Supplies to get her very first harness 🐶🥰 just look at that little face.
