Hydrotherapy a safe way to exercise young puppies allowing them to let off steam /build quality muscle ..but at the same time protecting young joints ,

Barney a 10-year-old cocker poo is at Haven hydrotherapy to receive treatment for post op knee surgery,
These pictures show his lack of confidence the first couple of pictures. He looks very worried and he’s splashing in the water but check out the rest of the reel. He has only been swimming six times.
Outstanding result already!

He was recommended by his vet to come to Hydrotherapy treatment..
Dogs will often not use their operative leg post surgery they don’t know it’s the best thing to do when it hurts or it sore. !
Barneys surgery went well he just was not keen as is often the case to use his leg correctly
They can carry the leg and then this can become a habit causing strain to the opposing leg and of course preventing muscle building on the Surgical leg!
Hydrotherapy helps with gait reinstatement
Swimming in water takes away the pain & effort of movement
Barney is already using his leg 70% more than he was in recovery so a great start already well done sweet little Barney you’re on the road to recovery with your loving owners support

A sweet rescue 4 years old approximately Malinois x breed dog from Cyprus ,rescued with another dog ..as youngsters
directly from a rescue they visited on holiday !
Tamalas loving owners have brought him along as he is experiencing muscle wasteage on his hind legs and weakness in his back
, as rescues often we do not know history , therefore poor malnutrition/trauma / before rescue can cause underlying weakness orthopaedic /muscle /tendon /ligaments.. early /midlife …
he clearly needs help in building up his strength with an agreed referral by his vet and owners we have started work
Tamala is a very worried fellow until you get to know him. This is just his second swim and he’s doing amazing.
Overcoming anxiety with swimming which he has really settled very quickly into and also being close up to people that he does not know but everything is done here with compassion, kindness, gentleness and at a speed that each individual dog can cope with !
I think we’ve made friends quite quickly Tamala and I ! and as most of you know, even if they’re nervous to start, most go onto absolutely love Hydrotherapy and the benefits that it brings them are immeasurable !

Myla a beautiful French bulldog is only seven months old
Myla is here as she has a condition called luxating patella’s which is a scientific name for kneecaps simply put her kneecaps are moving/dislocationg away from the groove within the orthopaedic structure of the knee that they are supposed to sit in as you can imagine this is very painful for dogs and causes extreme damage to orthopaedic structures which would result in arthritis as dogs age, Hydrotherapy will serve to build sizeable muscle around the knee, preventing friction and instability within a non weight bearing environment
Will keep you updated on Myla‘s progress and let’s hope we get another win. Thank you to Myla’s wonderful owners for bringing her in to receive treatment and to their forward thinking vet for recommending hydrotherapy with potentially the avoidance of surgery, let’s hope we can get a win for Myla

Hydrotherapy will help strengthen these areas along with her core and a universal body conditioning exercise for Maisie in a non-weight-bearing environment. We will build her strength back up building muscle and we will keep you posted on how she gets on. Well done Maisie proud of you already. !

Together Team Bruce we won !
Bruce’s loving committed owners
Haven Hydrotherapy and Bruce’s pro hydrotherapy vet giving yet again Hydrotherapy the opportunity and not straight to surgery thank you for this approach !

"We just want to thank Karen at Haven Hydrotherapy who has worked her magic on Bruce.
It was looking like Bruce might have to have an operation due to a knee issue. Our vet suggested Hydrotherapy before considering operating. After a few months of seeing Karen, Bruce no longer needs an op!
Karen is incredibly passionate about supporting the dogs that she sees and that clearly shows in all that she does. We would highly recommend her if you are considering this type of therapy.
Thanks Karen for your invaluable support to Bruce and us and it really has been appreciated"
