FAYE🤍
One part of the job that has always got to me is assessing the dogs that come into us as strays with no background history on them whatsoever.
We spend a lot of time with them testing them with other dogs, people, lead work, recall, veterinary treatment, looking for any food/toy possession issues etc. But the part that saddens me the most is figuring out what they do or don’t already know.
This video is a prime example, once upon a time someone put in a lot of work to teach Faye a whole load of tricks, there is probably a lot more that she knows but we are yet to find out! As you can see, she absolutely loves to learn and all she wants to do is please, look at that tail❤️ I bet whoever it was had a lot of fun teaching her these things, but now she is discarded at a rescue for some reason that we will probably never know. We are not judging, it is just sad.
She is a wonderful dog with the potential to make her next owner so so happy, we really hope we find that for her soon as she is just wasted here, she needs to be out and about experiencing the world and enjoying the home comforts again.
If interested, please take a look at her profile and fill in an application form if you believe you are a suitable match for this lovely girl🤍

Tyga💙
Tyga is a young bull lurcher who will be 3 this year and has been at the rescue for about 20 months! 🐾
Tyga is a well known resident with many of our volunteer groups as he absolutely loves people, having fusses, a good run in the paddock with toys and trying his best to win somebody over.
When he was younger it is clear he missed out on the socialisation and exposure dogs need to make them confident around other animals and new environments. He does love exploring but does struggle to sit still comfortably as he is on edge in busier environments but with more exposure to new environments and spending time stopping on walks he is improving. He does walk really well on lead using the gen con (figure of 8 around his muzzle and behind his ears) and it does also help manage his behaviour around other dogs. When he came in he would crocodile roll when he saw a dog even in the very far distance. He still has melt downs when walking head to head with another dog but they are not as bad as they use to be and are for much shorter amounts of time and he is easier to get out of them.
We really hope this does not put people off from reading further about him or potentially applying for him as he is such a good adventure buddy and loves exploring especially in a nice quiet forest where there are lots of smells. He does have a lot of energy but does like to relax and have a good cuddle.
He has a lot more to learn about the world and we are hoping he can learn in the comfort of a home as kennel life is not doing him any favours🏡
What we think Tyga will need or would be best for him is a home where he is the only pet and at the moment with confident teenagers 16+ so everybody in the house can be on board for his training and he can feel comfortable. As he is a very good jumper fencing in the garden must be at least 6ft or you are willing to change this by the time you take him for his security and safety. It would be ideal that there were no neighbouring dogs to

Roxy 3
Roxy is a stunning girl who came into us as a stray.
She was very nervous on arrival but it didn’t take too long for her to warm up to us! We are now seeing more and more of her personality and she is super sweet and affectionate once she trusts you. She can be a bit unsure of some new people initially but again, it doesn’t take her long to gain her confidence. She is looking for a home with sensible older children 16+.
Roxy loves being off lead in our secure paddocks here at NCAR, her recall can be pretty hit and miss though so she will definitely need more work in this area when she goes to her new home. She walks pretty well on lead but can be strong if you let her and will occasionally turn and start to chew the lead if something stresses her out, she is very easy to distract though.
She can be a little bit vocal when passing some dogs on walks. We have mixed her with several dogs during her stay with us and she has shown to get on with them well, she is happy to just walk with them but is also up for a good run around with them too.
We really hope that she finds her forever home soon.

Penny
Penny is a gorgeous sweet girl who is only 18 months. She arrived in our care after being handed into a vets and we have managed to get some history on her and she really hasn’t had the best life.
Despite being locked in a bedroom for most of her life alone she is super friendly with people and craves attention constantly so she is looking for a home where adopters will be there most of the day and work with any potential separation issues but she does settle well in her kennel.🏡
Unfortunately she never got walked so we have been working on her lead work and with good handling she is doing well but she can be staring if not controlled properly. When walking and being with her, her tail never stops wagging and she gets so happy meeting new people her tail is like a whip with it wagging so much! She loves going into our paddock and that is where she has the most cuddles and keeps very close to you unless you chuck treats away for her to find! She has yet to learn how to play with toys properly but we are sure she will get there. 🐾
The main reason for her being dumped and neglected was that she was not getting along with the other dog in the house. Instead of working with this she was shut away and not socialised out on walks as she was not exercised this made her reactive when she saw another dog here. Initially she would crocodile roll and scream. With patience and slowly teaching her that other dogs are ok you can see on the video how she manages to start socialising now. She has yet to properly initiate play with another dog but she is doing amazing in her training so far. We still will be looking for a home where she is the only pet in order for her to settle and have the best relaxing life she deserves. 🐶
Penny has so much potential and she has started to show that here with us. She is after a home dedicated on carrying in the training and will spend time with our behaviour team to go over continued socialisation. She is also
Fun fact Friday
Padding otherwise know as “making biscuits” is very common in our feline friends and you may have noticed your cat doing this. Padding is where they will alternatively step on the spot with their paws and will push down, this is typically done on a soft surface such as blankets or beds. Cats learn the padding action from a young age in order to get milk from their mum and will continue to do so in adulthood to soothe and make them feel comfortable.🐈⬛

Holly
Holly is a beautiful hound who is approximately between 1-2 years old. She arrived into our care as a stray and did not get claimed.
She does have tattoos in her ears and given her breed, it is highly likely she has been part of a pack of hounds before coming to us. Holly is a lovely girl who has lots of love to give! She is affectionate and cuddly and is quite people orientated which is good. She can be timid at times but does tend to look to her handler for guidance, she will require lots of training including lead work and further socialisation so anyone interested must be dedicated to doing this with her.🐕🦺
Since arriving, we have introduced Holly to different dogs on site and she seems to enjoy their company. She will pull towards them and wants to greet every dog she sees, but is also quite polite too and has good social skills. We definitely feel Holly would be suited to live with other dogs pending mixes going well on site here, and may even benefit from doing so.🐶
Holly will be best suited to a home in a quieter area as we feel she would struggle in a busy place. She has highly likely never lived in a home before, so will need training and de-sensitising to general household noises and toilet training, advice and guidance will be given to any potential adopters. From what we believe of her past we will not be rehoming her to homes with cats or other small furries.🐾
Holly can be rehomed with children 12+ who are sensible and dog-savvy.
She is an amazing girl who is a firm favourite here at NCAR and we hope a suitable home comes along for her soon where she can go on lots of adventures and be loved 🥰
