Unearthing the past, one fossil at a time - when construction meets prehistoric discovery! 🦕 A little secret from the foundation building days of Portland Vets Crawley, we found and excavated this "little" guy. He's now living quite a happy polished life up in the natural history museum in London after being transported from the building last year. 🦖

Happy Birthday Floss! One of our very happy regular ladies who comes in to see us for management of her arthritis. Last week she celebrated her fourteenth birthday with her family at home with this lovely homemade dog friendly cake.

❗️ Saturday Spotlight ❗️

Earlier this week, golden retriever Shelby was out on her morning run with her owner when he noticed some discomfort when she was walking. He discovered she had a barbed fishing hook stuck in her front leg hidden by the fur on her legs.

This was removed safely under sedation and stitched closed by Veterinary Surgeon Charlotte Green. Shelby recovered very well and was incredibly brave during her stay with us.

A reminder to always check over your dogs when coming in from walks this spring. 🌸🌼🌻🌷

Beautiful Bartleby and Polo enjoyed a mid consult climb during their annual examinations this year. Our consult one room is equip with a climbing frame for extra adventurous patients.

Pictured is the very sweet Ethel! Our patient care assistant Lottie's rescue cat. Ethel is an elderly lady who fell right into Lottie's arms one day and never left. Ethel spends her days relaxing at home, trying to eat Lottie's food and playing with her cockerpoo sister Bailey.

Congratulations Haggy 🐾🥰

6 months ago the handsome Haggy was diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of blood cancer that effects the lymphatic system. Haggy was a real soldier during his chemotherapy, always putting a smile on the teams face, eating a ridiculous amount of gravy bones per session, being extra patient and tolerating lots of pokes and prods.

We're so proud of Haggy and his owners for being so resilient over the last 6 months during his chemotherapy program. We celebrated with a last chemo photo with Registered Veterinary Nurses Emily and Sarah and Haggy celebrated by going home with a goody box to enjoy at home from the team at Horley.

This very handsome ginger boy is Simon, who came in for routine neutering last week. He was incredibly brave for his injection and procedure. He woke up ready for cuddles and a late breakfast and enjoyed a cuddle with the nursing team before heading home in the afternoon.

We wish him a quick recovery and lots of dreamies! 🐾

February is Neuter Awareness Month! Here are some benefits of neutering:

🐾Reduces overpopulation: Neutering helps control the number of unwanted pets.
🐾Health benefits: Neutering can reduce the risk of testicular cancer, prostate cancer, and other health problems.
🐾Longer lives: Spayed and neutered pets tend to live longer.
🐾Prevents females from coming into season, attracting unwanted male attention which can lead to pregnancy or false pregnancies.
🐾Avoids expensive vet bills - vet fees for problems during or after pregnancy and birth can be expensive. Offspring might need veterinary attention too.

Antibiotics are essential when treating many conditions in animals and people, but bacteria are becoming resistant to many antibiotics that we rely on in human and veterinary medicine. Our practice is taking part in the antibiotic amnesty this November. Clients can return any unused or out of date antibiotics to us for safe disposal. #AntibioticAmnesty #onehealth
