What a cutie!! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

Happy belated birthday to our lovely hibernation resident Rupert! We loved this photo sent in from his owner.
Just look how happy he is to be enjoying his very large (normal sized๐Ÿ˜…) birthday treat ๐Ÿ‰

(Fruit is not recommended for tortoises, as mentioned this is a treat for Rupertโ€™s birthday only)

Maki and Mochi came in for their very first appointment last week at our Horley Branch with nurse Jess and vet Charlotte!

They had a full clean bill of health and enjoyed lots of snacks from the team whilst they had their first vaccinations!

We're super excited to see this cheeky pair grow! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’—

TO THE ANIMALS
Lest We Forget

The pigeon, the dog and the mighty horse, part of regiments in the great war course.

Even the cats were down in the trench.
purring for the men in that awful stench.

Mankind often forgets they were there,
and the many crosses these animals bear.

These fine creatures helped the great war, battling beside soldiers in the bloody gore.

So let us remember the animals this day.
in the minute of silence, think where they lay.

Sadly a large deceased female tabby and white cat has been brought into the practice this morning. Unfortunately she doesn't have a microchip, we estimate she is around 5-10 years old. Her left ear has been tipped. She was found last night on Bone Hurst Road near Sainsburys Petrol station.

If you think she may be yours then please call the practice on 01293782684๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’—

๐ŸŽ† Fireworks and Pets: Keep Your Furry Friends Safe This Season ๐ŸŽ†

As we approach the season of fireworks, itโ€™s important to remember that while we might be enjoying the festivities, our pets may be feeling the stress. Loud noises, flashing lights, and unexpected explosions can cause anxiety and fear in many animals. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

๐Ÿพ Signs Your Pet Might Be Stressed by Fireworks:
- Hiding or seeking shelter
- Trembling or shaking
- Drooling or panting excessively
- Barking, meowing, or whining
- Trying to escape (digging, scratching, or chewing at doors)

๐Ÿพ Tips to Keep Your Pet Safe:
- Create a Safe Space: Set up a quiet, comfortable area in your home with familiar toys or blankets. Close windows and curtains to block out the noise and light.
- Stay Calm: Animals often pick up on their owner's emotions. If youโ€™re anxious, they may become more stressed. Keep a calm and soothing tone with them.
- Consider Desensitizing Techniques: If your pet is particularly anxious, consult with us for tips or a tailored desensitization plan leading up to fireworks season.
- Keep Them Indoors: During fireworks displays, itโ€™s safest to keep pets indoors to prevent them from running off or getting injured in their panic.

- Consult Your Veterinarian: For severe anxiety, there are medication options that can help calm your pet during stressful times. Our team is happy to provide guidance.

We want all our furry patients to feel safe and loved, even during fireworks season. If youโ€™re concerned about your petโ€™s reaction or need advice, donโ€™t hesitate to contact us! ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ’™ Stay safe and enjoy the season with your pets!

๐ŸŽƒ Happy Howl-o-Ween from us at Portland Vets! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘ป

Halloween is here, and we want to make sure your pets stay safe and happy during the festivities!

๐Ÿฆ‡ Costume Tips: Keep it comfy! Make sure your pet can move freely and breathe easily. If theyโ€™re not a fan of costumes, thatโ€™s okayโ€”snacks and cuddles work too!

๐Ÿฌ Candy Alert: Keep chocolate and candy (especially sugar-free) out of reach. Stick to pet-friendly treats!

๐Ÿ’€ Halloween Night: If your pet is easily spooked, set up a quiet space away from the doorbell chaos. And donโ€™t forgetโ€”keep pets indoors!

Wishing you all a spooky and safe Halloween! ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘ป Need advice? Weโ€™re here to help!

๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿพ Attention Pet Parents! ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒฟ

As we enjoy the warmer months, itโ€™s important to keep an eye out for harvest mites, which can cause your pets some serious discomfort! These tiny pests are more active in tall grass and overgrown areas, leading to itchy, irritated skin for your furry friends. ๐Ÿถโค๏ธ

Stay safe, stay informed, and let us help keep your pets happy and healthy! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿพ๐ŸˆOctober we celebrate Black Cat Day!๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿพ

Did you know black cats are often overlooked in adoption settings, despite being just as loving and playful as any other cat?

Fun fact - In many cultures, black cats are seen as symbols of good luck! For example, in Japan they're thought to bring prosperity and in Scotland spotting one on your doorstep is believed to mean good fortune is on its way! โœจโœจ

So this month, let's celebrate the shiny pantherns of the pet world, We've started the chain with some of our beloved staff pets! We would love to see your black cats in the comments below ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿพ
