After over 40 years of dedicated service to the veterinary profession our vet David is setting his sights on a well-deserved retirement, spending time with his family and doing the all things he’s never had time to do.
David has looked after the animals and owners of Horncastle and beyond for many years since he first arrived in Lincolnshire as a mixed animal vet in 1981. In those days a typical working week would mean long days were followed by night duties and weekend cover. Callouts occurred 24 hours a day - often followed by racing across the countryside in all weathers, usually to a field, stable or cowshed in the middle of nowhere. These emergencies inevitably resulted in many missed prior arrangements and quite a few burnt dinners! Latterly things became a little more relaxed as he concentrated on small animal practice but no two days are the same in the veterinary world and, whatever the challenges, David has dedicated himself totally to the care and welfare of all his patients - great and small. David certainly took inspiration from the Herriot way of doing things and Sue fully embraced that sentiment by adapting to the role of a modern-day Mrs Herriot, managing the practice as well as heading the nursing team.
It’s not been an easy decision for David and Sue to relinquish their little practice. Their dream was to set up a small friendly surgery and to provide a good service based on ethical treatment and family values. The dream came to fruition when Vet on the Corner opened its doors on the evening of the Horncastle Christmas market in 2006.
Seventeen years later, and time to move on, David and Sue felt it was important to find a new vet carefully. They didn’t want their legacy to be bought out by a corporate or to be developed by a huge organisation. David will be handing over the reins to very caring and capable hands. Sandra will also be staying on to ensure you are greeted by a friendly and familiar face.
We know you will make the new owner very welcome and that your pets will continue to be looked after in a small, caring and friendly practice. There will be more information to come about the new team soon but we are sure you will join us in wishing David and Sue well as they spend the next couple of weeks preparing to hand over.
